One perspective I think you may have glossed over (since you asked), is how it benefits fashion houses for fashion to move closer and closer to full on androgyny. They would no-longer need a men's-line and a women's-line, this would impact staff cost (usually the men's and women's lines have different fashion directors and different staff) and production cost since you'd only need, let's say, 24 pieces of clothing instead of 48 pieces of clothing for a season. Great video, I don't keep up with fashion as much anymore and didn't notice the trend.

i think eventually all designers realize that designing for the feminine form or in that language is more exciting. and interesting. i swear if you watch different mens designers that start with menswear, somewhere in their evolution they become fascinated by womenswear

Hello, I'm a complete fashion noob but quiet passionate about electronic music especially techno. I see a quiet strong uprise in popularity of techno in the last years. I strongly believe one of the factors is that it's fashion style is very appealing to many. E.g. you can find lots of content which is about "rave outfits" rather than the music itself. It's style was heavily influenced by this whole BDSM-cosmos and therefore also features lots of "sexy" aspects. The community is also very open towards LGBTQ where traditional roles are questioned anyways, opening style towards the opposite gender. Of course it could rather be a symptom of an underlying social process than the cause of anything.

femininity expressed through clothing in men has been used to identify as gay, hence the general reluctance to adopt more feminine styles. I think that dynamic weights more than society deeming women < men

You made some super interesting points, always love your videos! In my opinion I feel like the feminization and sometimes infantilization of men on the runway has been overplayed over the past few years and whilst I feel that fashion is a super useful medium to explore gender roles and the concept of gender, I am much more of a fan of the use of androgyny when it comes to my personal fashion preferences, to me, the expression of androgyny through fashion says 'I wont let my gender or societal ideas and norms pertaining to gender define me'. I feel like men adopting womens looks or vice versa is too explicit in its disregarding of gender roles etc. whilst androgyny is more subtle

My opinion no one asked for: I think it is really REALLY lame how many people/designers nowadays are just so boring and uninspired. They are trying so hard with the whole putting men in womens clothing, for example skirts or dresses. They’re even cheered to the high heavens for it. I think it is lame, overdone and not playful at all. There is nothing brave about wearing womens clothes like that. It is like playing dress-up as a child. What we need more is exploring the boundaries of men and women. How far can you go down one side and still keep that masculinity/femininity. It is important to keep it playful but not stray so far away from the essential masculine and feminine traits/energy.

Hello Christian once again, awesome video. I agree that the gen Zs of today are more accepting of womenswear styles, given the increasing tolerance of the LGBTQ community. An interesting point to note is that perhaps the rise in popularity of CDG mainline (and its androgynous styles) might have also contributed to this acceptance amongst the young today. By the way, I think you made a mistake at 0:10, where you say Fall Winter 2013 instead of 2023. By the way by the way, I see you included Mister Beast's explosion at the end of the video, haha.

I think liberated might be a more apt term over slutty. Many aspects of the past underground have been normalised and aren't that big of a deal anymore, leaving more people feeling free to adopt. We're definitely seeing a more exhibitionist and sexualized kind of wave as "progressives" and queer culture is moving to the forefront. In the club/rave scenes that I frequent it goes hand in hand with the hedonism and its easier to navigate with body positivity being a thing now.

I'm not afraid of wearing a skirt or showing more skin. I'm afraid of looking weak and effeminate. Maybe if modern designers want to get common men to wear them they should try to bring back kilts

not a great camera angle today. I like your editing though. I think this is a really interesting topic that you've perhaps barely scratched the surface of. I've felt for a long time that womenswear as it stands, or as a genre currently has more creative potential, though it also can be overwhelming piles of garbage and compulsive overconsumption. From film theory I think there's this gender criticism that the male looks and the woman is seen... the idea of the male gaze I think comes from that discourse. the Implication is that it doesn't matter what he looks like so much. Maybe some men would like to feel sexier than seems currently possible idk

mens fashion has been seen as androgynous since the 20s thanks to the feminist movements, when will womenswear also be seen as androgynous? It would be cool if gendered clothing was completely abolished (but they would still need to make things to fit certain body types ofc)
