"Black Panther" actress Lupita Nyong'o and Melissa McCarthy from "Can You Ever Forgive Me?" discuss headlining movies on their own terms in Variety's Actors on Actors series. bit.ly/VarietySubscribe / variety / variety / variety
Bro Quietstorm Thank you for shutting that down so well. They work overtime to push their “beauty” standards on us. According to that wack ass poster, all white and Asian women have to be is slender to be attractive. Hmm, I don’t find that to be true.
Yes! I love both these women, and I hope they'll both continue to be trailblazers in an industry that's traditionally relegated them to secondary roles.
Lupita speaks so elegantly and soft. Melissa has such a beautiful spirit. These women are just a beautiful representation of women! I thoroughly enjoyed this!!!
It is true black and Brown is madly beautiful skin colour, people who says ptherwise are jealous and needs to hurt other people to feel better about themselves
Love Melissa, love Lupita, this is an amazing combination. They clearly have a respect for one another as actors and truly listen to one another and ask thoughtful questions. Melissa is the example of an ally in this moment, without being overly kissass or self serving.
@shurednichso the secret is in consistent work out, healthy diet and more importantly having melanin, Yes!! Black don't crack at all. Am proud of my black skin.
@shurednichso You should see Lupita's mom. She's just as young looking, slender and very beautiful personality. Its probably deeper than skin colour,or being Kenyan (Im kenyan too). Maybe its just self-acceptance and having a purpose. I saw a scottish girl the other day who said she was 28 and she doen't look a day older than 18.
Yea for a generation. But Whoopi had a massive voice from only seeing her as Celie, to the cop in fatal beauty. Jumping jack flash to..The view? None the less lupita is great and Melissa the both represent beauty and intellect and probably their own personal discriminations. Just brush it off your shoulders
no she didn't, there's been huge African actresses for generations now, you people love pretending there was Jim crow/apartheid last year and that you've only recently started getting recognition/representation, not the case at all
she's so gorgeous that I can't even believe she's a real person lol it's like she's a robot created by Revlon to make everyone else feel ugly haha; but more importantly, she's very intelligent and a wonderful humanitarian.
Some African women are attractive, when they're less masculine than others. Compared to Europe and Asia's women still far less attractive on average. Hyper-manly looking African women is a strange thing, why did they evolve that way?
It's surreal how I got goosebumps when Lupita Nyong'o was talking about the reception of "Black Panther". Still, almost 2 years later. It was a movement.
Lupita is seriously so beautiful, of course she's a talented and smart woman, but wow, her beauty stuns me every time I see her. And Melissa, I've always adored her, ever since Gilmore Girls.
I adore Lupita. She's just exquisite but my heart is full of love for the woman next to her. Melissa McCarthy you are an angel and i will always love you. Congratulations for all the praise and acclaim that is coming your way for this role. Cannot wait to watch it.
I absolutely adore Melissa McCarthy! I would watch anything with her in it. Although, I’m not sure that this latest movie is really my thing, but I will watch it because of her anyway. I love her comedic acting and that she doesn’t take herself too seriously. I have watched any interview of her’s that I have come across and I appreciate someone who can be self deprecating. I would LOVE to share a bottle or 2 of wine with her! 😀🖤
I love that the're discussing the roles order and chaos play in acting. Because in history the topics of order and chaos aka creation stories were the first stories ancient humans valued enough to write, teach, and display. They held the most value, gave birth to the hero journey story, so forth and so on. There's something very full circle and magical about watching two modern day storytellers basically expressing that those ideas/topics still heavily influence most storytellers at their core to this day. We are so distant to ancient civilizations yet in a lot respects we are exactly like them. Much love to all the storytellers throughout time.
This has gotta be one of my new favorites in this series. Both women are so incredibly talented and versatile as actors, and the respect they have for one another is so lovely to watch. Brilliant pairing, Variety!!
I've tried to watch other AoA before, because there were actors that I really liked, but I never seemed to be able to finish. This is the FIRST one where I felt like it didn't last long enough. Their conversation was so easy breezy, yet very insightful and meaningful, and I was nearing the end of the video before I even realized it. I love them both so much!
Unexpected combo so delighted to see it, beautiful conversation, love them both! One of the best ones I’ve seen, felt so real like they were hanging out without being filmed. Lupita’s question, “what is your relationship with control?” I literally contemplated that all day, something that could be a great conversation starter in so many instances. Loved everything about this!
This was lovely! I felt the genuine interest from both of them towards each other. It was like drinking wine with friends on a cozy evening. Something really safe, relevant, nuanced and uplifting. Thank you for sharing.
Enjoyed their conversation. Love #Melissa she is an amazing actress, she cracks me up every time on screen🤣🤣🤣. Love #Lupita, amazing actress and human not to mention fellow Kenyan. Both Queens💜💜.
This is such an interesting pairing. I clicked on this video so fast so I can watch. I love seeing how interested they were in each other’s careers. Beautiful interview from such beautiful ladies.
Lupita reminds me of my Kenyan friend at University; Annette. She loved roasted plantains and a cup of tea for breakfast :) Lupita is so graceful, confident and eloquent xx.
Ahhhhhh this is one of the better actors on actors. Truly well-paced, respectful and thought out. It honestly feels like they've known each other for more than this session and have been friends for years.
That’s why Robin Williams was so shocking when I saw his first serious/dramatic roles...he wasn’t known for that stuff, but boy, did he bring it! Also, Lupita continues to be one of the most beautiful humans on the face of the earth. ❤️❤️
Wasn't previously very familiar with these actors' work, but really enjoyed their humour, intelligence & cameraderie in this interview! (And can I just say, I was thrilled to see some AoA ladies wearing such sensible shoes! 😆 So many of the female actors appearing in these seem to feature in these enormous heels that truly make me wonder how they managed to navigate from taxicab to set without breaking an ankle...? Just endless amounts of red carpet practice I guess?? 🤪)
These two AMAZING women are so different and yet so beautifully understanding of each other and relatable to each other. i definetely didnt expect them to see them talk like this together. I LOVE THEM
I love these two women. Melissa McCarthy is one of the few actresses that are rays of sunshine for me. Even if she's doing a character that is a different role I still will always think she is a wonderful asset. I love Lupita because she's beautiful but she's so obviously smart but not in an intrusive way. She just let's her intelligence inhabit her being and I just simply love it.
Was just watching the one with Gal Gadot and thinking "No other woman could possibly be as beautiful as this one." - come here and the very first shot of Lupita has me glad to be proven wrong.
