Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier 3ch 100w vs Peavey 6505+ |High Gain Amp Head Shootout 

The Peavey is the kid jumping in the pond and splashing at everyone around. The Recto is the officer that doesn't tolerate mistakes.

With boost engaged, the recto sounded more scooped, whereas the Peavy sounded fuller in the mid range.

Both amps are legendary classics for metal 👍 love them both !

man I truly just enjoyed listening and it has helped greatly in my decision making. Both are top notch but for me I think the extra mid range the peavey provides may have me hooked.

Peavey all the way! Mesa was very fizzy in comparison...

First of all, great riffs I really dug it. I never have owned a 6505 but I have owned a few 5150s but the one I regretted have sold was the 5150II. I still owned a Mesa Dual Rectifier and I am looking for a 6505II. Yes, the Mesa has a funny fizzy mid that defined old Metallica sound. I love both of them. FYI, I have to say that the boosted version of your recording sounded more defined.

I preferred 6505 both ways. DR way too 'trebly' but sounded much better unboosted.

I have a 112 6505+ combo I run through a 412 with 2 v30s and 2 1290s Sheffields and I love it. I want to get something to replace the 1290s with eventually but I like it now.

I love both of these amps. The 5150 on Orange is fantastic for punchy thrash riffs. The rectifier has this amazing harmonic character, even at low gain it can ring out as if you have a sustainiac. 1 day I spent hours battling: Rectifier VS 5150 VS Ultra Plus, the 5150 came in last place. You can't dial out that hisssssss. It's not a clean distortion unfortunately.

I own a 120 watt 6505+, and love it ,but I'm crushing pretty hard on the mesa. I'm sure modding either one , you could get the best of both idk.

both sounds great with their own character. MEsa and Peavey in one band shoulb be make very good fuller sound.

Have a 6505+ that I put an EQ on to boost high and mid clarity and it's a completely different amp. I actually dont think the MB would respond as well

I've never liked the 6505's I've owned and sold through the years. Always sounds to me like a half cocked wah pedal. Love my Mesa's and EVH's. But in your comparison the Peavey outperformed the Mesa in a big way. I'm surprised and confused, lol. Another great comparison. Thanks for your taking the time to do these.

I'm new to high gain amps, i have been leaning towards the Peavey 6505+ in every video. In the case of the mesa, i keep hearing that mid frequency scoop, maybe it works in a mix, who knows.

the mesa just sounds like you slapped a tube screamer in front of the 6505+ and adjusted the sound levels accordingly

Peavey is a kickass of all times... so underrated

I’ve always preferred that 5150/6505 over Measa. There is just too much ‘warble’ in the rectifiers, and something about its mid frequencies causes it to drown it self out in metal/metalcore/hardcore, etc when it comes to anything other than rhythm playing. I can also hear that ‘frying’ tube sound, which kills clarity and makes it sound like a ‘metal’ distortion pedal. Rather than the warmth of tubes. While the Mesa has better low end sustain, it’s incredibly situational - and can often make palm muted stuff sound too muddy/fluffy at times. Of course it can sound good, but no amp should require so much set up, pedal/utility dependency, etc. Otherwise you might as well get a Kemper profiler, etc.

Have you tried the 498t bridge pick up on metal? If so how’d you liked it?

I would love to hear the 6505+ compared to a Peavey Triple XXX or JSX!

The peavey 6505+ doesn't really need a boost it has gain for days. Rob from Chimaira said he never used a boost with the peavey 6505+ and had a brutal killer defined metal tone.

I think its a phycological thing. If you own one you convince yourself to hate the other to not spend the cash for both.

this is the real sound on both amps, although neither has the sound that I would like, I prefer the peavey

Mesa wins for metal with that unmistakable high flat sizzle. I wish you could test them using a metal guitar w/active pups instead of a Gibson

My vote - for what it's worth (it all sounds like NOISE to me) is the MESA BOOGIE. It produces that thick, chunky tone (with definition) and immediate response .. best stay with that MB.

Mesa Sounds better with the booste, tighter Bass. The Peavey sounds a lot better without the booste! Actually the Mesa with the booste and the Peavey without sound quite close...

I like the peavey better which I never thought I'd say cause of mesa boogies reputation and sound but it sounds to scooped and "Metallica like". I have an evh 5153 an it is a high gain monster. Don't even need a boost. Just switch to the red channel...lol.

This video is so weird for me. First of all it’s great and shows me everything that I’ve wanted to see. But the weird thing is although I thought the Mesa sounded better than the Peavey overall. The mesa sounded so...common. Which made me like it a little less. Seems like everyone uses Mesa boogie these days and I ended up liking the Peavey because it sounded more unique. Idk weird

The Boogie has a fuller sound. The Peavey is a bit sterile in comparison.

There is no difference in Peavey from china and usa.
