What a breath of fresh air! Would love to see Merrill as a color man in a NFL broadcast booth. Maybe he's TOO honest. I was sports director at a small eastern Idaho tv station, and Hoge/Idaho State University was in our coverage area. Man was a workout beast, even in the dog days of summer when his teammates were out getting drunk and chasing women. How ya doing, Merrill!? Dave from KIFI-TV says hi. Drop me a line if you see this.
I was watching on my TV and had to jump to my phone so I could leave a comment.. WHERE TF HAVE YOU BEEN MERRIL HODGE!?! You are one of my favorite analysts of all time. Love your takes and knowledge. Hope you’re well!
“He never played in structure… You never draft someone because they’re exciting.” That quote right there. That’s why you don’t draft Trey Lance or Anthony Richardson.
@@tomdanks8714Cracks me up when Lamar's name is put next to an Allen or a Mahomes. Climb out of your bubble. That guy has been objectively worse every year since his MVP. The man struggles to hit a barn door with a football.
I've commented this a million times so here's 1 million and 1, NO ONE asks better questions at least for me than Dan Patrick aka DP and it ain't even close. He just literally asked MH every single question I would wanted to hear the answer to. Is this how algorithm works?
Merril Hoge was getting less appreciated as an analyst because of his take on Tim Tebow. People forget to realize that he picked Khalil Mack over Clowney. He was right on that one.
@@RedRocket415 um he threw away his cushy ESPN gig to advocate for more kids to have life long brain damage by pretending tackle football for kids under 14 isn’t obviously bad for their mental development…dude thinks his cte rattled brain is smarter than 98% of brain doctors and scientists
Meryl Hodge also was spot on in his assessment of Jadeveon Clowney being a disappointment and Khalil Mack being a star, which he was until he left the Bears. Dude knows his stuff.
If I was to do a sports talk and analysis show, i'd want Merrill to do at least some pre-draft segments. He's super hard working and smart. He's not an entertainer. We need more Merrills today. Great sports shows aren't driven by marketting departments and don't give a crap about clicks. That's Merrill in a nutshell.
Merrill lived four houses down from me in Pocatello Idaho, let us play jam ball in his drive way him and family are all class act. Sad that Highlqnd our highschool burned down.
It’s week 6 in this 2023 NFL season and he is spot on. CJ looks like the clear best QB in the draft, Young is struggling in the dirty pocket, AR is exciting but inaccurate, and Bijan has been tremendous.
It’s an exception rather than a rule. More often then not it’s something you can’t fix in panic mode. He did have his troubles towards the end of the season..
Although he obviously worked hard at it, Josh Allen had Coach Brian Dabol schooling him. I believe Dabol is one of the best QB "whisperers" in The NFL.
He did improve tremendously but he still is prone to throw some costly int’s. A lot of a QB’s success or lack of depends on what type of organization, system and coaching they come into.
Not trying to be disrespectful but I remember as a kid when he was on ESPN I used to think he would say a lot dumb things especially coming from a former NFL player turn analyst.. Did he willingly leave ESPN or was he let go
I love Merrill, but he also needs to reconcile players like Allen, who showed terrible accuracy in college and in the nfl for his first two season, and Mahomes who played way out of structure in college.
