Yea he is simply using words incorrectly, yes in the largest study on CTE they found the number of diagnosed concussions had no relation to CTE development, but playing football leads to CTE. The contact your head makes with the ground and other players even if not concussion level, will never be good for you and leads to CTE. If he had only said what the title says then id have no problem, but multiple times he says playing football has no link to CTE and thats bafoonery.

CTE is caused by the consequences of collision sport with concussions being a subset thereof. You could eliminate all concussions and not stop CTE. But this doesn't mean concussions aren't a causative factor. Indeed, they are the worst. Particularly when they come in rapid succession and exacerbated by dehydration, lack of fitness, the point of impact etc. etc.

@chicagodude8888 7 месяцев назад
The jury is out on whether or not CTE is real. Brain damage caused by repeated traumatic hits to the head however indisputably causes brain damage. This guy’s purposefully trying to distract people from the dangers of playing by focusing on a simple word like “CTE”, not looking at the big picture.

Kids go into football because they want to generally. The amount of kids forced to play by parents at this point is so minimal, and those kids never end up successful anyways. .01% of kids end up in NFL, the money isn't why kids play, kids played football in school well before the NFL became a financial giant.

@@MrSlickwilly09 It depends on how you define "hit". If you are talking about a collision with other players this isn't strictly true since most sub-critical brain trauma are caused simply by impacting the ground. These injuries tend to be pretty minor. But there are a lot of them. Far more than collisions with other players. And they are cumulative. It's the reason evidence of brain trauma has been found in very young children playing in leagues where heavy person-to-person contact is discouraged and even penalized.

It depends on how many concussions you get and how easy you get them. How can they not lead to CTE later in life. I think a handful of concussions probably won't but sustained blunt force trauma to the brain absolutely ties to CTE. Especially in years past so many concussions went ignored and undiagnosed. Playing football in essence of course does not lead to brain injuries typically. Not every big hit leads to brain trauma. But a great many do. Not allowing concussions to heal long enough is the problem. It's more than just seeing if the lights are on.
@jusbertmeza4424
@jusbertmeza4424 7 месяцев назад
There is some science that says if given time to recover from a concussion there is no permanent damage but that’s ONLY if you give your brain enough time to fully recover but that’s actually 4-6 weeks
@bryanmahoney3434
@bryanmahoney3434 7 месяцев назад
My point exactly. Its more than just seeing if the lights are on. You can still have an acute concussion even if no obvious signs are present. Concussions are almost never given the proper time to fully heal. Especially between occurrences. This is particularly true with Professional Wrestlers and Football Players. It has gotten better in recent years but high pressure careers like that where you are under pressure to perform with the fear of losing a spot entices athletes to come back prematurely. I think the Pro Wrestling world has done tremendously in recent times with handling concussion crisis' Adam Cole in particular probably saved his life going that extra mile. Hangman Adam Page suffered a severe concussion in real time and the way it was handled was on point in that moment. I think the NFL is still very brash. Tua Tagovailoa was a huge embarrassment for them. He should have been out at least 4 weeks after that first concussion. The entire rest of the season the 2nd time. He was absolutely lucky he didnt have his career ended after he seized the 2nd time.@@jusbertmeza4424

So he admits that CTE is real, he understands concussions are not good and you need proper care to recover from it, and acknowledges there can be cognitive issues later in life from playing football. How tf is he not describing that playing football increases the probability of developing CTE? He chalks up his cognitive issues to emotional trauma from his change of lifestyle, but he also said it wasn’t a concussion that ended his career, which means his personal anecdotal evidence is completely irrelevant. He slipped that by the hosts, his story means nothing in the context of concussions unless he’s saying that former football players are just weak-minded people that can’t handle lifestyle changes, and also commit suicide at a higher rate than athletes of other sports. I’m glad he evaluates QBs well, but his science is more flawed than Johnny Manziel.

Cognitive issues?! I kind of see what the guy wants to say. I believe concussions increase a chance of brain damage. And if the person with severe or many concussion experiences has a trouble with circulatory system like a heart disease or cardiac issue and hypertension, brain damage and diseases could easily be developed. Both of my parents developed brain diseases and issues. They had weak cardiac system or high blood pressure. I believe cardiac and brain systems are closely connected and can directly affect each other.
