Mission 4's really cute, mainly because it introduces fat mode to the series. But as with the Slug Flyer, the debut of Fat Mode is riddled with bugs. The autofire mechanics of the Heavy Machine Gun (a.k.a. 95% of the reason you'd USE a Heavy Machine Gun) is bugged up, requiring you mash the A Button faster to sustain the same rate of fire. And it doesn't arc... genius. Also it might just be me, but the running and firing animation for fat mode seem buggy to me. And the Rocket Launcher... THE ROCKET LAUNCHER. It's so bad, it's not even funny! It doesn't have a good turning radius, causing it to encircle enemies instead of HITTING enemies. And with the 2 shots per screen limit, that leaves you a sitting duck most of the time there are rockets onscreen. I'm almost glad that these were the only two weapons you could fire without cheating in the game; who knows how else they'd screw up the other weapons. I realise that fat mode is supposed to be comedic, but there needs to be a line drawn between "comedy" and "getting your ass killed dead because you were fat". Yeah, reduced running speeds? Swell, I can get behind that. Me being unable to fire because my rockets are flying aimlessly onscreen? NOPE. NOOOOOOOPE.
Also, we finally get the Metal Slug tank in the game... about damn time. Also, the Armour Piercer. THE ARMOUR PIERCER! Have I made it clear enough how much I love the Armour Piercer? (Ignore the fact that I got my Slug blown up to make my point seem more valid please?)
