I foam-boarded mine inside for insulation. Leaving approximately 0.75" air space between inside of metal siding/roof. This was done after I ran wiring. Then covered walls and ceiling with a final surface. Used expanding foam in corners and wherever there was light coming in. Also placed conduit in the floor below concrete to avoid drilling into sheet metal sides, worked beautifully! Off-set the garage doors (opposite walls, opposite corners) to save on usable space inside. Did NOT use the "bubble wrap insulation" very low "R" value for the money and deteriorates over time. Was able to insulate entire building with foam board for less than it would have cost to insulate only the roof with the Bubble insulation. Nice job on the video!
Jim Cole thank you! And sounds really nice would like to see some pictures of yours inside for some ideas. I just ran electrical and I’m getting ready to insulate and looking for ideas. Was gonna spray foam but way to pricey. I’m not sure about the bubble insulation your talking about I’ve never heard or seen that. Why the air space? You heating it too?
@@YamRida468 Yes, theres heating. A "dead" air space contributes to the insulative value or "R-value". I also bought tubes of silicone caulk and sealed all seams of the siding from inside first to reduce air flow and moisture. The method I implemented seems to be the least expensive/most effective solution.
For a DIY insulation you can buy a froth pack and lay an inch of foam on the wall then add a the 1" insulation foam board. The use OSB board to cover it all up
I have one very simular to yours. Mine is a 20x25 which is all the room I had for it. I have a lift in the center which makes it pretty much a one bay garage with all my tools and benches around the sides. We all wish they were bigger after the fact. I used silicone to glue up reflective fiberboard insulation sheets to the sheet metal and it made it much cooler and quieter inside. I am in Alabama so it gets really hot here with no insulation. That back wall is a perfect spot to put an exhaust fan up high to cool yours down.
Dan Carroll very cool! Yeah we always want bigger hahaha and I need to insulate mine to keep it warmer not colder lol I’m in Michigan where it gets to negative temps!
I'm in the process of doing a metal bldg. Watching your video has given me the idea to lay down the waterproof caulking to the concrete before the steel comes in contact with it. Good video.
Looks great! I've got to get my land surveyed but the smallest it looked like I could go with was 24W×30D and was worried that'd be awfully small but after seeing the Ram and Vette in there with room to spare makes me feel better if I can't go larger.
If been building them for over 15 years and finally my brother in law has his own company yes they should you offer insulation and advice to do a natch in your concrete to bring your metal down and don't have to use silicon but lm glad you happy with it we in Arkansas and happy to help to get your new projects
Santiago Doninguez thanks! Hey check out my insulation video I would like your input on how I did it and if you think I’ll have issues. Please and thanks!
@@YamRida468 that was very good idea r 13 holds some good value in sound condensation and temperature l love the way you turn the curve edge wheels make it look like brand new .In the second video
Nice looking shop, Look into menards metal roof accessories, they make a foam weather strip that will fit in those corners to seal up those draft holes, and it’s pre molded to the shape of those metal siding panels.
Great review. I'm in the process of building a new log home and we went a little over budget and that money came out of the garage budget. So now I'm thinking about a metal garage instead of a matching log garage. Looks like a great alternative.
Nice shop looks great, I have a 30x24 slab already poured so my next step is the metal garage. What I plan to do is instead of using the tin siding I'm going to close it in with particle board tyvec it and then use vinyl or aluminum siding similar to a house. Doing this should make insulating inside much easier (I hope)! Lol I want the garage to blend into the neighborhood so you will never know it's a metal building. I have an all brick cape cod style home.
I was worried about putting one of these on a 4 inch slab. A contractor I talked to said the anchors they use are 3 1/2 inch long. For everyone asking about prices, in Cleveland oh, a 4 inch slab poured 20x25 was around $4000. I'm getting a 20x40 slab for $5500 poured 4 inches thick 👍
I'm in North Olmsted and looking to get one of these installed. I was told, by a garage building company that came out to my property for an quote, that the new foundation requirements call for 24"w x "48h(depth) footers on a concrete slab. Due to the foundation requirements the concrete pad, sized 24' x 24', was going to be $9k by itself. Can I ask what company you dealt with?
Great build. Trying to choose a garage for my new house in bfe Texas. Tuff shed wants 20 grand for a 20x20x9, which is waaay to much cash. I've found the metal ones run about 5 or 6 grand for the same size. I think I'm set on going metal with a concrete pad/apron. I need a metal roof for the hail storms, and insulated for the hot texas summers. Looks great!
If you haven’t insulted yet, spray foam insulation would give you a better R-value and they could keep it flush to the metal studs then you could install osb, or drywall.sweet building. I would buy one for sure.
Rich Wallace I was going to go spray foam route until I got a quote of 4500. I know it holds heat better but I think I’m gonna hang insulation and throw some boards up for less than half the price!
Very nice! I’m pricing out a 24x32 for next spring. Around me there are several pole garage builders that will build for $3k more than a steel frame structure. I’ll probably go with them because they are easy to insulate and include overhangs and gutters. Really informative video though and lets me see all the differences in construction.
I think you should explore putting a French drain around the perimeter to protect your building from the negative slope. Really nice, though, and thanks for sharing this.
I've always wanted roll up doors because you have complete overhead access as the door is rolled up and not stretched out over half the garage. The roll up mechanism is very similar to the type you lready have and they have power roll up doors too. Probably cost more tho.. The vertical siding layout is probably the best option.
Dana V yeah I looked into that as well but didn’t hear good things about it. I wanted a heavy insulated door as well. Can’t do that in a roll up and I have WiFi Access with my opener that’s side mounted so I have more room above
Wish I saw this before I bought one! Stick build is the way to go. So many bugs and mice get in this. Mine is 12x20, needed storage for my daughters stuff, now that she moved out I use it for my Corvette. Upstate NY near Vermont and Bees are horrible, and mice make a mess out of everything. Stick building a 30x50 next and will use the metal for lawnmower and yards stuff!!
I don't feel so bad now looking at yours, The city I'm in only allows me up to 600 sq ft which is this size 24x25. I was a little bumbed out because I had my heart set on this sweet 26x35 but oh well. The only difference is they all me to go up to 12.5 ft tall so I'll be going with 12 ft walls.
Been looking at maybe an 18x31 to store my compact tractor, zero turn & SXS. Probably won't do windows to keep prying eyes out. Not sure what I'd use for insulation, I'd certainly great stuff all the gaps. Put a security camera on the corner of the house.
Thomas Tarlton great question, before I ran power out there I just had it plugged into an extension chord but the garage door opener also has a battery that gets charged when plugged in. And when unplugged or if the power goes out the battery kicks on and can open and close the door a few dozen times from the battery only.
How is that garage door holding up? Did they do any further reinforcement of the square tube frame? My 24x40 with 12g steel was just completed and has a 18x8 frameout.
I'm in Michigan too and wanted to put in garage in this summer , was looking into the 24x24 wood style kit from Menards , but after watching this , I like that the price includes installation . Did you have to get footers on your concrete work? ... or just 4-5in slab.. I know for wood style at this size I would need footers .
I live in Wisconsin and I'm looking to build one of these. I don't plan to heat the garage, but do you have an issue with the metal sweating and dripping onto your vehicles? Or is that more of an issue for those who heat their metal garages? Thank you.
How much was the total for just garage door(garage door, install and opener) ? Plan on getting a building up and I really don't like the roll up door option.
You might want to squirt some oil on your garage door torsion springs, it'll get rid of the clunking noise when the door starts coming up plus the door will operate alot smoother too
I’m probably going to go with Carport Center here in WA State and have the exact set up as yours with the same colors, with your garage door did you need any special brackets to install it?
thats alot nicer then i thought my dad told me to look into a metal garage instead of a traditional build and im 80% sold . what about lights do they allow them to be mounted in metal garages ?
Hang some lights and dark tint the windows. It looks good. What did the garage cost? How about the slab, what was the cost of it and did you pour it yourself?
larry lucas thanks and yeah this was just after it got done! Lights are in, insulation is coming soon. Garage was 8 door was 2 and slab I did with two buddies and was 2 as well
I"m assuming you had the concrete pad poured first. How did you figure the size of the pad to pour, and how much did that cost? What about during the summer, the heat in the garage?
I ordered a building from these guys recently and mine is 22x26 so they told me the pad has to be 3" longer on each side. The length will be one foot shorter than the roof length. So my pad needs to be 22' 3" x 25' 3" Hope that helps.
Hey, buddy great vid im checking out my choices right now. Moving to Michigan myself from Florida and def need a garage for my car!! Its been 3 years since your video How do you rate the garage still?? Holding up good?? you still Happy?
waooo really nice been looking to add a garage to our home and been looking this metal garage and im sold didnt think it can look good bit sure it can im plannig to put my tools my plow away and work on cars or our cars at home when need to too instead waiting on rain to stop or snow.. this is great purchase... now can you run like box or breaker boc or electricity so to add a air compressosr and or have electri tool running? .. nice vehicle us have there with that clean garage. take care now
How do you like the compressor? was thinking of getting that one or the 8 gallon horizontal looking to use it at our camp to build a cabin with a frame nailer and maybe doing some raptor bed lining for on the roof of our camper.
What size is that garage door?? or. What measurements did you give for the Frame Out?? I'm about to get a 24 x 25 just like that. I like the one big door idea.
hey did you have to pull any permits to get this put up? and also what gauge steel did you go with on the tubing and framing 14 gauge or 12? i think 14 is standard thanks
I was thinking about metal 24x36 garage as well. I was just wondering how is it with the snow? Does the roof hold the weight of all the snow? I'm worried about the roof collapsing. I'm in Wisconsin
CJ Reed thanks! And no other option it only goes higher up from there and I didn’t want my garage 100 feet behind my house but it hasn’t been bad it’s worked well
Do you know if they offer financing on these types of buildings? Just purchased my first house and need somewhere to keep all my toys and tools but don’t have 8k laying around lol
Could you say how much the concrete foundation cost? I am in Wisconsin about half and hour from Lake Michigan. I would like to build a workshop / garage. I have a Silverado 2500HD diesel, which I want to work on, along with other vehicles. I would like to have an in-ground car lift or a 2-post also.
BrewPub mine was cheap because I had some friends in the business and help it was only 2k. It’s 4” thick but if you wanna do a lift it would be more because you’d have to do thicker concrete and what not
Did you order it with that door then have a company install the opener? I am here in Michigan too and dont see the 18x8 option for a regular type garage door.
Thank you for the video. I'm in the process of locating a company to build one of these for me and your video helped understanding the process a bit better. Can I ask, how was the humidity over the last few months? I'm in Ohio and that's one of my biggest worries.
Casa De Leones no problem! And it gets a little warm for sure since it’s all metal and the sun bakes on it but not to bad with the doors and windows open
Get some spray foam and shoot the whole ceiling and walls. Can usually be purchased from a home improvement store for a fair price. That will cut down o the noise and insulate as a bonus.
I like it alot.I might get one exactly like yours in the near future. How big did you make your concrete slab?about 6 inches extra to the sides?24 1/2×25 1/2?
Kenneth Hodge holding up great! No leaks or issues anywhere. Only cons would be it’s a little loud in there when it rains and windy but other than that I’m really happy
@coffey's garage do you not get water under the metal when it rains from rain hitting that cement lift around the edge? I do get some because eagle's advertiser told me that they were recommending to go a ft wider and larger than the building with the slab SMDH.
mitch david I don’t because I put the lexel silicone around the inside and outside so it stays out! And yeah wanted me to go 6” wider all the way around
Hey Man great video!!!and GO BLUE!But any who what size is your slab you may have said the size but not sure?I just subscribed to your channel thanks for the Great Video
Super nice garage man. I’m looking to go the same route. I noticed you have the asphalt done after the garage was built. If you don’t mind me asking how much was that asphalt work? And how much did it cost you to have the pad poured?
Kevin Rivera thank you! And yeah I waited because I wanted it to be fresh and not get missed up from the heavy trucks. Asphalt was just over 8k. And pad was 2k did most myself besides pouring
