I turned 50 this year and have had some much trouble with brain fog, some depression and a whole lot of anxiety. My md put me on Antidepressants and recommended that I see a therapist. Then I have my mom say well depression runs in our family. You don’t turn 50 and suddenly just have depression and anxiety. My Dr is on the younger said and obviously is not listening to me. I’ve told her that it’s menopause. I then went to my obgyn and asked her what I could do for menopause, and she told me.. all women go through it. 😮 That’s it! I’ve worked in healthcare for 24 yrs “non clinical” and am disgusted on how I’ve been dismissed. I don’t think the antidepressants are right for me, but don’t want to cold Turkey stop taking them. I’ve also gained 30 lbs in 1 year w/ no diet changed.

Seeing two of “Houston’s” powerhouse women together…no words! I’ve just started listening to hour after hour of Dr. Mary Claire Haver interviews trying to soak it all up - but this one hit differently. Felt like two friends having a conversation and educating the masses while doing it. So awesome that we are finally starting to talk about this and stop the suffering!!

I’m 64 and I have been on BHRT for 9 years. Changed the quality of my life in so many ways. I go to a doctor who also quit her OB/GYN practice to focus solely on hormone issues and menopausal health. I have had a couple of GP doctors who scoffed at my use of hormones and told me to just take antidepressants. I promptly left and found someone more supportive. It makes me sad to know how many women were negatively impacted by that faulty WHO study .

I thought the entire episode was a fantastic update. TG my doctors prescribed HRT for me 14 years ago in my early menopause. It came with lots of warnings but just like Dr. Haver said, I was one of those insistent women who was willing to trade quality of life for the threat of risk! Now I know that I made the right choice as it has protected me rather than threatened me. You can see how findings evolve as we know more~ I knew that if my hot flashes and insomnia were severe, there was no immediate life. I just started testosterone cream too and look forward to the benefits! More episodes on menopause are most welcome. Thank you, Dominique!

Just curious, did you have blood tests for hormone levels or saliva testing or urine testing? I did the blood testing a few years ago, but found that saliva testing or urine testing is more accurate. 🌞

I wish if there would be more doctors like her💕 I haven’t been able to find help since I had complete hysterectomy in 2019. There are only few days in months when I feel ok. Terrible sleep, anxiety, don’t have any desire to do anything. Getting through with the help of red wine. Didn’t think that it can be that bad. Have always been happy person. Thank you for this inspiring video.

Still watching the video but must say, the first half-hour = PURE GOLD! Emphasis on food as medicine; focus on universally inflammatory foods (which doesn't include dairy); re-thinking the health benefits of wine; importance of dietary protein. I'm already seeing where I need to make changes. Thank you, Dominique and Dr. Haver! 😊🙏 ❤❤

Dr Haver has said that's great - but there are hidden effects of estrogen such as its effect on heart health (AHA put out an important paper this year), brain health, and bone health. So, HRT may still be a good idea for a long and healthy life.
@lindajones4849
@lindajones4849 3 месяца назад
Yes, you are lucky and sincerely i offer congratulations. However, there are symptoms of menopause that may surprise you or can develope silently. One silent problem is osteoporosis and i suggest getting a baseline dexa scan. Also be aware that heart disease can develope silently. Joint and muscle pain can be caused by lack of estrogen and so can insomnia . Alot of women dont realize that you nsomnia and joint/ muscle pain can be caused by menopause. Good luck

This information is so important !!! I have been chasing answers for unexplained major weight gain and feeling lousy and crazy for over 3 years. My dr gave me diet pills, but they didn't work and I kept insisting something else was wrong. I was told the pills take longer because I was already a healthy eater and I should just move my body more. Long short. I had my own blood work done and discovered too little Thyroid, too much Testosterone, and Menopause, now all of a sudden I'm not so crazy !!! I was so frustrated not being heard and honestly thought I was crazy. In the meantime, I purchased the Galveston Diet and things are starting to come together, slower than I'd like but at least the scale is moving. We need more people like you Dominique and Dr Harver to bring menopause and over 50 women's health issues to the forefront. Thank you for addressing this !!

I just want to thank you Dominique for all your menopause related content. I'm 36 and have been terrified of menopause my whole life, because my mother's started at 40 (when I was 3) and it gave her extreme anxiety and depression (like _extreme_ - we didn't leave the house when I was little). That, plus as a woman who is not and will not be raising a family, I don't want to lose my "youth" (which is a VERY flexible term) yet at 40 - I still want to go on adventures and dates even when menopause hits. And you arming me with knowledge has really soothed my anxiety around the topic. Thank you.

At 58 and a half and 1 and a half years post menopausal. I could not lose weight with my usual routine of working out regularly. Not an ounce. Sleep was horrible and hot flashes were super annoying. I quit drinking alcohol 8 months ago, and all refined sugar, dairy and flour (especially wheat) and coffee 6 weeks ago. I also started following the bean protocol (Karen Hurd, Unique Hammond). and have added working out with a rebounder daily for the last 2 weeks, using a strength routine with it 3 times/week that I created. I am amazed. By quitting the sugar, flour and processed junk foods (chips, crackers, etc) and eating mostly beans, animal protein, nuts, seeds and veg with some fresh fruits, and occasional gluten free oats, I am dropping weight for the first time in at least 8 years, my blood sugar is so stable, I have zero cravings at all for sugar or flour, like at all, I'm sleeping better, hot flashes are gone. My appetite is so chill, I only want breakfast and dinner, so I naturally skip lunch. I've been a sugar addict my whole life since childhood. This is truly a miracle. If I could pick just one thing that made the biggest difference, it's quitting the sugar, flour and processed snack foods. And alcohol. I know 100% the secret to stay youthful, fit and slim in menopause. It's about controlling blood sugar and excess hormones (bean protocol). No question about it. A miracle.

As always this was incredibly helpful, informative and could be life changing for a lot of women. Having lived in Galveston for 10 years and know a lot of people that know Mary Claire and rave about her as a person and doctor. I follow her on all socials and tell my friends to follow her. These conversations are so important and hopefully will change the life of someone that is listening that needs/wants help through peri-menopause, menopause & post menopause. I'm almost 63 and haven't been on HRT for probably 8-10 years and that is going to change - it is time for me to talk to my OB/GYN and get back on the patch. Thank you once again.....excellent podcast!

I appreciate this so much! I'm 49 and recently saw my doctor for my annual physical and was giving him almost the entire list of "symptoms" to which you were speaking. I told him I understand I am nowhere near being overweight, but the 10 pounds I gained and have not been able to lose was frustrating and I just didn't feel good; as in I know at what general weight at which I feel healthy and good and while 10 pounds might not be much to most people, it has made an incredible impact on me. And nothing has changed in my daily routine. He ordered so many labs and when they all came back normal, he told me he would submit a referral to see a therapist. 😒I was so upset that was his response; like I was being so "silly and trivial" about what I have been experiencing. Just a side note, this is the first time in all the years I have had him as my PCM that I felt dismissed; I really do love him as my doctor! Thank you so much for this! ❤

Absolutely wonderful podcast and such an incredibly authentic, candid, and intelligent guest ! Dr Haver has put everything in perspective. I was in tears when she said that the loss of her brother and the rapid and extreme menopausal onslaught occurred simultaneously as the same thing happened this past year with me when my mother passed. Grief does so much mentally and physiologically to the body. I believe it was a catalyst for extreme perimenopausal symptoms/ menopausal onset. My weight went up, belly fat emerged, acne, poor sleep, etc came on with ferocity. I look forward to purchasing Dr Haver’s book for her guidance in navigating my health and allowing me the ability to advocate with my practitioners for my optimal health. Please bring Dr Haver back again, Dominique🌹

Wonderful video! We women have to support one another and regain our mental, emotional and physical strength back! Thank you so much for asking all the great questions. Loved the magnesium segment and then HRT. Saw female MD in my late 40s ( 2017) for peri menopause symptoms. She wanted to put me on anti depressants. I was so disappointed and discouraged by her. Now 53 and have done my research ( Dr Barbie Taylor, Dr. Mindy Pelz, Dr. Cabecca, Dr. Hirsch, etc. ) I still have a period once every 6 months and finally got on compounded pill form, low dose estrogen/progesterone and testosterone cream. ( Maternal GM had breast Cancer). What a difference!! No more migraines, hot flashes, irritability, cholesterol went down 100 points! Still working on inflammation ;Joint pain when I wake up. This subject is eye opening as a 61 year old that was classed as WW wingy woman at my drs i now know my symptoms were and still are menopause, i can remember begging my Dr to send to a mental hospital for help because he kept saying my symptoms were depression, im now told im to old for hormone treatment so the sleepless night's hot flahes anxiety weight gain ect ect has obviously got to continue until i die!! How sad and unfair is that for us women in our 60s. I wish you could get a guest that could advise woman over 60 what they can do to help them through this terrible time. Im in the uk and all the advise i see like your podcast seams to be in from the states. Thank you for giving us this information x

I have found Traditional Chinese Medicine to be very helpful, including tonic herbal formulations. There are western herbs, too. I'd see an acupuncturist or naturopath.

I wish I could give this video 1,000 thumbs up!! I'm 49 and have been post-menopause for about 2 years, I'm on HRT (it was a must for multiple reasons) and the 5 years prior to me being considered "post-meno" were BRUTAL. I still have some issues with brain fog insecurities, and weight gain (40+ lbs), and I still have hot flashes (not as severe nor as often but I still have them 3-4 times a day). I know I need to make nutritional changes, I'm working on creating better movement habits and it is still an ongoing battle of my mind vs my body. I realized recently some of my unhealthy habits were created because I was trying to deal with the sadness I've felt from my body "turning against me" and not being able to control what was happening. Panic attacks, anxiety, sleepless nights, sweating some nights for over an hour from a hot flash ....I've had it all. I hope to get Dr. Mary's book and see what fits for me and what can I tweak to help move me forward to a healthy post-meno lifestyle. Thank you for all that you share, create, etc. ❤

Love when intelligent women are talking 💓 my favorite podcast so far, practical, clear information. I'm 51 and so far my coping mechanism with menopause are birth control pills (can be prescribed in Canada till age 55) and for weight loss the the only diet that is working for me the last few years is Bernstein diet for a month or two per year. Feeling great and keeping pounds off so far with this set up. Now I'm intrigued and will try the Galveston diet. And thanks to you and Dr. Haver I'm now armed with knowledge what type of HRT to ask for, when the time comes to switch from birth control to HRT. Dominique, you are such a pro-life motivator and I'm eternally grateful to you for that.

Amazing video. One thing that I've learned and I'm not quite sure if this is true but when I tore the Traverse City State Hospital in Michigan our tour guide told us that women were put into an insane asylums because they did not know what was happening to them. They thought that they were crazy. Later they realized that they were going through menopause. I cannot even imagine how scary that must have been for these women.

Love this video, thank you. I am 52, I have been on a whole plant based diet for 5 months now I thought I ate healthy before but plant based means no calorie counting, full of nutrient dense foods I strongly agree food is medicine and fasting. Just wished people didn’t think I was some alien for doing it. Love all your content Dominique. Xx

The Galveston diet is ultimately a high fat, low carb diet. It resembles the standard keto diet in its macronutrient distribution, as most daily calories come from fat. An average American diet comprises about 35% calories from fat, 16% from protein, and 47% calories from carbs In comparison, the Galveston diet advocates getting about 70% of your daily calories from fats, 20% from protein, and 10% from carbs. The idea behind this shift is to get most of your calories from fat instead of carbs, or what the diet refers to as “Fuel Refocus.” In general, carbs are your body’s preferred energy source. Yet, under low carb conditions like fasting or low carb diets, your body breaks down fat for energy. Evidence suggests high fat keto diets are more effective for weight loss than low fat diets among some people However, the Galveston diet differs from the traditional keto diet because it incorporates several other components. The result is a very low carb diet consumed within an 8-hour eating window that includes significant amounts of anti-inflammatory foods.

Wonderful podcast! 😊Question for Dr. Haver: Back in 2005 my mother started going through menopause at age 55 and she was put on HRT.(I don’t know the name of it, I wished I had asked her 😢) and six months later was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and died in 2010. Now, I’m age 50 and in menopause since age 47 and I’m scared to death to go on any type of hormone therapy. I hear about breast cancer but not so much about ovarian cancer with HRT. Can you please enlighten me about ovarian cancer and HRT therapy? Thanks so much for all that you do! 😊

I am 62 years old, got menopause at 48, didn't know anything about hormone therapy. Is it too late to do this treatment? My hair is getting thinner, and on the border for bone density. Have been under healthy diet and excercised regularly for the past 20 years or so. Thank you so much to both of you.

I saw someone comment below about addressing pelvic floor issues - I would love for you to have a pelvic floor physical therapist, and a Uro-gynecologist who can help women with prolapses! There's help out there - it's not normal to urinate on yourself and just resort to wearing pads!
