-Oh hello, colonel Volgin, I defected, so I brought you some presents: Some nuclear missiles and Shagohod model kit. -YES OMG BOSS HOW DID YOU KNOW!!!!!!oneoneone K gotta go kuwabarakuwabara *runs away holding the model kit in the air*
@@mrorlov2706 Yeah, physically it wouldn't make sense. Also something to note, Auger-based machinery will tear up the ground. It moves but it destroys the environment.
I really love this picture. The various original mecha in this franchise tend to share a particular trait. That trait is that they are military hardware, presumably designed to participate on actual battlefields. However, we never get to see them in use as proper military assets aside from MG Ray. That comes down to the fact that we destroy them when they're just unique prototypes. So it's nice when you come across art like this that gives you a glimpse of what something like the Shagohod would look like out on the field with other units.
Maybe Kojima was inspired by the story of the Maus, a superheavy wunderwaffen, but never saw combat outside of one prototype defending the factory it was made in. Remarkably similar to the story of metal gear
@@NiCoNiCoNiCola I'm pretty sure that the Shagohod was designed as a deterrent. Equip insurgent armies with one and nobody would even dare to attack. Although it shares its impracticalities with Arsenal Gear. Just destroy any runway in the vicinity of one.
Fun fact : at the leff of the Shagohod you can see 2 objects 279. Those were prototype of soviet heavy tanks designed to work in a nuclear war (i mean in region were a nuke would have exploded the radiation wouldn't poison the crew). Whomever did this was well awere of the subject of nuclear warfare in the soviet union
Koji Shinkawa Knows a lot about weapons and army hardware... Kojima allegedly says that in his Twitter that he want a .45 Original Colt M1911 Custom.. Like the one Big Boss receives from EVA.
I remember at elementary school me and a friend drawing our armies on paper to compare them, we drew alot of soldier planes and tanks., But when i drew the Shagohod my classmate said: Oh shit! i surrender.
This fight is one of my most memorable moments in gaming for me. I spent maybe half an hour fruitlessly spamming all of my weapons at volgin not knowing how to stun him in the first phase of the fight. Suddenly, I remembered shooting the treads in the Gronzyj Grad chase sequence to slow him down and it finally clicked. I said “wait a minute, the treads...” aloud, fired a rocket at the treads, to which Volgin screamed with his own “THE TREADS!!!”. I started cackling like a madman with the dumbest grin on my face. One of the best “aha” moments in a video game for me: Snake Eater is truly a masterpiece and probably my favorite game of all time.
Something similar to what you mentioned happened to me, it took me approximately more than 40 minutes to defeat the shagohood for that very reason. The difference is that I never knew you could do that shooting the treads until I saw it on a video. Although now if I know that I won't do it the next time I play Metal Gear Solid 3 because I feel that in this way it took away the epic and intense nature of this combat.
"Who's afraid of a little lighting? I mean it's not like I'm standing on a large metal surface with a current of electricity flowing though my bo-hfdksjlfknhdjsdtjfckmlnfjs!!!!!"
The problem with that line, which I assume is a hiimdaisy quote, is that having electricity coursing through his body would lower the potential difference between the static energy in the sky and himself, making a lightning strike less likely. I think
I think perhaps the most terrifying thing about the Shagohod is that despite it's immense destructive front line capacity, it doesn't need to be anywhere near the battlefield to kill you, the ball at the top is a radar system and the big tubular thing is an *ATOMIC BOMB CANNON*.
Wich is what Metal Gear Rex and Peace Walker were (or, in this case, will be) all about: being able to cause mass destruction and death from anywhere in the world.
@@evatroniclover0026 sort of, metal gears are defined as "being nuclear capable, firing warheads from their rail gun, eliminating the need for a missile, or launchpad allowing them to attack targets from anywhere in the world, on any kind of terrain." with a few exceptions. RAY was specifically designed to take out other Metal Gears, Gekkos are considered Metal Gears because they still fufill Granin's original vision of bipedal weaponry, and the Mk. II and III are only considered Metal Gears because Otacon wanted a way to never forget that he was the one who built REX.
You all notice? The beat has a trance beat like Volgin's theme, there are Egyptian parts like The Fear's theme, a high pitched orchestra hit like a part of The End's dying song. Darker orchestra parts from The Fury's theme, a sound from Ocelot's battle theme, one part has opera in the background like The Sorrow's them and one part has almost the exact same notes as The Pain's theme! This battle theme is brilliant!
I really liked the Shagahod design. And the whole runway system that it uses to discharge it's warheads. The whole advanced technology with limitations concept.
All the shagohod needed is a vast runway or airstrip so it can adjust to any direction it wants to launch the nuke, simply a single straight runway will just limit its direction capability
Of course the problem with the Shagohod is that it would never work in real life, and second you can do the same thing with a submarine as you can with the Shagohad but for a lot less money. The one advantage it has is that it's good for aggressive posturing "I have this big ass weapon and I'm not afraid to use it."
@@ianfinrir8724 If you look at the time frame, it does work. The first proper ballistic missle submarines launched around the time MGS3 took place. The soviet subs coming into service were launching these missles. R11 - 170km range R13 - 600km R21 - 1.300km The Shagohod is supposed to carry an SS-20, though it should be an SS4 or SS5. Shagohod would launch modified versions of these missiles from pretty much anywhere and by providing an additional booster phase turning them into defacto ICBMs increasing the range to probably around 8000 km. Additionally enabling to launch a warhead 50% heavier than any submarine at the time was able to. But the danger was that due to the modified way of launch and changed IR signature many early warning systems wouldn´t recognize the launch as such nor could you surveille every possible launching point in more direct means. As the system was supposed to be mass produced you could start a first strike which would only be noticed once it was to late. The major problem is that the Missiles would hit jack shit due to guidance systems needed a fixed start point and Shagohod isn´t boosting the missles fast enough either
@therac197 technically you could also add that NATO was much better at detecting soviet subs at the time so it'd make sense they'd want an alternative to make use of their proximity to America in the east. Place one of these near Alaska and it could probably hit most of the US.
So damn good. That surfer esque classic guitar with the electric genre sounding drums, jazzy riffs, and orchestration is just an outstanding thing to experience. Those trumpets lol wow.
if you timed the music guitar solo with the rocket shooting in the air, and using the Stoner, you will hear Snake's scream with the solo and it is so good. 0:48
One cool thing about this is that i played on european extreme difficulty so risking being discovered for using fire weapons was out of the question, besides i wanted the stealth camo for my second run so no point using them anyway but in this battle i can't see anybody not using them because of the missiles and the shagohod only being stunned by rpg rockets, it was a cool detail to use that big machine gun snake fires while screaming to take down those missiles, felt soo rewarding to finally being able to lash out.
Guys I'm definitely a liberal but, What, they could see me while I was running? Bullshit! Now I'm dead. I guess you just have to know that if the enemy soldiers in this stealth game see you they shoot you and you die when you lose all your health *snort* *ah ah ah ah*. Fucking Kojima.
in the first chase scene when you are on the airfield with the shagohod and you damage it it will carry this damage on to the next battle. this is next level attention to detail in ps2 times what we slowly get today . that is a fully developed game for you all :D and to give something else upon that : Calorie Mate exists , in 5 flavours and is damn tasty
whoah, one of the most epic battles ever, and the song really delivers, this piece DEFINITELY needed to be longer, i thought about 4-5 minutes, but 15 minutes, hell yeah! 1/4 hour of full epicness, thanks pal! :)
My childhood, I remeber I was play this when I was 7 years old and this music with the epic battle with the shagohod and using the rpg 7 was so satisfying 🔥🔥😎
The Shagohod can walk, or at least crawl, but if you want to be metaphorical about it then it's a "big step" towards reshaping the balance of power on a global scale.
Mother Russia's shagohod. Great theme gets u hyped when trying to decimate it. Watch out snake for the shagohod treads. Eva get to safety i got this. No snake we do this together. What an unbeatable team for and unbelievable game. Hands down my favorite.
