Thank you so much for this pattern! I have been searching for a decent men's hat pattern for some time and it seems like I've found it at last! 👏🏻👏🏻. Blessed with fussy men in my family from husband down through sons and grandsons, I all but gave up knitting or crocheting hats for them- until now .... stand back and be amazed boys, you are about to be anointed with all those beautiful skeins of manly colours of yarns collected up over the years 🤗

Thank you SOOOO MUCH for making this pattern free & even including a video tutorial!!! Dream come true! I’ve been looking for this style of crochet beanie for a long time & hard to find a free pattern I like. I wear lots of beanies and only been crocheting seriously for 2 months so this makes things much easier for me (dabbled for awhile though). I even get to use my favorite Furls hook to work it up! Can’t wait to finish it! I’ll probably end up making several 🥳🤩😱

I really liked this pattern, but I got SO confused with the measurements and the crochet hook size. I just HAD to do some in-depth research on this. I hope this helps clarify some others who feels the same way as I did, without having to search through all of the useful comments below. Like how many others pointed out in the comments, the end-result length becoming EXTREMELY long, with her in the video mentioning "6mm crochet hook", having 56 chains (or 66 chains to fold the end; the word "brim", to me, is a visor-like part, so I won't use that word) -- all did not quite make sense to me. She also mentions the beanie to have approximately 21-inches circumference, which means the width of the beanie we see there is like 10.5 inches, which looks slightly shorter than the length (from top to rim), which looks kind of like 11.5-12 inches.. I searched for that specific yarn she used. It's a number 4 medium worsted yarn of "knitting Gauge: 20 sts in Stockinette Stitch = 4 inches (10 cm) with a 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needle". In the video she says she used a 6mm-crochet hook. However, there was no way her gauge will look like that with a 6mm crochet hook. Thus, I believe she misspoke having used a U.S.G-6(4mm; Boye brand 4.25mm). And then she googled 6mm crochet hook, and it (of course) gave her the J-10 for the U.S. size, so she just wrote that in the description.. But if it were actually a U.S.G-6 crochet hook, 56-66sts will make around 11-13 inches, which then sounds right for a length of a beanie. I just hoped she corrected it in the video description later, when there are so many comments mentioning about that.. Also, I think it would have been more clear if she measured both the width and length of the finalized beanie. And I didn't really understand why she mentioned "to stop crocheting once it reaches about 18 inches", when in the beginning she mentioned the circumference to be around 21 inches.. I started using a #5 bulky Premier Puzzle yarn (Gauge: 15sx20r = 4in/10cm on size US10/6mm knitting needles-- just because I had that yarn, it was actually a yarn for a 6mm hook, and it is machine wash/dry-able. I tried crocheting with a 5.75mm hook, wanting a more tightly crocheted feel. But then it didn't feel right anyway, I got all frustrated with the measurements, so I stopped after having crocheted for like 5 inches (I have already adjusted the vertical length to be around 9.5 inches) and undid the whole crocheted fabric. I decided to calculate and measure how long that beanie in the video may actually be, got the better measurements, and started writing this comment..! So, eventually I am using a 5.75mm crochet hook for the Premier Puzzle (#5 bulky) yarn, made the loop with 12 chains (hoping the length of the loop shouldn't be too different..), made 39 chains and a 2-chain-post in the beginning that makes a 12inch-long chain to start with (I wanted the beanie to have fold). I am now way more optimistic that it will make a good beanie. Anyway, thanks for sharing this video -- although it gave me a massive headache for the past 3 days. LOL

@jessiel9754 3 года назад
@@xlena60 I actually ended up with a very cool looking beanie with a 2-inch fold. It felt a bit crowded when I was trying to sew the top part together, but so much better than without that ring on the top. It comfortably covers (snug and fit but not tight) from the forehead-ear(measurement was done by passing the earhole, and the beanie covers the whole ear until the earlobe)-backneck (1inch below where skull ends) which had a circumference measurement of 25.5 inches. (I have intended it to be worn like that). FYI the circumference measurement of the head normally done for hats and caps (from forehead to the most convex part of the back of head) was 22 inches. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for publishing this pattern and the video. This is a great structure, very different than the usual circle ones and quite knit like. I used a Tunisian crochet that makes it easier to crochet into the slip stitches that can be hard to grab sometimes. They request winter hats every fall. I'm going to do this one, but instead of the ch12 at the beginning, I'm going to use the magic circle method demonstrated in later videos. I think that will make the top easier to close. Thanks for the pattern!😇

Thank goodness I read the comments. Thanks Jessie! I love the look of the hat but mine was getting too long as well with a 6 mm hook. However my major issue is working anything with black wool ( my hubby’s choice of colour) and so many rows of slip stitches. I admit I gave up. It is a great pattern, just not for me. If you give it a go, check Jessie’s comment down here for the correct hook and gauge and DON’T use black!

I'm using worsted weight cotton yarn with H/8 5.00mm hook, and it is coming out great. Just count your stitches. I noticed when using the loop at the top, there is a slight twist while working that creates an illusion of an uneven bottom. I did it by eye at first and tried to even out the bottom every row, which ended up with 10 more stitches because I didn't count my stitches. Lol. After following instructions and counting this time, it came out great! Using this pattern more often. Thank you.

I tried following different videos for a beanie and they confused the life out of me. You honestly did a really good job explaining each step which made it super easy to follow! All that’s left is to get on making one in the morning

You are a life saver! I was making a beanie for my dad when I realised that the way I was doing it would for sure make me run out of yarn. I was upset because I put effort into it. I wanted to fasten it off in case I needed it for anything. I went browsing on RU-vid, finding the same tutorial over and over again until I found yours! I’m halfway through and it looks amazing. Thank you so much 😊😊❤❤

This is a beautiful pattern to stitch. The hard part is when you're using a different yarn, and trying to determine the guage!!!

Thank you for sharing! Do you have to skip two stitches at the end of every row opposite the chain end?

After three weeks of on-again, off-again crocheting, this hat is complete. Even though it is complete, it is not the way I wanted it to look like at all. I tried to get the same style as shown here and I have failed. I am going to try again, and this time I try to cut the flip of the hat off and try with multi-color yarn.

@@malikastone I just finished my first beanie last night on a circle loom! I did a knit three/purl two pattern and it turned out better than I expected. This version is next on my list. I’m hooked, thanks again for making this.

I Had to quit at row 4 when I struggled to get my size 10/J hook into the slip stitch for a single crochet using my "lightweight yarn". I appreciate Jessie's suggestions and the pattern looks beautiful. I may attempt this at a later date, but my head is telling me to quit for now.

I have a super hard time with slip stitches and try to avoid patterns that use it. But I’m gonna try this. I think the key is to make the slip stitch loosely
