Can’t say it enough, LOVE that y’all actually* watch the movie instead of looking for moments to yap endlessly like so many other channels do. One of the best reaction channels imo can’t wait to see more from the both of you. 👏🏽
Totally unique film i had to watch twice to even get a grasp on it, i do like the early Christopher Nolan films he did THE PRESTIGE in 2005 with an equally mind bending tenure and brilliant cast is one of his best " Are You Watching Closely "
Yes, I can imagine... It's a huge undertaking. Also, imagine editing this one for our reaction video, you know, trying to tell the story in about half the time, listening to every line and considering every second of footage to determine if it is absolutely necessary in order to convey the whole story. It was very difficult. Thanks for watching! (:
Nolan’s first film (The Following is a zero budget college film), if you can believe it. I can still remember coming out of the cinema when I saw it, back in 2000, mind blown. Still one of the best films I’ve ever seen.
You guys did VERY well keeping up with the plot and whatnot. Brilliant film, how it puts you in the exact mindset of Lenny by playing the film backwards in individual scenes. Makes you feel like you have no short-term memory, huh? . . . always trying to remember what you just saw.
Yess! what a great movie and reaction. This movie is so inspiring for fillmakers, it shows that you only need a good script and a group of talented friends to make a movie. BTW congratulations to Jessica! Regards from south america.
Thank you, Lucas. We appreciate it. Here's a compilation video from our "world premiere" in Los Angeles (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TRzEMD58mMA.htmlsi=080qGcZ5R8_atc3t). (:
@@BossMovieReactions I forgot to say, great call predicting that Leonard is Sammy, very observant of you. I'm interested to see what you'll spot when you watch The Prestige. Can't wait.
The ending made me consider this a favorite move, and, years later, it’s still fantastic. I continue to notice new things. Everyone is using Leonard, most notably… Leonard. I love some of Nolan’s earlier films, which is part of why his “later” ones disappointed me. If I hadn’t seen this and The Prestige (heck, even the Dark Knight trilogy) first, I probably would have liked his other stuff fine lol.
Yes, this really IS a fascinating movie. I also liked "The Prestige" and "Interstellar" (We have reacted to both of them), but I still have to check out some of his other movies. I don't know if "Tenet" is any good, but it has been recommended a few times. Thanks for watching! (:
This is the movie that made me a HUGE fan of Nolan. I was 16yrs old when this movie came out. I remember watching it with my mom and dad. Im also a big fan of Joe Pantoliano. He was in 2 seasons of The Sopranos. After this movie i started watching then buying Nolans movies. I own all of his films. I have the special edition DVD and blu ray where you can watch it in chronological order.
Thats an excellent film. Another early Nolan film you and your girl would like is Insomnia. Its a Nolan film with Al Pacino, Robin Williams and Hillary Shwank. In came out in 2002, i think. I really believe you guys will like it. Especially your girl, i just have a gut feeling lol.
Love your channel! You guys are one of my favorite reaction channels. You seem like real, genuine people, and I enjoy watching your emotional responses to the movies. With that said, you NEED to check out more Nolan. All of his movies have intellectual twists and uniqueness to them. I recommend the following: 1. Inception 2. The Prestige 3. Insomnia 4. The Batman Trilogy The first 2 are absolute MUST SEES!
Awesome, thanks for your kind words. Yes, these movies are on our list. I actually worked as an extra in one of Nolan's Batman movie, the one with Tom Hardy, I think it was "The Dark Knight Rises" or something. Anyway, thanks for watching! (:
There's a small film that has a greater emotional impact because of a scrambled scene order. The scenario is completely realistic and there's nothing truly surprising about how one thing leads to another. Because the final events (chronologically speaking) can be seen retrospectively as in some respects inevitable given the characters and the instigating actions that set the story in motion, the emotional experience created by great actors performing in well-written scenes is richer than if we watched a relationship begin with hope and then gradually turn into a realistic nightmare. Check out "The Eye of God" [1997] by Tim Blake Nelson and starring Martha Plimpton, Hal Holbrook, Nick Stahl, Margo Martindale, Richard Jenkins, and the [perfect] Kevin Anderson.
Just one note as you were talking about film with more unique storytelling. There is one avantgard Czechoslovakian movie from 1960s with the title "Happy Ending" which is shot completely in reverse and with the narrative and dialogues in a normal way (actually the actors had to learn their lines backwards so then the film runs backwards the actors talk in normal ways. When you see it you realize that what you see backwards would have particular meaning if played normally, the dialogues and the commentary give it completely different meaning. :)
You got it very well compared to a lot of other reactions. I think the tattoos in the end are an imagination from him. It‘s his memory being unreliable.
Thanks for that. Yeah, it was quite challenging to keep up with the plot. And yes, I think you're right about the tattoo. I elaborate on everything a bit more in my "Afterthoughts" video. (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OryI29w2A_g.htmlsi=B3xdka5b7JMFmnX2)
That's his way of getting revenge on people who have wronged him. He understands that by writing it down that way he will get revenge for Teddy taking advantage of him.
The thing I can't figure out is that he remembers the Sammy story, including her testing him with her shots. He didn't need to have notes on the details. Then at the end we find out it was actually his wife testing his memory condition. So if that was true, and it was him giving his wife shots etc. that would have been after his head injury and memory loss. So he shouldn't remember the story and would need detailed notes on it, not just "remember Sammy" tattoo as a reminder. Anyway, great reaction.
Hi Neal, thanks for sharing your thoughts. You're raising some good questions. Here's how I would answer them: Lenny doesn't remember the Sammy story correctly (even though it was BEFORE his injury), his mind is mixing everything up. The truth about Sammy is that he was a fraud, but that's not what Lenny remembers. Lenny's mind mixes his own story of giving his own wife the shots and makes it Sammy's story to "cope" because the truth would be too hurtful. Also, Lenny's injury didn't affect his long-term memory, he just couldn't build NEW memories. --- I'm not sure if that helps to explain, but maybe also check out my Memento "Afterthoughts" video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OryI29w2A_g.htmlsi=hKrPQBM4Qvl-n5PC. --- Thanks for watching!
@@BossMovieReactions Thanks for the reply! I am going through some other of your reactions, and subscribed. I will circle back and watch the afterthought video after that. The thing is though, Leonard (he hates being called Lenny) shouldn't have any memory of a wife dying from the OD test, unless it actually was Sammy's wife before the attack. If it was Leonard's wife it happened after his brain injury and he would not have a memory of it to scramble and confuse, or lie to himself about... unless he is faking or it in entirely mental illness like he thought is was with Sammy.
@@nealm6764 Hi Neal. Yeah, again, you're making some good points. I would say that it was definitely not Sammy's wife who died, but Leonard's wife, and yes, it happened after his injury. I think the only way we can explain it is to accept that Leonard's brain is so screwed up that it refuses to build new memories and even invents and distorts old memories to "protect" Leonard from the truth. - Anyway, a mind-boggling movie for sure. Thanks for subscribing!! (:
*Bing!* Watching your delightful reaction a stupid thought hit me... Groundhog Day is a _perfect_ double feature with this, as they're the same movie but completely reversed (🤔🤗). And they're linked due to _brilliant_ character actor Stephen Tobolowsky (Sammy here) being in both. Wheels within wheels...bing.
YES, that's a funny observation!! And yes, I noticed Tobolowsy, I saw him once at LA Fitness! Thanks for watching. Also, I watched half of that Hulu show you recommended. Very interesting stuff... Will watch the rest soon... (:
I feel the at the end (middle?) we don't know whether or not Teddy is telling the truth. While it is true Leonard is an unreliable narrator and he may not remember things correctly, especially given the theme of conditioning throughout, we also know for a fact that we can't trust what Teddy says either. The entire point in the way the film was edited was to put us in Leonard's shoes and make us feel confused and I don't think the ending is any different. Personally, I lean towards the fact that Teddy was lying at the end because it seems more logical that Leonard would remember whether or not his wife was diabetic. However, conditioning is also mentioned throughout, so perhaps he really did condition himself to believing his wife wasn't actually diabetic and Teddy really is being honest. All of that is irrelevant though because the point of the end is that Leonard doesn't know what really happened for sure and neither do we.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. You might enjoy my "Afterthoughts" video as well where I address some of the questions you're raising! --> (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OryI29w2A_g.htmlsi=uDbN4GfQ-JSl7ci4)
Thank you for the shout out and your reactions. BTW Lone Bear is my Cherokee name, Cherokee names are feelings and don't translate well. The name does not mean that I'm alone, it means the feeling a person would get if they were walking alone in a forest at night and realized that a bear was tracking them. lol
Haha, well, maybe I should have said "simply" instead of "simple"... It was, of course, a reference to the "simple" name not to a "simple" person, but I know you know that. lol. Thanks for watching! (:
To be fair, I think you even left enough of a pause but I had heard it the other way by then. If you haven’t seen Tropic Thunder, there’s a reference or two hidden in our interaction. In the interest of spoilers I’ll say no more for now. Tropic Thunder seems to be a bit of a reactor’s must-see movie, which in turn becomes a must-see reaction for us…
Teddy is ALSO a John G, but he is not the original one! I elaborate on that quite a bit in my "Afterthoughts" video. You might enjoy it. Thanks for watching! (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OryI29w2A_g.htmlsi=eE-WuM4F6Lh2k2qu). (:
