Thanks for posting this, my Grandma's car had been having this problem intermittently for a while. Turns out the bolt threads had a thicker anodized coating on all but one small section. On the latest time it wouldn't start, I attempted to start it, it didn't start, wiggled that ground, and it started right up. We used a wire brush wheel to clean off some of the anodized coating so it can make better contact and has seemed to work just fine ever since.

A lot of people may skip this one but I genuinely appreciate content like this because not only did we learn what was wrong with your car, we all learned a valuable lesson which is how easy it is to create our own problems. I have done this too. Do a part swap and something as simple as a connector left loose can cause the car not to start. I have done that multiple times! So we all need a reminder to not get in a rush and never assume the worst when we run into an issue. Also I fully support the reassembly of that bottom end. I believe it is gonna be solid and nothing to worry about.

Nice job showing us troubleshooting is all about the detail. You have to look at every little thing because it could be any little thing...and you have no idea of knowing which one. I will say something my Dad preached, and I don't always get it right when I think I know exactly what the problem is...always check the free stuff first, followed by the cheap stuff, and work up the price ladder from there. He was right, and more than once I've spent money I didn't need to spend money on and it didn't fix the problem.

so when touching the fuse cranked the starter, it must have been finding the missing ground through the test light. Glad you figured it out

If you don’t want to open the short block there is a way you can check the overall health beside looking at the crosshatch pattern on the cylinders. Use a breaker bar to turn the crank, it should be smooth and consistent as it is rotated around. That’s probably the best you can do.

BST, Glad you found the loose ground wire! Here's a funny, my 2010 safety neutral switch doesn't always work so I just pull the shifter up a little and she starts... Well the Wife had her car in the shop, warranty work, so she takes my Panther and goes to work then coming home she stops at the store, like 4 blocks away, and well the car don't start; so instead of calling me she walks home pissed, I go up there and started the car... didn't tell her the trick so now she refuses to drive any of my Vicks 🤣😂😁😎

'720 Seconds Later' I always check grounds first... had issues way back with head lights, dash and running lights flickering on my 1987 Peterbilt, replaced all sorts of stuff just to find a rusty ground wire behind the dash 🤣😂😀

greetings BST ford Channel, thanks for such a cool video, had a similar situation, 2005 mercury marquis no crank, check underneath there was no power coming to starter, sent a hot wire straight to starter, started worked so that ruled out bad starter.. checked fuses first.. all good.. checked for power coming to start relay under hood ,had power coming to relay so I suspected replay was bad, but with my years working as a automotive repair tech something told me to dig further. I know that everything electrical part has a hot side and ground, I checked the ground circuit of relay.. guess what.. that was it it.. the relay is not getting grounded somewhere in the fuse box. a ground wire inside the fuse box must be broken so I added a ground with a wire at the ground side of the started relay. now it cranks fine which was the original problem.. but now it cranks but don't fire up, I can hear the fuel pump working when key is turned, so I'm going to check the ground you mentioned under the ECU .it has got to be something simple because plenty of times while diagnosing this car I jumped the starter with a hot wire and and cranked and fired right up, but I'm wondering if the jumper ground wire I added to the starter relay is knocking something else off, I'm going back to my buddy's house and remove that ground wire I added and jump starter again to see if it fires up, and plus check that cable under the ECU. .

I have change the fuel pump the mecanic charge me 400 dollars and that was not the problem .I just paid 200 plus labor for ecm and that is not the problem .. so i am praying and hopeing that this is the problem.I will let you know.thanks a lot

Dude, it's not long and dragged out; it's very informative to quite a few of people who are learning to work on their own car for the first or second time this in depth. The only issue is that with Mr. Hand in-frame so often, you need to also have Mr. Bill to take out your frustrations on. LOLOL

I have had a bad fuel pump run module go bad before. I though maybe that was the issue. Good to know which ground to check should this happen again.

Also while sanding the driver side doors, I've found bondo! Not much but that explains the paint coming off those doors! The hood, roof was just UV light cooking the paint from the inside out... A Big issue whese you live 5200+ feet and stupid clear skys! The UV bounces off the metal flake and cooks the paint from the inside out 😮☹😟

It's the relay under the hood.the one by the horn relay happend to me 900 dollars later and 4 mechanics the locksmith that came to program the key for the new ecu I didn't need figured it out

I wish I was so lucky... So mine is a 2004 Sport. I cared for this car like you cant imagine. Ive had it since new. Had a wreck a few years back, and the stupid lawyer told me ...dont touch it until case is over. Case is over, broken neck, and the car sat 7 years with me only changing oil, and running it every so often. Last time I started was a few months ago... Now it wont crank. New starter (the cables disintegrated in my hands). I have this random thick cable that looks like its been cut (wasnt me! I wish I knew what it is..and where it goes..since I only have this cut cable..about 4awg?). Anyway, engine flakes off rust, and I mean POUNDS of it. Im on the neutral safety and its rotted, so is the lever to the cable. Not sure on the cable, but the bolt on the shift lever (on the trans side) is flaking and crumbling. THe neutral switch is fused in place...have to remove it somehow. Exhaust..pieces. Suspension..flaking... I used to praise the CV as a solid car. No. They are not. They used the cheapest metal they could find. I dont think this car will ever run again (I have been recording for a week now and wont post it because...well, who wants to see a video without the car starting? Right?). I have a Continental (73) that was abandoned in the mud, a NY car...and that is solid even though it sat for 20 years. I aint gonna lie, but this took the wind out of me. My CV was the car I broke my neck in, and really wanted to get it going...as a symbol that Im not over yet, that I still have life in me, like this car. But...between me being broken, the car being broken, it just is what it is.

Where do I get an ecu with a pats delete? My pats system is disabling my fuel and spark, I only have one key and the the Ford websites single key pats reset procedure isn't working.

One thing I would watch. Careful saying anything about the pins touching. That's his way out. Will swear that's what killed the PCM.

So I picked up a 04 pi computer for my civilian lx sport now it dont start tried you tube fuse trick no go or a even crank I took it out and put the old computer back and still no start or crank any ideas I also checked the ground ? Starter was acting up awhile ago then stopped then once other day but it stopped again but I only drive it sometimes but I'd at least hear a noise or something right while turning the key .

Should be easy enough to eliminate the issue with the PATS . he could just take it back and reflash it . Many issues can come up with the way things are grounded. Glad you managed to get it fired off !

I have some of the same issues here but mines actually cranks it’s a 2007 crown Victoria police interceptor now when I initially saw this video kouple days ago I’m like nah I really don’t wanna think it’s that I replaced throttle body crank shaft sensor and alternator but then I’m like lemme just try it then me and my mechanic tried it and it worked but it did the same as every other thing we fixed and thought was the problem it drove ok for a little while enough to get it back home then I thought I was klear then I’m driving down the boulevard and it just turns off mid drive again then it turns on enough to get me to advance auto part then it cut off again two more times it was doin some weird stuff like when I’d open the hood and klose it it turns right off then we did the ground thing again and it didn’t work this time at all so I left it where it is and I’m totally clueless as to what it kould possibly be now 😩 excuse my spelling I do that on purpose but do u have any advice or the next time I get to it I will upload a video and maybe u kan help me out with some knowledge maybe 🤔

It’s literally my 4-5th crown Vic and this is the newest one I’ve purchased but I def am not a fan of that electrical control shit at all my old vics u kan rev from under the hood I do not I repeat do not like that new electrical bs at all I’m tryna not to take it to the shop because crown Vics are easy fixable cars but this by far is theee worst trouble I’ve ever had with these cars like it’s makin me super not like them now 😩😩🤣🤣🤣🤣I wasn’t really into knowing about the p71’s and all that till this one but I never had problems of these sorts on any other one I had I had a 96 ,a 2001, 2004 and now 2007 u would think the newer the better but it’s total opposite to what I see smh
