It's actually a Hymn written 100 years before Gospel music would ever become a thing. And the man who wrote it wasn't a nice man, he was a slaver, deserter, foul mouthed well beyond sailor's standards (and that is saying something), and incited mutiny against his captains.

WOW!! My sister was brutally murdered on her 52nd birthday in 2021! She loved Amazing Grace and the way you sang this made me cry and smile. All day long I've been thinking about her and it might sound silly, but I asked her to please send me a sign that she's at peace now. 10 minutes later I open up RU-vid and this was already playing. This was truly amazing. My dad has had cancer for about 3 months and us just about to start chemo. These days have been really hard and challenging. Today, I just wanted it all to end a give up. My mom was diagnosed with cancer when I was 19, so I know how rough it can be. No matter how hard life gets, the rough times and extreme grief don't last forever, even though it seems like it will and the pain seems unbearable at times. Never give up. It's been my favorite song since I was a child. I live alone and almost 69. and it's hard to process grief when you don't have anyone around to help Thank you so much! for what you do. Beautiful! I've socially isolated myself. Have you ever heard of "Trey Smith"? He was great friends with "Kim Clement"! His mother was told she had 3 months to live cancer, it had spread through her body but sje refused tp to accept this. So she put up quotes from Bible and placed them around her home. She also read scriptures from the Bible, she'd say. "GOD MADE ME PERFECT, I AM HEALED, I AM PERFECT JUST AS GOD MADE ME"!!! When she went back to the hospital she found all traces of the cancer were gone. You see when you hold on to pain, suffering the loss of your dear children or anything else, it makes your body sick also.. One must forgive and love oneself and let go of the pain the suffering your going through. Death is not the end it is only the beginning because the soul lives forever.. No one truly dies, they just transform into energy... These things are gifts for the soul, the good the bad and darn right horrific.. But these things are done through you not to to.. God is in you as you are in him, this body is but a vessel to learn what it is like to be human... If one has never suffered known pain how can one have compassion, mercy, sympathy etc for anyone else? Sad but we humans don't seek God except in times of trouble for the most part.. it is only when we suffer do we seek him... I'm so sorry for the great loss you've suffered, there are no words that can express my deep sorrow for it.. But God loves you sooooo much he is waiting... One must ask to receive, ask him to help you through this and he will do so.. When one holds on to pain it comes out in sickness. Father please I beg you to help this beautiful soul to be whole again to be healthy again... I AM . ❤️

At 77 years old, I resemble that remark. lol I am of the Elvis and Beatles generation. We can actually hear Dan’s awesome voice. Much of the heavy metal is overpowered by the guitars. Dan’s simple black background makes it possible to see the emotion he pours into every song. And the glimpses of his personality in the outros show what a kind, caring and funny guy he is.

Try O Holy Night but don’t be shocked by his metal growl, lol. Some people get scared by it but I love it. It’s just a metal growl. He also did Adeste Fideles which you probably know as O Come All Ye Faithful. He also has Angels We Have Heard On High, Beyond Belief, For All, Joy (The News Boys version), You Are Loved/Don’t Give Up (Josh Groban cover).

This is Grandma from Texas. I’m speechless. I have been a Christian since I was 16 years old. I am nearly 70 now. I have heard this song more times than I can count. I have heard it sung by the best through the years. I am thinking that you are the one who got it right, really right. I imagine that all the Angels in Heaven stop,,, and hush when you lift your voice and praise God with this precious old hymn. I found your rendition a couple of weeks ago for the first time. I purchased it and listen to it repeatedly. I prefer watching you perform it on RU-vid because the emotion you bring is so real and so touching that it makes me weep every single time. I am a 66 yr old with an incurable Follicular Lymphoma stage 4 cancer. I am a fighter and don’t look at my diagnosis as an end but something I need to conquer. I just lost my husband suddenly after 53 1/2 years of what everyone called the best marriage they had ever seen. When I heard you singing Amazing Grace I knew it was going to be the first song at his service which will be next Tuesday August 1, 2023. I was in THAT spot that you know well when The Chosen came on my feed and I ended up binge watching and then throwing myself to the ground to give it up to God. My father passed away Tuesday night, for days I've been dealing with the hurt and loss. On the day I'm getting ready to go to his Wake and his Funeral tomorrow this showed up in my feed because I love your work and admire how amazing your voice is. THIS gave me so much comfort. My Grandfather used to tell me that the Bible spoke of a song that would be so beautiful that not even the angels in heaven could sing, I have often wondered if Amazing Grace were that song. Certainly the angelic beings would need no salvation so they couldn't rightfully sing this praise to God, only mortal man. This is one of the most beautiful renditions I've ever heard.

Dan, my 47 yr old Firefighter son died in August of colon cancer, now considered a Firefighter hazard. He had a full Firefighter's service. We lost our daughter last year and I still talk to God daily but without as much enthusiasm. When I heard you sing this it brought me to tears because I remembered that I needed to be grateful for everything and shout to the Lord Thank you 🙏 This song was meant to be sung by you just the way you did it.(like a wake up call) I love to listen to it and pass it on to others that are struggling. I lost my husband last year and I sang this at the cemetery. Lately I have been viewing this song, like saying the Pledge of Allegiance everyday at school. It had started to be something I had to do. Not wanting to do, anymore. It didn't have any feelings anymore. But after hearing him sing this song, I regained the emotions and feelings and true meanings behind this song.

I've heard this sung many ways and heard it in church all my life. This is hands down the way I realize it was meant to be sung - with the sound of triumph. Oddly, I agree with you and feel this is the feeling and message John Newton meant to convey.

Wonderful rendition. I listen (and sing, though poorly) to this song n many forms over the years in honor of the best Christian I ever knew, my beloved maternal grandmother. She's been gone since 1977, but Granny, I still love and miss you.
