@Twin Reverbs Are Loud I was in Iraq in 09. I don't know if its all true what you say, but I am proud of what I did over there. I do know for a fact that those people for the most part glad we had freed them. Unfortunately, they had been under a dictator that controlled every aspect of their lives for so long, they are not able to do for themselves. Hence, ISIS filled the void. What is funny, the democratic party is wanting to do the exact same thing to the American people that saddam did to his.
Wannananalolodododo... "Robert... It goes down" It don't go down. "It do go down!!!" Awesome, great song 👍 Well then, stay healthy for all of us & Safety First folks! ✌😉
@@thelonehussar6101 That’s not true. California still has plenty of great, fun and safe places. Yes, the politicians and criminals have become more corrupt in recent years and people vote way too far left for my taste, but in spite of that it’s overall a relaxed, good place. You have to be aware of and avoid the bad areas. There always have been unsafe areas. Try not to buy Into all the modern hype and sensationalism of the media. You don’t hear about the countless good things from those people but the few bad situations and places. Sensationalism draws viewers.
@@Jonandbrianshow He lived in California until he died which was only seven years ago. Most people who don’t reside in California don’t realize just how conservative many Californians are. Publicity is always given to the most populated liberal cities like L.A., aS.F Bay Area and places like that. Also, in spite of some of his songs Merle was a little more liberal than most people are aware of.
@@TheTGOAC Hahaa.. Says the punk who is subscribed to the ‘peepee gang’.. go back to your video games in mommies basement. Obviously you don’t understand the comment. National anthem was never mentioned, so don’t get it twisted.
+Rich Dudley Thank you for your kind reply, and (I know it's decades overdue) a very cordial Welcome Home. A bit about me: US Army Reserve, enlisted, tours in Iraq and Afghanistan (as far as my youth... I'm 44 years old:-) ). I first heard this song after I returned... and loved it.
KonradAdenauerJr When you are 68, you too will consider 44 young :) Thank you for the welcome home. I have striven these many years to make sure people respected military personnel, even if they disagreed with the military action being waged. I was an AF PJ who served 3 tours in Vietnam between '67 and '72 when I was medically retired. I came home to a country full of people that spit on me, pelted me with rotten vegetables and screamed vile obscenities at me. And I couldn't kill any of them! I have a ribbon rack in a shadow box with a tomato seed stuck smack dab in the middle of my Silver Star, almost like an attachment.
+Rich Dudley That's an interesting place for a tomato seed to land in. When I was in college in the early 1990s, I had this professor who had been opposed to the Vietnam War during her own college years, and who conceded that the antiwar protesters had made a huge mistake by treating returning vets the way you've described. When returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, I never experienced such a mean "reception."
How could you leave out Johnny Cash and June Carter. Bob Wills, Ernest Tubb, Webb Pierce, Kitty Wells. Willie, Moe Bandy, Patsy Cline, Buck, Charley, Jeannie C., Jerry Lee, Emmy Lou, Crystal, Oakridge Boys, and a whole host of others.
America love it or leave it. Let this be a warning, when you are running down my country man your on the fighting side of me. Man I miss those days. RIP my man I will always stand with you. Proud to be an American.
@@leahflower9924 that’s not following the logic of the comment. The comment is not that they told it to someone , it’s imagine if someone had told that to them.
This Amazing song written years ago Should be played all over The Great U.S.A and for Old Glory...Take That NFL...tell them Merle...U.S.A. U.S.A U.S.A...from your Canadian neighbor.
Im sure alot of people are its a song about blind national pride theres alot of that going around right now. Men fought and died for this country as men fought and died for Nazi Germany as men fought and died for Imperial Japan. Are unrealized ideals don't change the fact that were a sick society that lets children die without health care that lets veterans go homeless that lets our American Companies and Farms to hire illegal workers legally and profit from cheap labor whilst treating the workers as criminals we are a hypocritical society these ideals of freedom, liberty, justice are nothing more than that untill we truly realize them. Theres obviously worse places to live of course but in America we all taught from an eary age to believe in these absolutes that we are a free and just society. Ultimately this becomes the biggest obstacle towards actaully achieving that society as drones of fools view change as a digression from are already "perfect society" you hear it from right wing media all day how all will be lost if they lose power they sell optimism not practicality they sell those ideals those absolutes ingrained in us that we already live in a fair and just society and they use that to make us fear positive change. Now im not saying the left is only seeking positive change either though, pc and cancel culture and the censorship of art music, and especially comedy is sickening to me it weakens the ability for art to truly reflect culture which its has for all of time. The tribalism as a whole is destroying us we cannot communicate . Countless brillant minds from Socrates to Carl Jung emphasize that only the power of the individual can truly save humanity. People need to throw away there seals and deviate from the norm so we can begin trying to live by our conscience. I personally cannot and I think most of us are just too lazy to. We would rather be the bloodsuckers of the world knowing when we stuff our face others are starving not just around the world but our neighbors too. Its a hard reality to face and truthfully alot of people just don't care and they just hide behind patroitism. There the people who don't really believe in freedom, liberty, and justice they believe that things as they are benefit them and thats good enough for them to wave there flags around and say "Ill kick your fuckin ass if you talk bad about America" there patriotism lies in there need for security and there fear of change. All Im saying really is boy do us humans have a long way to go huh?
This song could've been written today, and it would be just as applicable. Many of these liberals are constantly complaining about what an awful place this country is. If they can't handle living in the greatest nation the world has ever seen because of a problem they've made up, then they are more than welcome to go live in one of these horrific communist countries that they are always so busy praising. God bless America, and those with the courage to defend it.
This whole song is the absolute truth. I read another comment about this being more relevant now than back then. That is true. People saying that we’re just wasting time fighting. I suggest you listen to this and Darryl Worley’s Have You Forgotten.
I'm mostly a 80's and 90's Metal guy, but by god I can't help but love this old country stuff. Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Wille Nelson Etc.
I grew up on hip-hop and punk rock. If I knew about this music as a kid, I’d probably be a musician. Waylon is probably my favorite. Merle is a beast as well. True outlaws and I’ve got that outlaw mentality.
I like punk and early metal but a lot of country music is better they can sound good with just an acoustic guitar and their voice they don't even need a microphone
Merle, my Dad and me! We sang all of his songs sittin on the back porch, I was the record changer! So many memories, Dad was a Marine, the 3rd of 13 kids! He was my hero! Miss him so much!
I'm from England and know Okie from Muskogee, but learning more about old Hag. I can tell you one thing, he said what a lot of ordinary Americans thought and still do now with all the leftishness around. I wanted to serve my country when I was younger and was willing to serve six years in the RAF, but a medical issue stopped me.
you realize okie was a satire song right? he was poking fun at the archaic beliefs of simpleton small town conservatives. haggard supported Obama and hillary in the decade leading up to his death.
+Forrest Shields I'm sorry us small town simpleton are not as cultured as some other people like in New York, the state that gave us both Trump and Hillary. Them guys back there are far ahead of the curve it would seem.
My theme song and my anthem. When you hear this song, then you know all you need to know about me and how I feel about our flag and our country. Run either down and "you're walking on the fightin side of me"!!!
l agree with you, indeed Merle Haggard is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style,he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days!
I missed the chance to see him just six months before he passed, in Helotes Texas,,,,,,my friend saw him and told me he was still rockin' and voice was pure country and the music absolutely fantastic! If he had not gotten so sick, he would still be out there today. Thank you Lord for giving that man his gift and giving him strength and courage to share with so many for so long!
Hello 👋Karen. How are you doing? Hope you are fine. I'm Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado, where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
welcome to the good stuff... Buck Owens, Dwight Yoakam, George Jones (honorable mention to George Strait) and Alan Jackson. I'll add Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash.
For today's country music that is still traditional, I've recently discovered Sturgill Simpson, listening to it now. It's an interesting mix of classic country and rock, thanks to youtube autoplaying on me, I'm enjoying 'you can have the crown/some days', 'long white line', 'it ain't all flowers', 'living the dream', 'life of sin'. and if you like the women in country, the current Kacie Musgraves and Ashley Monroe are easy on the eyes and doing unique but still traditional country.
@@wolfmasters1 They threaten all the time over presidential elections but end up staying right here. So can you now see how your reply was "a stupid thing to say"?
I'll have to agree with you. Good guy. I was lucky enough to have met him back in the late 80's when he played the County Bowl in Santa Barbara CA. The country station in Ventura should play more real country music instead of this country hip hop.
