Metal Drummer Reacts to BLACK PENTAGRAM (Unlucky Morpheus) 

The person that does the growls is the lead guitarist, he had the neck make up on. For the last couple of years he has been suffering with tenosynovitis of the arm, so has to rest it on some songs when they play live, so Jill takes over his part playing violin when they play this live, and it's just like WOW, she does not miss a thing, they also do it for a song called "Angreifer". They have a side project which is 4 of them doing instrumental covers, with the violin taking over the lead. There are videos for a violin cover of Eruption (EVH), Far Beyond The Sun (Yngwie), Dance Of Eternity (Dream Theater) and a drum cover of Hundreds Of Thousands (Tony MacAlpine).

Unlucky Morpheus is another amazing band to witness live, highly recommend checking out Angreifer live. The violin is most definitely not a gimmick, she is an insanely talented violinist. They recently covered a few songs with focus on violin, one of them Dream Theater - The Dance of Eternity

They have so many good songs, their masterpiece, as a song and a s a technical exercise, is Cadaver/Revadac, the score for the first half (Cadaver) is reversed for the second (Revadac) note for note, except for a little in the drums where that would not work.

Japan has been going through a rock/metal revolution in the past decade and it's been amazing. Taking us to new grounds in similar ways that symphonic metal did in the early 2000s. Mega awesome.

Unlucky Morpheus is amazing. I like the drums even more on their song "Knight of Sword". It does have the neoclassical vibe too. Another band who happens to have a great drummer is Yousei Teikoku, I like it especially in the song "Shito Kanadeshi Hametuno Tategoto".

Now you need to check out the live version of this song. It just hits different.

Jill, the violin player she was added originally to cover Shiren's (red headed guitar player) guitar solos because he has Tenosynovitis of the arm which limits how often he could play guitar. So he has been focusing on the harsh vocals while still being the main songwriter and programmer. Jill plays his guitar parts on the violin live on songs that were written before she joined the band. Another song you should see that focuses on Fumiya (drums) is from the sub-unit of Unlucky Morpheus, QUADRATUM from Unlucky Morpheus. It is a Tony MacAlpine cover, "Hundreds of Thousands".

The violinist JILL is legit. So far from what i know, she's the only violinist in a metal band from Japan. I'm not sure if there's a metal band that uses violin as one of the instruments as Unlucky Morpheus does. Their live performances are fire

I slapped "LIKE" before even watching this because UM's drummer is a bona fide BEAST! (Plus, Jill is a doll!)

Glad you enjoyed Unlucky Morpheus! It's already been recommended but definitely check out their live performance of Angreifer. All of their songs are great, but also check out Tower of Blood. Their drummer FUMIYA is always on point, but that song is violin heavy 🤘😁🤘

It’s rumored this song is inspired by the anime Attack on Titan. A ton of Japanese rockers are huge into anime.

"I'm assuming one of the guitar players is doing the harsh vocals." You would be correct, and he's really good at em. However, if you do want to see some incredible harsh vocals from a female vocalist, check out DOLL$BOXX sometime. I think you'd be in for a treat. The song Shout Down by them is one of my favs and i'd always recommend it to others who haven't heard DOLL$BOXX before. Also, you may or may not recognize someone from the band in this video, in DOLL$BOXX as well. Just saiyan. ;)

Unlucky Morpheus is the best progressive metal band in the world right now in my opinion. It’s really a shame that their management does not allow them to tour very often outside of Japan. Hopefully someone with a big platform like a Rick Beato will noticed them and take a deep dive into their music and possibly produce a video discussing the Japanese metal scene. At this rate we’re going to look back years from now and realize that we did not know what we had in this band. True genius

Great band but the singer is not my favorite. If you want a great Japanese band try Galneryus - Angel of Salvation live (with violins) and of course there is also a new vieo from Lovebites : Lovebites winds of transylvania.

Lovebites is good but Unlucky Morpheous is so much better
