Have you ever removed just the alternator pulley without removing the whole alternator?

it will be difficult to go that path, if you want to remove just the pully you'll have to clamp the rotor to a vice in order to prevent the pully from rotating. with the alternator in the car it will rotate. so the only option here is to take out the alternator... .... my opinion based on my experience
