► The battery is an essential part of your Mercedes W205 maintenance cycle. It is responsible for providing the power needed to get your car running. When your battery starts to fail, you may experience longer than normal crank times in hot and cold weather, see error messages on the dash related to certain convenience features, or your eco start-stop may cease functioning.
Whatever the case may be, if you are experiencing any of these symptoms or have purchased a used vehicle and don't know the history of the battery, this video will show you how to get the job done. It’s crazy because I went to an auto shop and they told me they have to keep some type of electricity flowing threw my Mercedes to change the battery and without it, my car would have to be reprogrammed coasting thousands of dollars and they didn’t have that tool they claimed. That just mean they didn’t know what they were doing. 🤦🏾‍♂️ Thank you for this video

Great video! One thing I did pick up on was in the beginning you mentioned the replacement was a group 49R. At the end of the video you referred to it as a group 94R. I looked at the battery leaving the box and its visible that it is a group 94R

FCP Euro, thanks for putting out valuable content like this. Please comment on: 1) The need and the tool to update the front SAM with that fact that battery was changed. Factory service manual seems to require it. 2) Your suggested approach to preserve memory settings such as radio stations, clock, etc.

Great video! I had errors on my W204 C250 cluster and as you have mentioned some functions were not operational. Replaced with AGM 668 battery but errors still appears. What could have gone wrong or is it a start/stop battery in the trunk?

Odyssey makes a fantastic battery. I have one in my Benz and it has lasted 10 years so far. Make sure it is always completely charged. Keep it on a trickle charger (noco genius is good) if you store your car over the winter.

I want to thank you for taking the time to make this video. I was able to order the Odyssey battery and auxiliary battery from FCP. Replacement was easy with your video. Just curious if there is some kind of reset on battery? Shortly after replacement the yellow battery warning comes off and on randomly.

Thanks for the share. I went to Advanced Auto Parts today and bought a battery for my 2017 C 300. They however would not install it for reasons explained earlier in your video. I replaced it after watching this video and didn't have to reset anything. Very well-made video. Good job and thanks!

In the mercedes fatory manual they instruct to measure positive terminal that it has the voltage after disconnecting. And it should take some time to voltage to go down. Manual said that if voltage drops instantly there might be some fault on the system. So this also means, that after disconnecting the battery, you need to be extra careful not to short the positive terminal to anywhere ground. There wasn't really downsides with letting the system drain after taking battery out.

Is it a good idea to hook up battery terminals to a power pack whilst changing the battery to make sure there is a continuous loop of power thus saving any reset problems ? My battery needs cha going on. 20111 C300 and I’m terrified of reset issues . Help please?

I’m almost curtain these require a BMS reset to reset the voltage going too the battery. Also mentioning that you put in a 48AGM and put in a 94rAGM.

I bought a battery from Mercedes for my 2016 Mercedes C300, and they said if I replace it myself I have to bring it back so they can reset the computer so the car can identify the new battery and if I don’t the battery will only last about a year. They said it would cost $90 to do this. Is this true or are they trying to get more money out of me?

I am really confused. Just had my S205 in the service today and I told the guys that I have problem with my 1 1/2 years old VARTA AGM battery (leaving engine running message). I drive about 1x each week. Voltage is between 12.0 and 12.6. Now they told me that they initialized the battery (I just replaced the battery and bypassed it, was only unpowered for a few seconds). Some say you have to initialize it, some say you don't have to. Also I found out that the CTEK charger told me after 3 1/2 hours that the battery is fully charged - before the engine had trouble to start (tested twice, took a bit longer and I missed the strong noise) and the "leaving engine running" message also appeared. So the battery "should" be empty. But the charger can only charge it with about 17,5 Ah and the battery has 70 Ah. CTEK told me that Mercedes is known for charging problems, means... you should connect the charger directly to the battery and not to the jump start ports. Still have to test this.

Thanks for the video, the error disappeared once I changed the Voltage Converter Module, but on the screen the ECO light does not show up anymore and it does not start/stop even though the switch for ECO in the center console is on and lit green. Does it need some kind of hard reset. Thanks again

@@Jedi2155 the problem was not soved . I tried eveything from buying an original module to buying a fake one to buying several scanners and all these did not resolve the issue. The only thing was that came from this was that the error message disappeared !!

Hi and thanks for the video, I replace the battery on my 2015 w205 however after replacement I have Charge battery error on the cluster when the car is running and Battery not charhed error in red when the car is turned off. If you put power to the jump start lug before removing the terminals, you keep the computer memory and radio presets.

Hi Grey, some models have aux batteries that can save those settings, but usually they do reset and will require you to set them up after the main battery has been replaced.

To keep the memory you should connect a 12v battery to neg and positive. Then the roof and windows would never lose the memory.

You can certainly use a tender, just be sure it is compatible with the AGM-type battery you decide to run.

No but on any 2016+ mercedes the hour counter for the main battery does have to be reset to zero.

@@simonbussey7530 the vehicle will cause damage to the new battery by overcharging it, which can shorten its lifespan at best. Though this shouldn't happen with a mercedes, overcharging can cause the battery to explode. For vehicles that did so, only the late model years will have the appropriate coding in the front SAM to reset the counter, earlier model years will not have the option to do so.
