Also, at 0:25, I am pretty certain that there has been a phonetic confusion. It just so happens hat "der Rhein" (the river Rhine) and "der Rain" (a baulk, meaning a strip of vegetation bordering a field) sound exactly the same in German. I can see where the confusion is coming from as "der Rain" is not at all a commonly used word, but "der Rhein" would make no sense as the Soviets never reached the river Rhine during WW2. Moreover, birches being pioneer trees commonly grow on the transitional zone between forests and the open landscape, so it would make perfect sense for them to be found at a "Rain".
