Thanks for the education. I have enough trouble remembering the number to 911. But, the brain is a muscle..... Confidence, like memory isn't something you just have but instead something you can develop, usually.
I think as long as the memory palace is not reuse, the memory will still there even in a month or so. It will become more vague in time maybe, but it's there.
You'd be amazed how long the images stay in there, I mean it is weird people doing weird actions with weird objects. It can be multiple days after and I still remember the exact order.
As a kid in the '60s my dad went to Dale Carnegie... they taught a system for remembering the first 13 colonies, in order of joining the union... I remember something about George Washington with his finger up in the air... there was a cut on the finger (Connecticut), there was a giant bloc of ice (Mass), Mary Martin was skating on it (Maryland)... somewhere there was the Titanic? No, ocean liners, with one pointing North and one pointing South (N and S Carolina). It's been 55 years, I still remember pieces of it from when I was eight.
I have images associated with the 50 US states, but I've repeated them so many times that remembering the images is much slower than just repeating the pattern I've gone over so many times. I think I learned them when I was very young, in elementary school, and even if I lost the ability to instantly recall the states, I'll still be able to come up with all of them. It was called a "peg system" and was very similar to this system and basically uses the same number and letter combinations. I'm excited about building some new memory palaces - but first I want to learn those colonies 😆
There was a whole book I read as kid that had the capitals and states, just simple stuff like "connect a cut." I still remember quite a few of them randomly at times, lol.
Gotta say man. I've been watching your vids religiously and I'm hooked. I never knew there was such a big cardistry world out there. Literally ordered some cards last week and have been practicing different cuts and flourishes and I'm loving it. Thanks for the inspiration to learn something new, my dude.
I've recently learned how to solve a Rubik's cube blindfolded which just like this, sounds very hard, but with a couple hours of practice anyone can do it!
Just starting to get back into memory training since I have so much free time this year. I started years ago with Harry Lorayne's book, 'Super Memory Super Student. Even after years of not using the link system, I STILL remembered most of the words for the numbers! It really does work well! I've easily memorized Pi up to a hundred digits. The peg and the graph system is even more fun since you can use them to memorize so many different things like maps, graphs, the periodic table of elements, etc... Just now (as of today after watching your video) I am starting with cards. So excited to do this!
I'm so happy you made this video. My hobby is solving rubiks cubes blindfolded and I'm definetly gonna try the pao system. Right now I have a system where each sticker has its own letter, and I cycle through the letter pairs and for each pair I imagine a distinctive word...it gets hard sometimes because I don't have the exact word for each letter pair that could appear. Can't wait to apply this to blindsolving! Cheers.
I took this further by making a PAAO system with the second A an adjective for each card. That way I can memorise 4 cards for each scene. I have also numbered each card as Ace - King spades = 1-13, then hearts, clubs and finally kind of diamonds is 52. Then I just use the numbers from my version of the Major system to come up with the PAAOs. For example, 10 of hearts translates as 23 so I use a P, A, A and O with B and C separated by vowels. That way I can use the system to memorise numbers as well, like pi. And now I hold the UK record for reciting the most digits of pi while juggling, which I’d love you to feature on your channel, Chris.
Sorry, I forgot to mention that I code numbers as letters in the following way: 1R, 2B, 3C, 4D, 5P, 6F, 7G, 8H, 9N, and 0S. So 23 to me is BC which is Bill Clinton (person) broadcasting (action) from a baltic (adjective) bicycle (object). The 8 of diamonds doubles as number 47 in my system so that would be DG: David Guetta digging for digital drugs. I have a PAAO for every two digit number. And I use 01 to 52 for cards. You'll notice I don't use vowels for any of the numbers because I use them between the consonants to make the words because vowels are so common so it would be very difficult to use them as the key letters. I published a book called Slice of Pi which explains by whole system and shows you my memory palaces, etc. It's on Amazon if you'd like a copy.
This is so cool. I’m on my 3rd Day and in 21 minutes I have got 49/52. I know I can do this, I have changed my PAO quite a few times (even categories) and now that it has solidified things should get easier. I have downloaded an app that lets you practice as well, all suits, one suit etc. I didn’t use it for this but it can also help you build your list which is the most important part. Find things that roll off your routine. Picasso Painting a Picture etc. Something I thought seemed impossible is in reach.
Came up with a system for the 12 face cards and was able to memorize them on my first try, only had to look at them for one minute on my second try, this is an amazing trick!
This is great man, I searched memorizing a deck of cards and I was ecstatic when I saw your channel did a video on it. Quality stuff and impressive memorization by Nelson Dellis, definately checking out his channel. Love how you guys broke everything down.
Thank you for this. I'd tried before with just people (no actions or objects) and it was harder. Also, I tried to relate the numbers to letters, A-A 2=B, 3=C etc. It's hard to think of names beginning with I, J and even F that fir the categories and I never did nail tags for all the cards. I think these tips may well help me complete, although my 52 room mind palace was the one thing I did nail. Only need 17 or 18 now so will try a different one.
these tricks really work, I once listened to a Darren Brown audio book, where he teaches something like this but to remember lists. After about 7 years I can still recall the list. Telephone, Sausage, Monkey, Butler, Buttons, Book, Cabbage, Glass, Party, Champagne, Mouse, Pregnant, Xmas Tree, Ferry, Cardboard
Gonna show this to my class when I teach memory. There's loads of memory vids, but you're a fav. RU-vidr, so I think they'll enjoy this and your channel. :)
"I'm Chris Ramsay and I just want to be a better magician by perfecting my memory to expand my bag of tricks derrrrrr" That's you. That's what you sound like...... ........... ....and we love it. 😅😂🤣 I really hope you read down here. I love watching these and think this is such a powerful tool for magicians and I can't thank you enough for introducing this idea to us. You really are amazing, dude. Much love.
On my current deck, James Bond (spy=9S) is Burying (Dig=7D) a Deer-Sock (Deer 4D, Sock 7S) in Coal (5S). He's also having conversations with Sting (KS) the person from the previous 5-cluster, and Deb(7D) the person from the next 5-cluster.
I love these vids! I am really excited to get into this, but I currently don't have a deck of cards with me! Would you recommend writing down the PAOs that we assign to the cards to try and memorize or refer back to if needed?
VERY much easier said than done! I hope you and Nelson have some more video's coming because these are very useful & entertaining!! & here you go for what I have for my cards - (Qof♤)Alyssa(girlfriend), (Jof♡) howling, (Kof♧) at layman. Very silly but memorable. Just to be able to remember multiple sets of these is where it gets SO tricky! Happy friday Chris!
Saw this video yesterday and just recited my first full 52 card deck today. Awesome technique. Crazy how solid the info stays in there once you encode it all.
Hold up... I was starting to create my own deck and took your advice to make some of them explicit....but then realized that I also took your advice at making the Hearts my family, including my parents. I don't want to imagine those combinations coming up! How do you account for that??
Interesting video! I have a question; is there a way to keep track of poker hands? For example, keeping track of every card played in 7-card stud? I am learning Harry Lorayne's program but it does not lend itself to tracking poker hands. Thanks
I've known about memory palace for a few years now, but i never practiced enough to where i can reliably use it. Its quite a lot of work upfront (making up the images for all the cards/2 digit numbers) and i just kinda suck at breaking it down and sitting down to do it. Also PAO system is quite advanced as well and i dont know that many people xD
CHRIS! I'm really wanting to getting into both slight of hand and "card stock?" Where your doing crazy stuff with cards in general, but I'm lost of what type of cards I should get! Any ideas?
Very very old technique but very very accurate this has been tight I am old and I remember this technique as a child when I was in high school but it works it definitely works the great thing about it is you can apply it to anything I found it very helpful in high school and when I was getting my doctorate all the way through all those years .
Funny enough, I actually got recommended his Morse code video a couple months ago so I’ve heard of him but didn’t look into the channel cuz I clicked to another recommendation. Glad I can find and subscribe!
Probs won't see this but, this is the first time I've actually ever considered buying a book.. don't own one.. this is a really cool thing I never knew I wanted to learn. Will be a really cool party trick to learn! You've got a sub and like from me.
I noticed a deck has 52 cards which divided by three leaves remainder one. Thats why you had the most difficulty with the last card since you don't have a novel image for the last card.
Good stuff Chris!!! This really works!!! I know because I'm shot and I am remembering things now lol. This is quite remarkable. Thanks guys for taking the time to delve into this a bit more, I have been surprising myself repeatedly, wow!!
Ive bought two books, last year my teenage daughter and myself taught us the rubiks cube, she is about 60 s , im 2 mins, but still amazing. looking forward to the cards.
Awsome!! I have a question though. Can you use this system to remember the position of a card, like "the 15th card is the 4 of clubs"? Because if there are three cards in every position, you would have to do some math right?
I'm doing 5-clusters. Person-action-adjective-object-place. Once I've memorized and called out the deck in order (which takes a LOT longer than I would like) I can give the position of any random card in a second.
Would It be good Idea to right It down for the start? I guess you could remember It easier If you have Not the fear to completely forget the Image because of Buffer overflow
Mnemonica is different, cause you remember every cards individual position and not a sequence ( here you only know what card comes next) and if I asked you which card is the 23rd card you wouldn't have the answer instantly
@@djfoskbfikw5373 it's way different actually. It took me way longer to learn mnemonica perfectly than learning follow up stacks like this. As Chris says it's easier done than said. Try it out. It's different types of memory thats why you learn them at different rates.
Adam Prystupiuk not true, with PAO you know the position of the card as well. If you ask me what is the 23rd card, I know instantly it’s the 2nd card on the 8th object in my memory palace. I literally memorized Mnemonica in 5 minutes.
PLEASE react to Derren Brown!!! He does a lot of magic tricks as well as actual psychological tricks. I think he might just blow your mind. But any tidbit that you could possibly reveal how he does it would be like gold to me.
