great video and the nox are great fun had mine over Avoca a few weeks back got a good signal on a rock took it home crushed it up and panned it and it had a small bit of gold in it . happy days.....
Thanks Alicia and Steve, as i said, I'm new to relic hunting but I'm really enjoying getting out for a quick session. I hope you guys are getting a few. Cheers, JG
Cartwheel Penny ...BOOM ...great condition Great vid Gotta luv pre dec Silvers . Best way to clean up the 1925 is electrolysis .. Thanks for show & tell
Thanks mate for the tip, ill give it a go. I just googled how to do it seems pretty straight forward. Have you had much success cleaning via electrolysis?
G’day J A lot of coin shooters don’t like to clean coins , but if you are going to keep them Its good to have a before & after pic. Have you tried to clean it at all ? A paste made up of bicarb. soda & water could get most of it , Electrolysis is a last resort for that black tarnish . Luv Gold of course , But pre decs & relics is also very cool..!
Awesome hunt on the coins Jay. Cartwheel is in amazing condition and melamine sponges will get the black off the .925 silvers. Cant believe how thin the nug was.
Ok cool, ill give melamine a go. Will it damage them at all? I was told to never clean coins, but i guess these ones arent super valuable so it probably wont matter. I thought it was a big nug!! Happens sometimes, i guess its better then nothing. Cheers. JG
The sponges are good on coins. Realistically you are only going to find maybe one or two valuable coins in a lifetime and you have to remember it’s been sitting in the ground for 50 + yrs.
Absolutely fantastic finds JGold. As a novice to this side of metal detecting you've been very successful. The 2d Cartwheel is a ripper of a find, and particularly in that condition. Most Cartwheel's I've seen (I have 2 (both 1d) but have seen many more) are barely recognisable. Can I suggest you join one or two internet forums (my avatar is Detectist) - Australian Metal Detecting and Relic Hunting , and, Prospecting Australia. Loads of info and lots of people who can give advice and help identify some of your finds. Don't clean unless you know you won't want to sell.
Gday Dan, thanks for the info. Ive been lucky so far with the NOX. Ive found a heap of silvers, and some nice old tokens(which i didnt film!!) I really love getting out there, it's way easier then going on a gold hunt, and a lot closer to home. Ill defiantly check those websites out, i think I'm a member of Prospecting Australia, but dont get the time to check them out much. But next time, if i need help with a relic ill jump on and share. Thanks again, JG
Gday Nate, Personally I haven't really used the 19" coil very much. Ive got one but the size of it makes detecting where i detect, difficult due to the size and open coil design. I literally got the nugget finder skid plate for it today and i plan on using it more and more. Ive heard good reports when using it in Normal, but i cant where i detect due to high mineralization. Also, if you have open flat country, (no scrub to deal with) id be using it also. Good luck, and keep me posted on how you go. Ill try and get a vid of the 19" sooner or later. PS.. My next gold vid is not to be missed, it'll be up soon. Stay tuned. JG
Hey mate, I use a small tumbler. No chemicals. Just water and good quality mix of stainless steel shot (diff types). Sometimes a pinch of detergent to speed it up. The tumblers are cheap, approx $80 and the shot I got from a place in SE QLD from ebay. Great hunt.
Oh yeah, you should try the ProFind 35, it is a pretty powerful little pin pointer. How cool, ZED for gold and NOX for silver. It is an untouchable pairing I think.
Mate i dont know how to find it at the best of times!! My advice is to get out as much as you can, then i guarantee you'll find some yellow. Good luck, JG
