There feels something sinister about AACC versus screens. The contrast of the each character bright pupils against their darkened faces highlights the fact that they have an otherworldly side to them.
Type Lumina sure illuminated the versus screen. I think to me there should be darkening of the characters with their eyes bright like AACC and then complete view when showing both characters off. But man it is still a dope character versus screen, the music being the best one imo.
I miss the glowing eyes in the VS screen, but I do like the fact that all of the character's eyes are glowing in the superflash cut-ins for Heat and Moon Drive (another cool detail is that most of the characters' eyes glow their usual eye color, just shining, but Shiki's eyes glow silver like the original timeline's depiction of the MEoDP.) I do think that Re-Act's and Actress Again's are slightly better though. They're all awesome!
1st time I've seen ReACT & Act Cadenza's Vs screens. And I might be in the minority, but I really like ReACT's Vs screen. Maybe it's the jingle and the combination of the cut-in portraits fading into the character portraits that *really* sell it for me.
I agree! Never saw it before too, but the atmosphere from the short yet simple showcasing of the characters combined with the little tune gives off a vibe different from the rest. I feel like it's also due in part to how short it is, funnily enough, and how the tune really sticks out to me. (Not hearing it before, of course.)
I really like that the portraits are the characters normally but the cut ins are staring each other down, ready to fight. (E.g. shikis cut in doesnt have his glasses on)
Ciel in the originals games looks like She just or prepare to kill someone who got turned into a vampire New Ciel looks likes she going to be saying "in Jesus name" "God is Great"
Technically speaking Actress Again and Actress Again Current Code actually have different VS screens, the changes are pretty subtle but definitely there. The music still is the same though
The “stage” in the background when the game shows the full artwork of the respective fighters is noticeably different in Actress Again compared to Current Code.
I kinda wish type Lumina also had the movelist near the names, maybe when they pan over a character while in the "versus" part they have the moves to the side it would add some charm to it, I still love how it looks without it though
Only thing that bothers me about type luminas VS screen is that the character artwork is the same picture the whole time, while the others showed an alternative face when the moveset comes up. The simplicity and music in the act cadenza screen is so nostalgic for me though.
The -OG- ReACT one has the best music in my opinion, it's so badass. Otherwise I definitely prefer Act Cadenza and Actress Again. EDIT: I wonder why the TL footage runs at 30 fps while the others are actually in 60 fps tho.

I think I am the only one till now that likes ReAct more than the others. Maybe Nostalgia getting a number on me Edit: It's sad that 2002 don't get a true Vs. Screen
The older games had a darker, more mysterious tone to them. Sets the mood that these characters are about to throw down. Which is fitting considering the source material. Plus the cut ins and secondary poses are so good, especially with MBAACC's glowing eyes. New Melty has a cleaner look, but it is so bright and feels phoned in. Where's the intensity? The style? The atmosphere?
• I barely see the ReACT one, but now I find it too simple • Act Candeza VS screen music terrifies me for some reason • Actress Again has somehow scary music, but visually it's cool • Type Lumina screams HYPE! Happy-sounding, even!
The Japanese version of Type Lumina is a bit different as the character names are written in Japanese, the English names are still visible right below “PLAYER 1/PLAYER 2/CPU” however (albeit a lot smaller).
Damn I prefer the the older versus screens because it reminds me of what game I'm playing. What was the last game? I dunno because it doesn't say it in the versus screen!
Lumina is the weakest ngl (no gibberish, no moves, only 1 frame of the characters and too glowing) fitting for the game without nero chaos and zep HUMPH!!
