Just a small disclaimer for this video: The video he’s watching freezes on the screen for a little over a minute. It never froze while he was actually watching it, but it did during the mixing process for some reason. We think we have this issue resolved on future videos, but we couldn’t do anything about this one. I still think it’s a great reaction and hope you do too. 🤘

Michael Kamen had a huge part in the orchestral arrangement for this concert. It was planned for a long time. I think he was integral in the writing of the 2 new tracks. I'm glad you did the original version.. way better than the new one.

Thank you. I looked for a few minutes before commenting to try to find out who was involved with the orchestral score. It explains why the score was written with enough metal 'character' to not just sound like someone stuck some Brahms in a metal song.

If you want to hear classical versions of Metallica songs, check out anything from Apocalyptica's self-titled first album. It's all Metallica covers performed by a couple of cellists, and they even manage to play the guitar solos note-for-note.

Metallica played “No Leaf Clover” in the concert at SoFi Stadium, I just went to last week in LA. It was a bit of a surprise, but I knew it was a possibility. They still got it!

Great reaction! My sister and nephew went to see them live when they did S&M2 and she said it was wild! The stage was just one step up from the front row of seats so everything was so much closer than you'd normally get and the people were dressed in everything from jeans and their Metallica t-shirts (like my sister & nephew) to men in formal tuxes and women in evening gowns dripping with jewelry like the people who sat next to my sis. Metallica also played this song the 2nd night when we saw them 8/20 in Arlington. The symphony bit was recorded so the band had to stay in sync with it which is no small feat when you're playing live. 🤘Rock On!🤘 Kelly

Man, Michael Kamen had such a great feel for writing orchestral pieces for rock/metal - 'No Leaf Clover' will always be a favorite of mine! Just a superb song, top to bottom, front to back.

I discovered Metallica in 1988 when I borrowed Ride The Lightning and was blown-away. Immediately from that day onwards, I have ALWAYS felt that there was a kind of silent orchestra playing behind them, like it had all been written with orchestra in-mind to begin-with. I suspect that may have begun with Cliff Burton's influence on their sound. S&M and S&M2 are awesome. MAJOR kudos to the arranger/conductor(s)

I remember when my cousin played Enter Sandman for me. At the time, my favorite band was The Beach Boys, so when I heard Enter Sandman, I was both terrified, and amazed. I had never heard music like that before, and I was hooked.

Right there with ya!! Ride The Lightning was the first album I ever heard from Metallica. I was about 13-14 yrs old. Once Fight Fire With Fire kicked in I was hooked !!🤘😤🤘

Thank you! Finally someone who thinks alike. Disclaimer: I am not even a Metallica fan, only ever heard a handful of their songs - the most popular ones - and people mostly seem to like "One" for some reason and pick it as seemingly the best. This is the one I've always liked the most, and especially the orchestral version, it is BEYOND, it is OVER AND ABOVE, MESMERIZING, a classic.

Righteous! 🤘🧙‍♂️🤘 Among his many other great achievements,. Maestro Kamen was known for arranging almost all orchestra parts for Pink Floyd after Atom Heart Mother. Absolute masters. The newer S&M2 also has a bass solo/tribute to Cliff that I highly recommend. 🤘🧙‍♂️🤘 Rich the Ancient Metal Beast

Please don't analyze and listen to ANYTHING off S&M2. It's Lars at his absolute worst. It's the pinnacle of his awful timing and tempo. As a lifelong fan of Lars, it's a devastating concert.

Live versions are so much harder to hear what’s going on. I’d always suggest listening to a studio version first and then the live version.

I have always felt that a lot of the metal genre was just a step away from classical music. the depth that so many songs have is stunning. Metallica specifically have orchestrated so much of their music from day one. To me, the guitars/bass literally sing. Cliff Burton's influence is definitely felt. It's interesting to me that there were several musicians at the time that had started to pull in classical styles into rock/metal (early 80s) that died untimely. Cliff being one and Randy Rhoads being another.

You guys are amazing. I love listening to Judson's impromptu piano performances before or after a reaction! Everyone has made so many great suggestions for things you should react to, but I haven't seen anyone recommend the following: "Army of the Night," by Powerwolf, "White Pearl, Black Oceans," by Sonata Arctica, or "Achilles: the Agony and the Ecstasy in Eight Parts," by Manowar!

This was my favorite song when i was 6 or 7. My sister knew I could play music by ear, so she made me isolate certain instruments in the song and play it on the piano. I did it, and tried to convince her that if she believed in herself she could play music by ear too 😂 "Jeanette, just listen to the song and find the notes. I just find them faster, it doesn't mean you cant do it!" This song always reminds me of that situation

Iced earth - dantes inferno live athens. One of my favorite live performances. Think also outlaw torn s&m is one of their best performances from that show. Guess James voice was at the peak there.

2nd song written for the that effort in 1999 was titled '- Human' [pronounced MInus Human] There were 104 symphony orchestra members, directed by Micheal Kamen S&M 2 was again with the San Fransisco Symphony (for some reason the word Orchestra was omitted this time) 20 years later. Micheal Kamen had passed in 2003. Edwin Outwater was the main director

S&M is amazing. I really love that they showed classical and metal do have a strong connection. And to see that everyone on that stage has so much fun. Cool stuff as always! If you are interested in same kind of collaboration but more extreme music you should check Septicflesh or Dimmu Borgir doing their live thing with choir and orchestra. As a drummer (mainly metal and extreme) I am always in awe of those players and how they keep the packet together. Thanks from very cold Finland! ❤

man i had to come to the home page to leave a request on the most recent vid... low and behold... yet another vid i wanna watch... love this song. I would be very interested to hear your thoughts on "g.o.a.t." by polyphia... or any polyphia for that matter... if you haven't already heard it. As a classical musician... you'd likely enjoy "the audacity" by polyphia. EDIT: my personal favorite song by polyphia is "bloodbath" featuring chino moreno of the deftones... They are an instrumental band that occasionally features vocalists.
