Metallica perform "The Outlaw Torn" off of their 1996 album "Load". Recorded live @ The Fillmore in San Francisco, California on December 9th, 2011 (the third of four Metallica 30th birthday concerts).
People absolutely are accepting of those 2 albums, the amount of people including mysef who are begging them to play Fixxxer live is unbelievable, but they just don't
Load and Reload Are my favs albums of them. Now I first got into the first albums and made me fan. But I was positively surprised when I heard those two. They Are musically and poeticaly on another level. And Great with a band that dont Just put out 11 albums with the same fucking sound. Aint My Bitch, Outlaw Torn, Bleeding Me, Fixxxer, Until It Sleep is my favs. Although the latter should be longer.
i like when james looks back at lars at the 8:25 mark he gives him that ok man you got another one in you and he does the double bass drums like the old metallica even robert trujillo had to smile like dam they still got it they dont do it for long but at his age it's incredible he still has the knees left to even do it .... fucking awesome song!!!
I always thought the lp recorded version of this song never gave it teeth. I new it was/is a great song and this live version is how it should have been produced. Digging it!
load was the first metallica album i heard back in the 90s, and it has always been one of my favourite ones... and it doesnt contradict the love for the 80s albums, besides some narrow minded people
I know they're hesitant to play much from load/reload besides the singles because of the whole backlash, but this is definitely one I think most fans would embrace if they played it live more often.
Also, Kirk looks pissed the whole time, probably because his guitar part is so limited in this song haha... and Lars did double bass towards the end? Omg!
When Load came out I was 14 and in a really bad place in my life. I had really no one to turn to. I'd been absorbed in Metallica for a few years by this point and had only Metallica and their Music to help me. I've said it before but they saved my life. Thank you again Metallica I will be always forever greatful.
dude awesome video , thanks a million for this, from an avid Metallica fan, even though we couldnt be there , feels awesome to actually be able to see this \../, did Dave Mustaine perform with them as well, I cant find the vid, thanks again \../
It's not an effect. The camera picks up the audience sound alot more than we are used to hearing. And obviously there's gonna morph a weird sound with everyone not being able to sing in key etc.
@sixstrings4jbo honestly i think maybe mama said they very rarely play it live because its sounds like it country and western but if u forget the music sounds like that the lyrics are really good
I absolutely love this song, so underrated. In fact I'd argue the version of this song with the symphony is one of the best performances of Metallica's career.
Shit. I thought nothing would beat the S&M version of Outlaw.. But oh man.. This is just perfect. Hetfield kills the ending solo.. And that White Iron Cross? Will appear in my dreams.
@HerrLeotardo ''False'' is a childish response in ways, HIS opinion about those songs are as they are, you can disagree, but NO ONES opinion is ''false''
@emokiller907 its hard rock... it progressed.. musically superb albums.. but purists hated the material because it wasnt metal like that were used to..
@xxweaponsxx123 No..Hes not. His timing on even some of Metallicas best studio tracks isnt always on. His style is simple and easy to learn. Nothing against Tallica because I love the old stuff.
Ya this song & album has a lot of memories for me. I always use to listen to this song & album on my train ride home to my small home town of St.Marys,Ontario,Canada Home of the Canadian baseball hall of fame,The Quarry which is Canada's largest outdoor swimming pool,St.Marys Lincolons which are Canada's oldest Jr.B hockey team & have helped many players to the OHL,ECHL,AHL,NHL,Awesome endless snowmobile trails,
WHOLLY!!! This is one hell of a song. Im a metal head, life long metallica fan, and to this day love all music heavy as it can get. The Load albums are full of a TON of Metallica classics. Devils Dance, Carpe Diem, Outlaw Torn, Prince Charming, Fuel, Aint my Bitch all come to mind and you know there's more than that. It IS time Metallica fans grow up and appreciate the whole body of work, not just the first 3 albums.
@danielleseman97 Swelling. He's just playing with his volume knob. All you have to do is have your volume off, pick the string, and then fade in with the volume. Before you hit the next note, the volume has to go back down, and repeat. Hope that helps!
i was there, trust me...no way he was bored. Tired? ohh yea they all were. i noticed that "auto-tune" effect during the 1st part of the verses...it sounded much better without it In my opinion finally saw them play this song, always been 1 of my favorites :)
8.28 --> James: lars!... look at me... end it now!!.......... ok i'll play this note for the next 15 seconds... 8.43 --> James: lars, end it now asshole !!... omfg my arm is bleeding... METALLICA!!
Gotta say, this is the BEST performance I have seen of Metallica since Woodstock 1999. WOW...Even Lars put some effort into it and James REALLY put his heart and soul into it. He lost his METAL EDGE VOICE, but this was a great performance (playing wise).
Load was an amazing album, no matter what anyone says. Different doesn't necessarily mean bad, folks. Love this song. No so much the vocal effect though...
@emokiller907 Agreed There are some fucking mint songs on both albums (though I view it as one album) sure theres some filler. But combined, its solid as hell.
@exploitmankind I have to agree, brother.Lars is my favorite drummer of all time and I say the same damn thing every time I see him butcher a song live.No feeling at all.Unlike many drummers that SAY they could play his songs better than him,I 100% could do it because I eat and sleep his parts.I LOVE Metallica, make no mistake about it.I just wish Lars would play with more feeling. With that being said,I'm happy they played this tune (even though my man butchered it) because I love it!Rock on!
@jackys25 I completely agree, sir! Load was the first Metallica record my parents allowed me to buy and it was the first I memorized from beginning to end. This one and Ronnie were probably my first immediately favorite cuts, but I played the entire cd front to back so many times I actually wore out my first copy. :0
Hey @mathiasnielsen66 I been checking a lot of your Fillmore videos, the're great! You really know when & where to focus the camera; is almost where I would have been looking myself. You don't get much kudos for that (+sharing them, +putting the videos in HQ) Thank you very much. And I don´t mean it just for this video, but to all the ones you have posted. Gracias.
@emokiller907 False. Some of the songs are like what you describe, like this pne and Bleeding me, but 80% are simplistic and boring. How it is more personal I don't understand. I'd say the hostility and darkness fits Hetfield's lyrics much better on say "Harvester of Sorrow" than they do in "The House Jack Built" for instance.
I noticed that Kirk seems a little ticked when Hetfield's solo starts. Maybe Het blames Kirk sometimes for Cliff's death...or it's just simply that emotional.
Andos2325 I never said it was. I'm saying that since Cliff took Kirk's bunk, Hetfield might have blamed Kirk at some point or was pissed at him. The bunk switch was a result of drawing cards. Although, it was ultimately Cliff's decision to take Hammett's bunk.
OMG!! SOME PPL!! THIS IS HOW SHIT GETS STARTED!! CLIFF'S DEATH WAS FATE---THATS ALL!! IT WASNT ANYWHERE KIRK'S FAULT!! KEEP YOUR COMMENTS TO YOURSELF PLZ?!!
@emokiller907 Even tho ur playing Capt. Hindsight I respect u coming around to notice the brilliance of these albums.. And not jump off the ledge cause its not the metal ppl were used to.. Very sad some ppl cant see the musicianship over the lack of it not being metal.. #BLIND.
Lucky fuckers get to sit around and just think of custom guitars to have made for them. God damn, if I had that money I would have a new one every few months. Not a fan of the white knockoff les paul.
i agree with you man! I wish i could find a girl like that, it would be a dream come true! but unfortunatley all the girls i know listen to crap (pop, rap, untalented shit ect.)
@colorxoxmexox even on the other songs at fillmore,he acts just like you described him,its like hes not happy with something or probably mad, either personal or metallica life..
@Grunfetta i'm glad others noticed this - it hurts that some are saying he's "bored" - i don't think it's that at all - i think it's something personal going on in his life.
@TheSnareguitar i may be wrong, but i think they auto-tune his voice for this, just for the effect. no way the crowd could have matched his pitch and everything every time
im a huge fan of the early metallica (kill em all till justice) but i have to say this one of there best song they have ever written.dont know why but it is....
