Someone put a skeg guard on this motor and then went out and knocked it off. First thing you have to do to install this guard is to drill holes at the base of the lower unit, so that when it breaks again you don't have much to weld to.
Would welding or soldering on the skeg guard avoid the problem of losing strength or is it a question of steel being a much harder material than aluminium making it less effective at absorbing hits and making it snap off instead of denting?
