-Due to it's geographic location, the state of Yucatan has been somewhat isolated from the rest of the country thus retaining it's unique culture. As a tourist, you will notice this in the locals names of food and see the different architecture of local homes.
-Some noteworthy cooking is "pibil" and "pok chuch" for pork and chicken.
-I bet you didn't know the first Korean migrants settled in Merida in 1905 to work on plantations
-Merida's historic center is actually the second largest in Mexico, after Mexico city.
-Even though the Yucatan has many cenotes, it is mainly flat topography just 9 meters above sea level.
-The more affluent areas are in the north and the more densley populated areas are in the south.
-The weather of Merida is hot all year round due to it's location to the Tropic of Cancer. Its annual average temperatore is 92f or 33c.
-If you get bored of Merida, your next destination can be Playa Progresso which is a one-hour bus ride, Valladolid which has a concentration of cenotes as well as Chichen-Itza. Alternatively, you can take taxi vans called colectivos. You can find them on the map by typing "Colectivo + town name"
