Capers grow all over Malta, and love the dry humid weather. They grow in crevices, on walls, and rocky cliffs. The bud we eat, produces an amazing flower, which in turn keeps giving, as it produces the berry, which is also edible.
Pickling these little delights is easy, and rewarding. If you don't have a caper bush where you live, I give an alternative in the vid!

Thank you for this. A caper bush started growing in my garden this year and it's already producing capers. I was torn between letting the flowers open up or removing them for pickling as there aren't many yet (it's still a very small bush). Now I think I'll pick them off and leave two or three to flower. Didn't know the leaves are edible too. Grasshoppers definitely like the leaves - I'm lucky they didn't pick them all off.

Hi, great video. I am making my own caper video at the moment and came across yours. I live in Turkey and have a tip for you. Put your capers after washing in a plastic bottle. They release gasses. Every day after opening the bottle to refresh the water you will find less pressure. After about for days it will stop and you will be ready for your next step. Hope this helps you in the future. Sad you have to go far from home for it.

That's a great tip! Thanks! I will try that next time! I don't have to go far from home actually. I have caper bushes right outside my door! LOL Thanks for watching my video, and again, thanks for the tip!

Hello, I am slowly catching up with your videos. I recently purchased some Caper seeds and am looking forward to having some plants growing in the yard to remind me of Malta and of-course preserving my own Kappar.

That awesome Charlie. Thanks for taking the time to watch them. Caper bushes are funny. They love to grow out of cracks, and be dry, and not bothered. I tried buying a plants twice, and they both died. I give up. LOL Luckily I have several large bushes growing just outside my back door by the sea. GOOD LUCK with it! Try and plant them in an open dry area, maybe in a rock garden, or if you have a wall outside with holes in in (like a stone wall or fence), hopefully they will thrive. Thanks for watching!

Thank you Goran. I'm a New Yorker and don't have a garden nor any caper bushes around but I'm sure I could find some fresh ones in a market to give the recipe a go.
