Really appreciate the detail and enjoyed your commentary along the way. The explanations on what you saw as you were working through each step was fantastic. I’ve got to tackle mine now and see how the two line up. Thanks again!!
Bought one of those brand new in 2007 great motor! And one of the 1st things that went out (covered under warranty) was the fuel pump, then the thermostat l, never had another issue after that!
You sir are a great teacher, I'm looking to buy a 2001 Bennington pontoon boat with a 60 hp mercury Bigfoot e f i., I assume it is of the same year, IDK, the gentleman that has it sells many boats, I haven't actually spoken with him yet but in his ad he says the engine runs, drives, and pumps water but not enough, he reiterates it runs really well but has to be repaired properly or it will be ruined, which brings me to you! Any input would be very much appreciated, thank you for your lessons.👍
@skylark4901 it sounds like it may have been and is currently been running while overheating. A compression test would be a good way to see if there is any internal issue and then determine why it overheats/repairs prior to future use.
Mr. Ted..thanks for that . You're made putting it back together look easy. I did the impeller, gasket change et no problem but the gear shifter is giving me difficulty lining up. When you say giving shifter a little wiggle did you mean someone at side counsel doing that?. If not any suggestion as.spent few hours playing with and ran out of cuss words :-). Thanks. Lou
Disregard request. Got it., fortunately. Got second pair of hands (son in law and grandson to wiggle lower unit while I ever so slowly maneuvered gear shift forward. Nextvtime will ensure I place in forward or reverse gear "prior" to detaching lower end. Thanks 😊
@@Willeecue I got e to go after getting extra pair of hands on lower end wiggling while I very gently played /pushed I to forward gear and worked. Try that first.
Good video, especially for mentioning the double gaskets. Can’t count how many times I’ve found milky lube caused by that. Probably would also be good to mention that you waited to install the prop until after you test ran the engine. This was a pet peeve of mine at the marina. It can be very dangerous to have a spinning prop out of the water! This is covered in every shop manual and at every factory school. But I’m not sure the average DIYer is aware how quick bad things can happen.
Hi is the water pump slinger you talk about come with the original motor or is it an aftermarket upgrade? I didn’t have it on when I disassembled mine. Thank you
Thank you Ted. For my specific motor this part is not listed in the parts diagram. I also called Mercury and as far as they could tell they said it fits the big foot but it’s not for my model (2011 60hp 4 stroke efi 1.83-1 ratio). I’m not sure they are correct. Do you think it would hurt to add this water slinger to mine despite them saying it doesn’t go on my model?
Ted, I replaced the water pump and impeller and I'm running my motor in a tub. I've got strong water stream from my tell tale, but I do see water coming out of the midsection. Is that normal?
