REPAIR KIT FITS THE FOLLOWING VEHICLES: apaindustries.com/parts/10616
A common failure inherent to intake manifold 272 140 2401 found in Mercedes-Benz M272 V6 & M273 V8 engines is breakage of the actuating mechanisms on the intake swirl flap system. These flaps are designed to create intake flow turbulence improving low speed engine performance, enhancing fuel economy, and reducing emissions. A failure in this system will be detrimental to engine performance including symptoms such as, poor idle, loss of power, check engine light with the code P2004, P2005, or P2006, amongst others, and failed emissions testing. In addition, if not repaired quickly it could result in damage to other costly emission control system components.
The central pivot lever is operated by a computer controlled vacuum actuator, which in turn operates the swirl flaps. As the intake manifold experiences carbon buildup, the flaps on the inside have to work harder and harder to open and close. This, in addition to being exposed to high under-hood temperatures, makes the plastic brittle and causes the weakest points of the system to fail.
Extensive testing and analysis by the URO Parts team has determined the most prevalent failures in this system are breakage of the plastic central pivot actuating lever and failure of the plastic vacuum actuator, due to either breakage of the plastic pull rod that operates the central pivot lever or from a rupturing of the internal operating diaphragm.
The plastic material used in the construction of intake manifold 272 140 2401 is the main source of the problem. Over time this less robust plastic material cannot withstand the constant heat cycles and mechanical stresses, therefore embrittling and weakening the material leading to inevitable failure. The URO Premium Intake Manifold Repair Kit 272 140 2401R-PRM is the only solution which solves all of these issues during your first and only repair.
At URO we wanted to make a replacement part that could withstand the heat, operate effortlessly, and be as light as possible. We turned to high-strength aluminum. The URO Premium kit provides a more robust swirl flap pivot lever featuring a permanent co-molded self lubricating Delrin center pivot bushing and left and right receiver cups for the swirl actuating levers. The new URO Premium actuator has been redesigned with a metal pull rod to withstand the engine heat, plus its stroke has been altered to eliminate the mechanical stresses of constantly bottoming out on the manifold stops. In addition, it is fitted with a long life high-temperature silicone diaphragm for added strength. Included in the kit is also a new pivot bolt made out of stainless steel to replace the original one should any damage occur from removal. The URO Premium intake manifold repair kit is not just a suitable replacement for when the part fails, but rather a redesigned part that fits flawlessly with the Mercedes-Benz image of excellence in engineering.
To install the URO Premium Intake Manifold kit typically requires removing the manifold from the car. Follow the standard shop procedures to remove the manifold.
Remove the original central plastic vacuum actuator by carefully prying off the push nut, unsnapping the actuating rod with a flat bladed tool from the central pivot lever, and carefully disconnecting the single vacuum line.
Next, use the flat bladed tool to remove the left and right metal flap connecting levers from the central pivot lever.
The pivot lever is now accessible to remove the central bolt using a T30 Torx bit. We provide a new pivot bolt as these tend to strip easily upon removal.
Install the URO Premium aluminum central pivot lever using the newly provided pivot bolt noting the correct orientation. It is recommended that a small amount of silicone grease be put on the bearing shoulder of the central pivot bolt and blue medium strength thread locker be put on the mounting threads. Tighten the central pivot bolt to 7 to 8 foot pounds.
Put a small amount of silicone grease onto the ball studs of the right and left connecting levers and snap them into place on the central pivot lever.
Install the new URO Premium vacuum actuator onto the locating guides and push on the newly provided push nuts. Reconnect the vacuum hose to the upper canister body.
Next lightly grease the central pivot lever ball stud and snap the actuator rod onto the central pivot lever ball stud.
The newly repaired and upgraded manifold is now ready for reinstallation into the car. Make sure all fault codes are cleared upon completion.
The intake manifold needs to be inspected to ensure no excessive carbon deposits are present on the intake swirl flaps themselves. This could lead to binding and inconsistent operation even after the repairs and enhancements are completed. A simple cleaning with common intake aerosol cleaners is recommended anytime the manifold is serviced.

Thanks, now I finally know what that odd vacuum-actuator thing in my engine does, it's a tumble flap actuator! (I don't have a Mercedes but a N/A petrol Audi.) Anyway, I had never even heard of tumble flaps, until recently, even did some research on the part but could not find the exact reason it's there (the tumble flaps) until I accidentally read some wikipedia article about it recently and then I came to this video to get visual confirmation, because it looks exactly like this part. Great!

@Uroparts
@Uroparts 4 года назад
Hi Daniel, unfortunately our kit does not fit the 2007 C220. It's intended for the intake manifold 272 140 2401, which is found on M272 or M273 V6 engines. To answer your question, many engines suffer from oil vapor buildup in the intake, which can negatively affect the performance of butterfly valves. Performance enthusiasts sometimes add a custom oil trap between the PCV and the intake to reduce buildup.

I like the product. But I found impossible to snap the central pivot on bolt joint with silicone grease. The metal pieces look like bent inside instead of snap over the bolt joint. Not sure what to do now... It's very last step and seem to be impossible to snap it on. Why uro didn't use same rubber housing as with other two ball joints? Any recommendations? Im worry that that protection metal lock or how you call it is damaged now..
@Uroparts
@Uroparts 3 года назад
Hi Lukáš, the URO kit uses the same type of metal clip as the original Mercedes part. The sides of clip must flex outward to fit the clip over the ball, so if you squeeze the sides of the socket with pliers or other tool when trying to snap the socket into place, it can prevent the clip from flexing outward and result in bent tabs. Try bending the little tabs back into their original position. It might be easiest to fine-tune the tab angle if you pop the clip off the socket, so it's easier to bend the tabs from the side with needle-nose pliers. After the clip angle is corrected, you could use a small flathead screw driver to lift one (or both) sides of the clip to expand it and make it easier to snap the socket onto the ball. Please contact us using the contact forum on our website if you need any additional assistance, thanks!

Uro parts. The problem with my 2008 Dodge sprinter is when I press on my pedal. My van pulls away from a stop sign really "slow". By the time I'm 25 feet out it starts to run normally. It's just really slow at the take off. I've actually been parked on a hill facing up. When I stepped on the pedal it would not pull itself up the hill. I just kept screwing with it until finally I got it to move. It runs really well one I get it to move. It hasn't done the strang up hill from a stop thing in a while. The pulling away from a stop sign really slow happens all the time. Any ideas? I'll get the codes its putting out tomorrow morning (Monday)

Come back out from the post office start me van & the check engine light has gone off. I drive it over to my shop ( about 4 miles away) it is running perfectly fine. I've been driving it for most of the morning and the check engine light has not come back on? Now that is not uncommon for my van. Last Oct. I went to get it smogged to register it. The light had been on for atleast 10 months. It went out the day before I took it in to the smog place. Past with flying co. This is a 2008 and this has been going on since I purchased it. Well it really started about 4 years after I purchased it. I've also had 3 computer refreshes done. Had to have them o get it licensed. When I purchased my sprinter I was getting 21 miles to the gallon. First flash down to 18. Second flash down to 13. Third flash now I'm at about 8.5 miles per gallon. I just love our government. How can it be better on the envirement getting this bad of fuel mileage? I would think getting the 21 mpg would be better??

What do you think the problem might be? 🙄
@Uroparts
@Uroparts 4 месяца назад
Hi Simeon, the central pivot lever is operated by a computer controlled vacuum actuator, which in turn operates the swirl flaps. As the intake manifold experiences carbon buildup, the flaps on the inside have to work harder and harder to open and close. This, in addition to being exposed to high under-hood temperatures, makes the plastic brittle and causes the weakest points of the system to fail. During installation of URO Parts Repair Kit 272 140 2401 R-PRM, the intake manifold needs to be inspected to ensure no excessive carbon deposits are present on the intake swirl flaps themselves. This could lead to binding and inconsistent operation even after the repairs and enhancements are completed. A simple cleaning with common intake aerosol cleaners is recommended. Hope that helps!

Even if you replace the old lever with a new robust one,you'll still have the carbon build up in the intake that creates drag on the flaps. The real fix is to replace the complete intake with an upgraded one. Unfortunately the intake is a part that should be replaced at least every 4-5 years for optimal performance.
@Uroparts

@Promos321
@Promos321 3 года назад
@URO Parts The video starts explaining that the cause is due to carbon buildup making it harder to move the Flaps until they get practically stuck. Then the plastic breaks. So I'm not understanding how replacing the failed part will solve the problem. It will work a bit, but struggle to do so and still perform poorly. The video also makes no mention of removing the manifold to perform this task, but at then finishes off with completing the job by installing the manifold back onto the engine. And so, shouldn't this kit also include all required parts to make it simple?

"the cause is due to carbon build up making it harder to move the Flaps until they get practically stuck. Then the plastic breaks. " How do I get rid of the carbon? Since this seem to be what could be the most likely cause.
@Promos321
@Promos321 2 года назад
@@helmhurst I think a lot of it also has to do with the fact that the plastics dry up over time, and become brittle. So much that cars will not be able to get to 15 yrs without parts breaking. Some, pretty significant.. ... it's a good thing these don´t have most things actuated by diaphragms and vacuum lines like its predecessor. This will get it going but, even if there is little build-up, note that the internal flaps are also plastic and will also become brittle.

Why do they say German engineering is the best I had 3 Mercedes and all were junk the airmatic suspension failed sbc failed intake lever broke esp bas just was a complete hell and money pit...I switch to Lexus so has my wife has Honda accord and we have not had one failure ride is smooth no limp mode just such a relief now we can use our paycheck for our family other than giving it to Mercedes

the only thing germany mechanic forget to learn is how to make a reliable car

Maybe cuz you neglected the cars. If you don’t have the money to repair or knowledge to fix your car then don’t bother buying a german vehicle. Stick to your Japanese junk.

Pre year 2000 mercs are built up last, lots of steel but after that, too many plastic parts

Excuse my French but why in the FUCK would you make plastic moving engine parts?

Very common in modern engines, probably for two main reasons: to lower cost, and to reduce weight to help meet ever-higher government fuel economy standards.

@2:24 if it was truly an imagine of excellence in engineering, Mercedes Benz would not have manufactured Engines that fail & enter limp mode due to a single cheap plastic brittle part in a high temperature intake manifold system. its flawed engineering at its finest.

from personal experience i know because i owned 3 mercedes in my life and this video is very true the abs plastic peice will break and audi a8 use a simular system on all the mercedes i owned the air matic system failed so did the transfer case on the e500 and the conductor plate on the s500..mercedes is pure shit people like to own one because they feel its a status symbol but they are really over engineering a peice of shit car over priced useing cheap parts whats the point of having a complex motor if the heart of the failure of the entire system depends on a peice of plastic??? they are fucking dummies and myself as well as my family or associates will never buy a mercedes agian
