Good idea, as previously said, would be the “manual” electric antenna button on that hole. Sounds fair solution + gives functionality when the radio is not in use, just Bluetooth.
I think i probably will go with the antenna switch if i can find one including socket for a reasonable price. Some people are asking stupid money for them on eBay. If i had the blanking plate for an alarm LED i would be fine with that too.
Do not worry about a switch that does nothing, because, in a sense, it does. It is an S.F.A. switch. Years ago, in 400BC, when I used to rally Cooper S's, we always had to install an extra bank of switches to run things like driving lights for night events. (In those days we used aircraft landing lights!). Well, we always left a spare switch in case of subsequent installations. Every switch was marked with Dymo tape. (Before your time!). The spare was marked "S.F.A." This stood for Sweet F*#k All. To have an S.F.A. switch was a badge of honour. Enjoy it.
How about ? an "incognito" ignition kill switch going on the assumption that any low life car thief would not be intelligent enough to see the glaringly obvious ? just a thought?
Hi, did not know panel came out so easy, presume you know the 124 inside out now but can you advis me regarding my tail light, right side not working and the lisens plate in the dark also. Have checked the fuse etc. The right answer and you can have my shifter knot (original with MB logo on top)that match you panel. Free, but you have to pick up the freight from Norway.
1.2 watt "Grain of Wheat" Bulb is what you need as spares, Quite common in Euro car instrument clusters and bezel illumination and also available in SMD LED format. GE/Tungsram make them for most Euro brands like Tungsram, Hella, Phillips and Flosser. Not so much an auto store item as a dealer item but the reference number for these is 2721. Not much to go now and she's all buttoned up! Be sad to see her finished.
Hi MM I have a 1989 260E with aircon issue, first of all the aircon doesn't work but also the circulating button turns itself off few minutes after pressing, I live in Sydney and was wondering if you know any good mechanic here. Thank you
Hi MM. May i ask a question? My blower motor stopped working so i took it out, cleaned and applied some engine oil to it. It works now but witchever button you push the fan works only at the same speed. I also hear a high pitch noise( i could hear it when the motor wasn't working too) the tone of it changes when i push low or high. What would be your opinion on this?
Unfortunately i’m totally unaware of the push button system. But if the high pitched noise is coming from the motor speed controller it will be a good sign that either the blower motor is still binding or faulty or the motor speed controller has sustained damage when the motor was seized
sometimes they are extremely hard to remove. I’ve not broken one yet but I know it’s possible. Have spares handy if you have to pull to breaking point levels.
