Country Steak and Gravy!! A delicious entrée that will fill up your hungry crowd! It’s easier than you think!!! #memesrecipes #shineforjesus #gravy #steakrecipes Original film date: 3/14/22
I've cooked my entire life for thousands of people as I've been catering on a large scale for 35 years, plus I've cooked for meals on wheels and head start programs just as long. I'm truly a food critic, but I love the way you cook. You're really helping the younger generation 😋
It’s so good to still hear that good old southern down home country accent from a southern young lady..!..and can’t wait to cook this dish..!..GOD BLESS..!
This steak looks so delicious, I’m a new subscriber because I love the old school cooking, bless your heart , these young cooks could learn a lot from you
I agree. While I’m nit a “young” ANYTHING (haha), i didn’t appreciate the likes of my mother, aunts, grandmothers cooking when they were alive and i WAS a young cook. It was a hassle to me then, so i think people sharing how to recipes…ESPECIALLY southern cuisine, if it aint broke type of recipes…its absolutely FANTASTIC.
Watching you makes me want to start cooking again.I just gave up last year I had covid 3 times ,shingles 3 times.I lost my husband of 22 years to Covid.Thank you also for lifting my spirit.
Oh my goodness, I feel for you, you have really been through a hard time the last year. I hope you are feeling better and are seeing light at the end of the tunnel.
I made this for dinner last night. Since I'm a Texan, I had to tell my wife it's not quite chicken fried steak but let's give it a chance. Oh my goodness. It was delicious. She kept going back for 'just one more spoon of gravy." Next up is chicken and dressing with cranberry sauce.

New follower from Louisiana!!! ~ MeMe….this looks SO delicious!! I’m 70 and have been cooking my whole life nearly….it never occurred to me to put this in the oven to finish cooking it!!! From now on….this is how I’ll be cooking country steak and gravy from now on!!! Thank you!!! ☺️
It's in the oven right now 🤤 I had some gravy leftover & I couldn't help myself & took 3 spoonfuls like it was soup 😂 it was delicious! I had to put 3 small steaks separately with no onions or gravy because my daughter won't eat it then 🤦♀️ I'm serving it over jasmin rice & fresh green beans. Thanks Ms Diane! I can already tell this is a keeper!!
I made this delicious country steak and gravy for dinner last night, it was amazing! I served it over the brown rice and my husband went crazy over it. The brown rice is amazing on its own, but covered with this delicious steak and gravy was like a little heaven in your mouth. My husband didn't waste any time putting the leftovers in one of his Pyrex dishes that fit in his electric lunchbox. Thank you Miss Diane for sharing your amazing recipes with us! Please keep the videos coming, I can't wait for the next one! God Bless You and Your Beautiful Family! SHINE FOR JESUS!
I had a grandma MeMe too! Spelled the same way. She was raised on a farm in Missouri and cooked exactly like you! Wonderful memories, and now you're showing me how to bring them back.
I add mushrooms, onions and a bit of beef stock with mine. I serve it over mash potatoes because that’s the way my mama taught me. I’m a new subscriber here, and I love how much you remind me of my precious mother❤️
I am a new follower! When i was living abroad ( born and raised in the Midwest) i had the hardest time explaining to people the dishes - on what “classic American food” and what dishes I really missed. I am definitely going to get her cook book! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and tips with this millennial!
I love chicken fried steak with cream gravy, but this smothered steak baked in the oven would sure be great to feed a larger crowd. I cannot wait to try this. I keep that chicken and beef base you get at Sam’s too. It is great to enhance the flavors of various soups, stews, etc. Thanks for sharing your recipes.
@@memesrecipesschi do you enjoy venison? I make this often for family, but use venison as I like to deer hunt. This looks delicious and makes me hungry for some.
Hi! Oh. My. Word! I made this tonight! It was beyond delicious! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful recipe. I didn't use water for the gravy, I changed it to beef broth. Anything I've ever cooked that involved water, I've always tried a more flavorful alternative. My daughter called it phenomenonal. I served it with my special mashed potatoes and some peas. Thank you Ms MeMe! God Bless!!
This reminds me of my Grandma. She used to fry round steak just like that, only difference was she made cream gravy usually with mash potatoes, black eyed peas, macaroni and cheese, fried squash, and biscuits. Love these videos.
I love to watch you cook. My grandmother raised me and these meals you share is what she called rib sticker food. I am a mother of 4 with 9 grandkids and 12 great grandbabies. I cook like you and everyone loves it.
Love this, Thank You! I’ve been cooking for about 55 years and am considered to be a great cook by family and friends. I learned several things from your talk and video and I’m so appreciative of what I’ve learned and will use next time I make cube steak. I’ll go online and buy your cookbook too so that I can learn more. Thank you!
Especially during the summer l like to brown mine like MeMe,then put the steaks in the crockpot with the gravy,so the oven doesnt heat up the kitchen,it comes out so tender it easily cuts with a fork.
I made this last night using deer steaks and Kentucky kernel seasoned flour, I also added mushrooms. All I can say is Oh my goodness! It was one of the best dinners we've had in a while, along with some baked potatoes and brussel sprouts. Thank you for making this video.
To me it don't make sense to buy meat at Publix it is no different than the meat that you get at Walmart and I pulled it several times on other people who swear only by Publix Publix is overpriced it's a nice store to shop at but highly overpriced stick with the Walmart brand you really can't go wrong
Thank you so much! This was much easier than I thought it would be, and so delicious. It's just like my grandma used to make. This is a new favorite in my home.
I just put this together and then in the crock pot for today’s Sunday dinner 😊 it’s 91 degrees right now in Virginia so I didn’t want the central air competing with the oven 🥵 but I think it’ll be just as good! Thank you for the recipe!
Hello from the Mtns of Western NC !! Meme my husband and I love to watch you . We made this for dinner after we watched your video. It was delicious and so tender! We love you. You are a bright light in this dark world !! ❤
Hi Meme, I just wanted to let you know of a different thing I tried. I also love Julia Child’s cooking so I am well versed with making her sauces and gravies. I used your techniques in everything except the gravy by making Julia’s Borginon gravy using Red Wine. I still used flour and the grease as you do but instead of pouring water I poured about half a bottle of a cheap dry red wine and deglaze the pan while declumping the flour, next I alternated with liquid beef stalk (and I do also use the beef paste but I premix with water in the microwave). I added salt and pepper to taste in addition to about 1 tsp of ground thyme. I added a can of drained mushrooms to the gravy and mixed it all together then poured over the cube steaks as you did and baked the same exact way. AMAZING combination of Southern cooking with French flavors. I hope you try it out some time.
I'm sure I would love it however it was made. But when you started talking wine and mushrooms I was even more hooked! Right around the corner is fall and cooler weather, and that's when I enjoy cooking most. I'm really looking forward to this.
Your recipes are so easy to follow and I feel like I’m beside my grandma and she’s showing me how to cook something. It’s so much fun to watch. I find myself chuckling a lot and smiling too. Thank you for your sweet spirit. It has made my day.
This is my family's favorite. The funny thing is that I didn't grow up with it. My mom just fried the cube steak. She couldn't make gravy if her life depended on it. My husband was the one who taught me how to make it. His mother made it and he learned from her. Our kids love it. Lol our daughter would get a little bowl and drink the gravy. I'm enjoying your channel
I love watching your down home recipe videos. Im 55 and i taught myself how to cook! Down home style recipes are my favorites and The Best! My poor husband has been eating tough cubed steaks for 38 yrs ! Lol NOW Ican make them CORRECTLY! THANK YOU! ♡
Hi i just made this. Its in the oven. I chopped top sirloin steaks with a sharp heavy knife to tenderize and added some canned brown gravy to the homemade gravy. My husband loved the pork chop casserole and I think he will love this. Thank you, Meme!
What a game changer of baking this!!! I have always fried the steak and then simmered it in the gravy, but today I tried it in the oven per your recipe. Absolutely delicious!! And oh so tender! Thank you!! I have your first 2 cookbooks and have pre-ordered the third.
She reminds me so much of my Granny who I called Me Me growing up! Southern charm! And all the wonderful receipes! So glad I found this Me Me On you tube!
I love your method of frying the cube steak and putting it in the oven!! I fry mine the same way as you do put after I fry I put the steaks in the crockpot pour the gravy over the top and cook on high 4-6 hours it turns out amazing but if it’s to long it might end up to soft. And we eat it with both either rice or mashed buttered potatoes!! Thank you Meme for another great easy inspirational recipe!!! Love you god bless!!! Diane Helen 🙏❤️
Thank you for sharing!! Look's tasty, I've never made this not in my 40 yrs of cooking, I have no idea why??? We had this when I was growing up as a Child, Now I think it's time to make it for my Husband ❤ How wonderful cooking for you daughter I sure they're going to gobble it all up!! . God Bless You And Your Family Stay Safe Elle ❤
OMG, I almost licked the screen it looks so good😂. My grandmother and mother would take a small plate and 'pound' the flour lightly into both sides of the steak before frying. The breading stayed on!
Hello there beautiful Me Me. It is always so good to see you. Your recipes are so yummy and delicious 😋. My mouth waters everytime I see you cook. Thank you so very much for sharing and for everything you do. May the good Lord always bless you and keep you safe and healthy where ever you go.
Why is your daughter camera shy? She’s beautiful! This dish looks so delicious! I’m going to try it your way. When I make it, I use cream of mushroom soup for the gravy, and it’s delicious. I just received a notification from you that my cookbook has been shipped! Can’t wait to receive it! I so enjoy all of your videos. ❤️
Midwestgirl, I have yet to see where to order the cookbook. I keeping checking the information box on the videos, but have never seen a link or order information. How does one order a cookbook?
I lived in Texas in the 70s for a few years. They called this chicken fried steak back then and it was delicious too. I can’t wait to try yours. Thanks so much for making cooking fun!
I just found your channel. My ex-husbands grandmother and mother were both southern cooks. Thank u so much for bringing back such sweet memories for me
This steak looks so good! I like steak and gravy very much and my recipe is good but I think yours looks better and more tender. Giving this a try soon! Thanks Me Me for this great recipe!!
My Mamaw used make this mostly requested by me😊 was just one of my many favorites I miss her and her cooking so much. Meme you make all of the old school classics my family loves thank you ❤️
Ms. MeMe, you are a national treasure! I love hearing your accent (Yankee here) as it brings back frond memories of our time stationed in the South. God's richest blessings to you and your family!
MeMe, thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I tried it tonight, and it was so good. I love watching your videos and can’t wait to try more of your recipes. You are a national treasure! I hope more of your cookbooks are in stock soon.

How I wish we would have done this with my Grandma Holman years ago! She was an amazing woman and amazing cook! Watching MeMe warms my heart and takes me back to her farm…
Great recipe. Thanks for posting it. Mine are in the oven this minute. I have to say though that rice is not just a Southern thing. I grew up eating rice very often and as a child, never made it farther south than Delaware. Neither did my mom for her entire life and she cooked it often. :-) Rice is in my kitchen right now, ready for this yummy gravy.
Cube steak is one of my favorites! I love the way you cooked it I will be trying this and the rice recipe! Thanks for sharing ❤from Mimi’s Country Cooking
This southern household loves mashed taters with our Salisbury Steak n Gravy. I’ve never cooked it in the oven, always cooked it on the stovetop and that is time consuming because you do have to cook if low and slow. I am definitely going to try it this way next time! Thanks for sharing all of your wonderful recipes with us. I am going to purchase 4 copies of your cookbook as Christmas gifts (well, 3 gifts and one for me!) for my daughter and 2 nieces.
