Great example, for a novice, I just I’d like to add a few key points that were missing: 1) the sample has to be dry of solvents/water used in the recrystallisation 2) if the the sample has any crystalline properties, it needs to be ground into a uniform and homogenous amorphous solid 3) the capillaries should have between 2-5mm of sample for an accurate read 4) For a solid of known melting set tthe 20 C below expected melting point, and then for an accurate reading a temperature rise of 1 C/min is required.
