I sincerely hope you guys give MGS3 a shot, be it Delta, the original, or whatever. MGS3 is one of the greatest games ever made, it's also a love letter to James Bond, man, the game is perfect. The Delta remake should make things a little easier by adding some mechanics from MGSV, so if you want to try one of them, I'd probably wait for the remake. Plus, it's such a good introduction to the franchise as a whole. Big recc

I feel like there's a difference between playing a game more focused on stealth and playing a game that has forced stealth sections in them. Games like Metal Gear give you the necessary tools to pull off a stealth mission, but if you do get caught, you have ways of getting out of it. Metal Gear even has some action moments that are pretty good. So while Stealth isn't the ENTIRE gameplay, it does help to know how the game should be played and get better at it. That's not to say the action moments of Metal Gear are all guns blazing type of stuff. You still need tactical thinking to defeat certain enemies. Games with forced stealth sections though. If I'm playing a game like Far Cry 5, Red Dead 2, or the more recent Spiderman games. I just want to defeat the enemies in front of me without having to worry about failing the mission because I was in the enemies line of sight for too long. Action games that have stealth sections in them, usually don't give you the necessary tools to complete the job. And you're more or less at the mercy of the AI and having to figure out how it works with repeated trial and error. This can also be the case for Stealth focused games as well, but the learning curve is more tolerable there than it is in other games where it's not the main focus. I would say to play the Metal Gear games just because it's a different experience playing a game than watching it. But since I've already seen how you two dealt with stealth gameplay, yeah, probably better to just watch the cutscenes. Which is good, because the Metal Gear games might as well be movies in video game format. A lot of people hate Metal Gear for being too cinematic with not enough gameplay, but those that stuck with the series have gotten used to the format and enjoy Metal Gear's storytelling.

As a fan of MGS since the first moment I played it (MGS 1998) I was 8 years old fall in love with the games. I played all of Hideo Kojima games. I can tell you one thing, there is enough gameplay in those games to enjoy the cinematic as well.

You make a good point about the forced gameplay and getting spotted on a mission and having that lose the mission. Those are always frustrating 😝

The problem with stealth sections in games that are not entirely designed around being stealthy is that they're often rather lacking. The game often isn't built for it, the characters don't have the tools to make it work, it sometimes feels forced and rough. Metal Gear games are ALL about stealth, and whilst you can go loud on occasion, it's ultimately about avoiding combat and maneuvering around enemies that makes the games work, the options you have to do so are plentiful and the levels are designed to allow you the freedom to find alternate paths to your objectives. Also, whilst watching the cutscenes for a MGS game is an option (and trust me, these games *love* their cutscenes), I honestly wouldn't recommend it. Metal Gear games are built different than most. Hideo Kojima (the lead creator of most MGS games) is a mad genius, who regularly forces players to use outside-the-box thinking to come up with solutions to problems. He puts crazy levels of detail into almost every aspect of each game, there are so many hidden secrets and subtle details that you only get by playing he games that it would almost be a disservice to just watch the cutscenes and nothing else. As an example; in each game the player can use a radio to call up mission support personnel and talk about various things with each of them. There are dozens, if not hundreds of hours of dialogue of just these conversations, and many of them only trigger if you're under certain conditions, like hiding in a cardboard box, or in the middle of an gunfight. There are enemies who can read your memory cards and talk about other games you've played during fights, alternate ways to beat various bosses that can trigger different cutscenes. The level of detail and worldbuilding is actually kind of nuts. You'd miss all of this by just watching the story cutscenes. MGS 3 Snake Eater (which Delta is a remake of), is probably the best in the series and really is something best experienced firsthand.

Whoever Konami let remake this game i trust a hell of a lot more than blueber on the SH2 remake. Not only do they seem to get it, but the audio for dialogue is literally the master of the original versions in this trailer so theyre clearly doing a one to one remake but most likely woth some updated systems, possibly from the looks of it some similar to the fluidity of Phantom Pain's combat and syealth mechanics. The game is legitimately one of the best even with its goofier metal gear moments and has made grown men cry by the end.

When you play this game. It'll be your very first experience of the franchise. The stealth here is very challenging, and have to rely on your surroundings. This game has a camouflage system. Where you need to blend in the jungles surroundings. Even though is a remake of the third game. You don't have to worry about the story, cause it's a prequel to the rest of the series. It'll explain everything how it all started. Konami just released the MGS collection last year, if you want to play the entire games.

Great reactions as always! But don't assume this will be like stealth sections in other games that end with a game over if you are spotted. The stealth gameplay in Metal Gear Solid will not ever penalize you that way for getting spotted (unless you are playing on the highest difficulty). In fact, getting spotted is half the fun of a Metal Gear Solid game because the shift in the gameplay loop means you have to adapt and improvise to what is happening at the moment. 😎 Do you eliminate all enemies and deplete your ammo? Do you evade them and hide long enough for them to give up searching for you? Do you set traps for them to trigger as they are pursuing or even patrolling normally? You have options for dealing with enemies here. And that's not even touching on the potential of eliminating them non-lethally, which often has bonus incentive and rewards for a playthrough. Seriously, don't feel so anxious about stealth in Metal Gear. It's hard to enjoy the game without getting spotted and hearing the iconic "!" sound and having to improvise and adapt to the situation. Give this one a shot! It's easily the most accessible one story-wise since it's the prequel game in the entire Metal Gear series. I think you'll find a lot to love! 🤓

Yeah this. MGS games are fun but it takes a lot of tries to get perfect stealth, especially on higher difficulties. Sometimes multiple playthroughs so you can memorise areas is needed and luckily any areas that force you into alert mode won't count against perfect stealth.

i say give stealth a try. Metal Gear and Dishonored are more forgiving then you think. If your seen you can run or brute force your way. Half the fun is seeing just how different both methods can get. Guarantee you'll at least get a chuckle out of the aspects that change due to your actions

And as @legendofliamd in the comments mentionned, you could watch Chipmunkuchan's video to recap the story (but even that video is like an hour and a half lmao. Probably can't go shorter than that to do the games justice though, the MGS story is... dense to say the least lol)

@@BurntBattleBagel I haven't shitted on MGR because I like it a lot but the take on it not being canon is because Kojima himself said that he only considered the games he directed as canon for the saga. Has that anything to do with imaginaction? Did I deserve to be insulted? You should ask yourself those questions as I bet an apology is far of reach to you.

Honestly, even if you're not a fan of stealth games, I still recommend playing Metal Gear just for the immense and amazing story. Y'all can play them on the easiest difficulty just to experience the story. A lot of the games are very forgiving for the most part with how the enemy AIs work on easy. But they are pretty advanced compared to other games' AI, so that's something to watch for. Still, though, overall, they're massively fun, and they have a lot of story cutscenes, a lot of them having some fun and memorable moments I'm sure both of you would enjoy.
