+Stikfa Reaper Yeah if I was Skull Face I'd be pissed at that guy. "What the...?! Turn that fucking radio down, I'm vilaining back here, damnit!!".OR...Skull Face sees it's awkward, and is trying to think of how to handle it. He could jump the drivers shit over it, but then if he shows Snake his temper, maybe Snake would start crying and refuse to get out of the car when they get to the hangar. Skull Face thinks: "Yeah, he's nervous enough already. Dude hasn't said a word since we got in this car. If I lash out at my helpers now, he'd probably faint and then who am I gonna talk to?".You know, Skull Face is that guy that says everything's cool when your kid accidentally breaks a plank in his privacy fence, but as soon as you're back in your house he's in his basement working a punching bag and calling it you. The temper is there, but you won't see it... yet.
true big boss conversation SF: i was born in a small village BB: a small village? SF: I was still a child when we were raided by soldiers BB: soldiers? SF:foreign soldiers BB: foreign soldiers? And so on and so forth
This scene was ruined when I saw a tweet. "Skull Face practiced his speech about language for Big Boss for 9 years and told it to the wrong person who didn't even care."
Skull Face: *shakes Snake violently* "SAY SOMETHING. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, RESPOND TO WHAT I AM SAYING. PLEASE. AT LEAST A FUCKING NOD!" Snake: "Kept you waiting, huh?" Skull Face: *squints* "I've wasted ten years of my life for this."
+Gato Negro Good idea, but the fact that Snake just fidgets in his seat like he's really disinterested in everything that is going on seems kind of odd, like looking off into the distance and generally not looking like he is even paying attention. Still, 'tone of voice' can only come across when words escape lips.
The part where skull face is showing Snake his open container of parasites, wouldn't it be funny if the jeep hit a big bump causing him to lose the container smashing it on the ground and getting run over by the jeep behind them.
@@cognition5133 watching skull face, mission 45 was harder than extreme sahelathropus. Although with the parasite suit armor and Fulton extractions you can absouletly cheese mission 45
@@joshgroban5291 took me a few days to try cuz I was lazy and didn't want to change my equipment, i planted like 5 c4s to destroy their armor and just shot them with the double barrel
@@joshualittlewolfe8550 Played the cutscene for the first time at night, only for the song to end and 6:00 AM hit when we reached Serrak Power Plant. Feels so badass.
Wait... we have a cutscene in a Metal Gear Solid game were Snake DOESN'T repeat the last word of whatever the other person said but as a question? WHAT BASS-ACKWARDS WORLD IS THIS?!!
All throughout this speech I was thinking "I can throw a grenade to the truck behind us, knock out the guards in truck and drag skull face away before the guys up front can catch us. Fulton him out then call a chopper."
Fuck haters, I really like this Sins Of The Father moment. I mean, when those two, worst enemies, are watching at each other, and this THE SIIIIIIIINS NEVER DIES plays, gives me chills.
MarsShadow Skull Face's face is scary and is badly burnt, anyone in his position wouldn't want to directly look him in the eye, if anything I find it completely logical for him not feeling comfortable being there with him
You know what Kojima should've added to this scene? Skull Face should've carried a small wooden box containing two cigars; one for himself and another for Venom as an ironic "gesture of respect" (as he still thinks Venom is Big Boss himself). Both of them smoke their cigars while the song plays on the background (would've actually been badass). And then, after the Sahelanthropus fight when Skull Face dies slowly beneath the rubble, he's surrounded by a pool of gasoline. Venom lights the unfinished stub of cigar he was given, takes a long puff and as he exhales the smoke, throws it on Skull Face who suddenly is set on fire. The man suffers the same fate when he was a child, but this time he'll die a slow and agonizing death. And thus Venom/Big Boss finally becomes "a demon" he was always hinted to be.
That same philosopher (Emil Cioran) said this as well: "Revenge is not always sweet, once it is consummated we feel inferior to our victim." So, if Achmed (Jeff Dunham Reference) here was truly a man of literature, he would have known that if he takes revenge on Zero, it would not end well for him.
He did end up getting away with it somewhat through using the parasites to cripple zero using a fake pin badge and turn him into a vegetable relieing on life support to live.
I absolutely *love* non-cinematic, one-way conversation with long, awkward pauses in between segments of Skull Face's monologue. Big Boss had the absolute best lines by far, though. It would have been really cool if you could get another 1 minute long cassette tape *after* that showcases Big Boss' thoughts. Or, Kaz could say every line for him, and then Big Boss could say "Yeah...I guess...." again.
"Hey man you gonna say something about my evil plan?" "...." "I mean, it's pretty genius right? No more English! AH HA HA HA!" "..." *checks iDroid* "H-hey, c'mon man I spent over 9 years planning for this!" "..." "Say something" "......" "Please" "......" "......." "......" ".......uh...." *Switches on radio* "LET YOUR WORLD FEAR US ALL!" Fuck this scene.
+Ruby Rose *Music ends* Snake: ... Skufface: ...Still nothing? Snake: *Puts NVG on and off multiple times* Skullface: ....This is the last time i'm car pooling with you ever again...
LOL guys it's cause he's supposed to be YOU ha ha, what a great recycled twist from MGS2 eh? They could have made Venom Solidus and it would have ended great but nope. Have an unfinished game.
1:25 Skullface: "a philosopher once said 'It is no nation we inhabit, but a language.'" Venom Snake: (Looks at camera) "Sheesh! You hearing this shit too?"
Despite the criticism shown here, I think Skull Face had plans that reflects off indigenous sufferage, making this scene very relevant & contempoary. Many tribes in rural US & indigenous communities are vocally displaying their distain over the loss of native tounge. Much less the impact it's receiving from overwhelmed economic incentives & unilateralism from English usage. Each tribe often dreams or fantasizes over some "blaze of glory" way of retaliation against governments enforcing this status quo. It touches on sociology & anthropology to the point that Skull Face is a martyr for his Hungarian roots and is acting on his blaze of glory moment. A mutagent lasts decades when fully used, so killing all those speaking English is an attempt to change that status quo. Written English would be recessed if a vector killing strain of English existed 24/7.
It's honestly a cool idea for a villain motivation. Sadly, it comes right before he dies and pretty much only comes up right here. You don't find out any more about the man except for the briefing tapes you unlock at the end of the story missions, at which point Skullface has been dead for hours at that point and it doesn't matter much at that point.
I do like some of the ideas behind Skull Face's character. The concept of wanting to eradicate a whole language is interesting but utterly ridiculous and grandiose in it's execution, which is often the charm behind Kojima's storytelling. I think this scene would have worked a lot better if it was shortened, the song was removed, and Venom actually spoke instead of just sitting there like a plank. MGS1 had amazing conversations between Snake and his enemies so this feels like a missed opportunity to me. They must have been paying Kiefer 10 grand a line or something.
It wasn't until like my 5th viewing that I realized Skull Face's vision of the future becomes Big Boss' plan for Outer Heaven. Uniting the world through war and nuclear deterrence, "a language of nukes." Now I finally understand why Skull Face's phantom is with Venom in the final cutscene. Because with Sahelanthropus, Venom (and Big Boss) will fulfill his will.
true. think about it for a second. what is the source of amerikkka's power? their language. whitout their language they could never communicate their oppresive ideas and evil rule.
This has to be the most awkward cutscene in the entire video game history. 5 minutes of a guy talking on the other person who never responds during a car ride, then soul music just starts playing for a few minutes of silence.
Fuck, I don't care how awkward that silent stare was, that song is so awesome, at 6:35, I even remember in my game, it was turning to morning, so when ha art started, the sun shone through the area. It was so memorable I love this game
whats funny but kinda fucked up about Skullface is it's heavily implied the entire reason he forgot his language was he stopped speaking it seemingly not realizing how useful knowing his mother tongue would be. It's kinda implied he decided to join the Allies against the nazis. It's implied the main reason he lost his language was due to his drive for power. He didn't think to keep his mother tongue as he was too busy working to make himself more then his homeland every was. Hungarian was a safe language to speak in the USSR and most likely in the west as well. Everything points to Skullface being a fool and not practicing his mother tongue.
They should have done a proper cutscene instead of doing the driving simulator thing they did. It was a cool scene, but I prefer the classic MGS cutscene style.
+darkmay200 the ladder climb had more personality to it than this one. you fucking had Venom just doing his IDLE animation the whole time which took away from this scene, it was obvious that konami rushed Kojipro.
This cut-scene is a lot better if you imagine that the soldiers driving the car, turned the radio on because they were annoyed with Skullface's rant too.
i don’t care what anyone says, Venoms silence speaks volumes to me. what the hell does he have to say to this son of a bitch of a villain. after everything he did, i too would have nothing to say to him
Maybe its just artistic direction or whatever Or suspension of disbelief But all i can think os that kojima has never riden in a jeep off road Let alone try and fucking talk while doing so
When the music blasts and these two guys stare awkwardly at each other I'm half expecting Skullface to ask Big Boss to sit on his lap and give him a kiss
I might get a lot of flack for saying this but I honestly like Sins of the Father playing after Skull Face reveals his plan more than Snake Eater playing during the latter climb in MGS 3
+mooganify Honestly, this is the only line I found cringeworthy here. The whole scene sure is cheesy as fuck, but I thought MGS was always about that cheese. And I like my cheese bruh.
+PlagueDr420 Yeah I was just making a joke, I didn't really hate this scene like others do. But I always did think that something about Skull Face's voice seemed a little off, when I first saw him I pictured it being like a raspy voice or something. But nice profile pic tho!
You know his plan kinda made sense to me up until the language part. Start a new Cold War and corner nuclear weapon market with DIY nukes to which Skull Face secretly holds all the remote controls to, forcing world peace through nuclear deterrence. I understood that. It was fucked up, but it kinda made sense. But then he was like "oh, and also I'm going to kill all English speakers throughout the world" and I was like "Wait, what, why, that doesn't really benefit anyone in any way at all"
Yeah and then he was like "AND WE'LL REPLACE ENGLISH WITH THE LANGUAGE OF NUKES!". Like. What. How are you gonna order a coffee then??? with a fuckin nuke??
@@tovbyte its a metaphor, english would no longer be the dominant language (and by extension cultures + power structures built upon english would cease to exist, in context of the game the patriots for example) and rather than the current western dominated world order, it would be replaced by one of smaller cultures coexisting with the mutual "language" of nuclear deterrence, you have to know skull faces backstory for other parts of the english strain plot piece to work too
Skull Face want to destroy cipher and its grasp on the world. Destroying english and so the language of the codes ciper is using is his solution. Its like using a shotgun to kill a mosquito, it works yeah but its the very loud way you see.
After the outbreak of COVID19 and i saw how american people responded it, i can imagine if English Strain Parasite is released. Anyway, 239 million people speak english In America and most of them are monolingual. so watch out for KAREN who shouts 'this is america, speak english'
That moment, when he ended his speech and "The Sins Of The Father" playing, and you facing the madman in face to face speechless. This is a relay point in the game, where it all comes up to. I think this is one of the most best moments in game.
To me this felt like a revelation of what venom snakes motives were in metal gear 1. The scene where skull face dissappears behind venom snake made it seem like a part of skull face had planted itself into him. So when the music came it didnt feel as awkward to me as other people say it was.
The scene is actually really well made, except the use of Sins of the Father. Its just really akward how they stare at each other while the music plays. The lyrics are actually fitting great though!
@@JohnDoe-ew2wu Skull face is venom snake, they have same scars on right side of the head Metal gear 5 trailer also shows venom snake turning into skull face, the strange atmosphere in every cutscene of skullface and how he always appears outta nowhere, but most importantly how psycho mantis is always present in all his cutscenes The jeep ride represents nothing more than him talking with or rather thinking with himself, that's why venom snake doesn't say anything he's his alter personality Venom snake burned in the helicopter crash of mgsv ground zeroes and woke up in the hospital as skullface, cipher was the one that attacked msf and the hospital, XOF is diamond dogs/FOX unit, there are diamond dogs containers and pilots in OKB zero base ??? We can't ignore all the signs.
@@JohnDoe-ew2wu Besides, skullface/venom snake reason to hate zero was because he knew that zero was behind the plan to make him big boss's phantom, that's why he also says "I hold him responsible for killing my freedom, killing all traces of my past, killing any promise of a future" Skull face can be seen escaping the car during the sahalanthropus mission cutscene, he never died, when you attempt to shoot him you simply can't Psycho mantis is present in the helicopter after skullface "death" and we all know how well can psycho mantis create illusions.
