Metallica perform their "Mercyful Fate Medley" with four out of five original members of Mercyful Fate: King Diamond, Hank Shermann, Michael Denner and Time "Grabber" Hansen. Metallica originally recorded the medley for their 1998 covers collection "Garage Inc." in 1998. Recorded live @ The Fillmore in San Francisco, California on December 7th, 2011 (the second of four Metallica 30th birthday concerts).

I was at this particular night of the Met-30 and chatted a bit with the King afterwards. He was so happy and glad to be alive after his heart episodes. A very sincere moment. He was also a little bummed that Metallica tuned the band down a full step from the original E standard tuning. Made his sing differently. Listening now, he sounds pretty damn great, considering. Mercyful Fate rules ALL!

Fucking incredible. The Mercyful Fate medley has been a particular favorite of mine for a while now...one of the best things Metallica has recorded over the last 20 years. King looks and sounds really good...I hope he has recovered sufficiently from his heart and back ailments to be able to record and tour again on full-time basis.

Great comment. My first "metal" album was Load (not metal, I know) and from there, I bought Metallica's older albums, and then moved on to Slayer, Priest, Maiden, Sabbath, and countless other metal bands. In fact, I hardly listen to Metallica anymore, but I'll be eternally grateful to them for getting me into the metal genre.

They stayed loyal to alot of bands who helped them over the years you have to give them credit. Once they blew up they could have distanced themselves from a very non maintstream band like Mercyful Fate. But instead they made a what thirteen minute cover and even put King in their GH video game. says alot

I know you prob heard this before a thousand times but it is true.. Metallica when I was younger with albums such as ride the lightning and Justice was ok... But that was it...they became sellouts.
