That "push" thing is a signature style Sting is known for. Seems like much of his music is composed with emphasis on the "up" beat in a lot of his songs. Great lesson as usual. He does play big stretches for smaller hands. Beautiful Fender there Justin. At the end those chords you are "noodling" with almost reminds me of that song, "What I am, is what I am". LOL

Justin talks about alternate picking and explains he starts with a down stroke but I play it - down down up - on each of the notes in the chord which is how Andy Summers plays it too. It seems to flow better that way & it offers an alternative to strict alternate picking. Like the maestro says there's no correct way though. Great lesson as always & I'm learning fast thanks to you mate, THE best teacher on the net! 42 years old & still learning, lol:) Thanks a mill, Gazza

I have tiny hands and this is not impossible to play but extremely uncomfortable to the point where I'm not having any fun. feels bad

you can use your middle finger as a pivot post. Then it makes you release the root note a bit earlier but for me it works pretty well

Andy Summers plays it differently. Most lessons on RU-vid play it the way you do but I watched a video of Andy playing it and he starts in the same place but then goes to an open A powerchord and 9th then 2,4,6 on A, D & G strings and the same moved up to the E, A & D strings. It doesn't really matter, both work because they're the same notes but I just thought I'd mention it as some people might find this method easier. Cheers for everything you do Justin 😊

Justin, could you please explain harmonics after the 1st chorus in "Message in a bottle" from the record . Although there is a lesson by Andy Summers from his instructional DVD, he does not play it there like on record from 'Reggata de Blanc", and it's also hard to catch from the video. Thank you for your great videos!

@GazzaLanzarote Just another quick reply. There's also a different way of playing the riff without that massive jump to F#. Try dropping the shape from C# to the open A, then up to B on the a string, then finish on the F# as it's there on the low e string. Same shape just a different way. Andy Summers plays it the way Justin does in the vid btw. I hope that makes sense, Gazza

@googoplexable Yeah I do it down-down-up. Also, I find it much easier to stay on the 5th string for C#m A B, then moving vertically down one string for the F#m.

I use a couple of the police songs to help stretching, but I struggle so much, I think I also have a very stumpy little finger and these stretches seem really hard, specially the f#

The song 'Hyna' by David Lee Roth (played by Steve Vai) uses this pattern throughout the verses. It would be really cool if you could cover that song at some point!

Justine, I noticed you use your middle finger to play the second note. Does it matter if you use the middle or third finger? I find using my third is easier. Thx again and luv your lesson. I’ve learned so much from you watching your channel over the years as a home hobbyist player. 🤘
