If you've ever tried his alternating picking, you'll ask how his hand hasn't detached, I have arthritis from play Master of Puppets (jk it's really good though)

James is the king of down picking, but remember Kirk is right there down picking along side him. James has said his right hand speed is a result of him and Kirk egging each other on to play faster in the early days.
This song got me into Metallica when I was 13 or 14. Me and a friend were hanging out in a park in Hazel Grove, England...... when another friend came running up with his walkman (with the flimsy metal band headphones with orange foam ears) and said "listen to this!". It was the intro to Sanatarium and I was sold. My first Metallica song, and my favorite Metallica song. Good memories.
I am 46 years old and I think I was about 10 or 11 when I heard the Master of puppets album and it was sanitarium that got me hooked I understand it was amazing and still is 🤘🤘
@John Lydon ain't it weird that we were first introduced to the Master of puppets album and then had to go backwards to hear the first two and my mind was then blown away even more 🤘🤘
And again, Kirk is playing that amazing 1959 Les Paul Standard that was previously owned by Fleetwood Mac founder Peter Green, that Kirk paid $2 million dollars for. Hell yeah!!!!!
Jay cats Sure they are. Mid-50’s is average age for first time grandparents. Mine were 56 when I was born, and that’s how old they are now. But, their kids aren’t old enough to be parents yet.
@@blownonfuel Even better, it was Peter Green's before Gary Moore's 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard. It's an absolute treasure and I'm so glad to see Kirk actually using. It's been in the hands of some masters and continues to be through Kirk.
I always makes jokes about that, I tell people that Metallica is the only band no matter the genre, that has performed on every continent on the planet, freeze em all did it for them, it made their dream come true. So I say now it's time for them to rock out on Mars lol. So that makes your comment so awesome lol.
@@gasmaskedbassist1538 Lol you/we can't say that just yet he he. I'm not even sure that would even be possible lol. If aliens really do exist would they really be fans? I highly doubt it, plus does Mars have oxygen? I know it's just a joke, but is it possible? I know it would cost a pretty fucking penny.
@@JerryAsbury1985 I was joking there but it could be a possibility, 30 years out? And there are traces of oxygen on Mars as recent discoveries have shown life currently on Mars (micro organisms) and I'm personally not one to believe it until I see it so I'm not sure aliens exist (even though the chance they exist is high I'm aware)
Classic Metallica! Growling James, thundering Robert, Lars beating the backbone of it all, and Kirk playing everything from sparkling solos around the melody to shredding the teeth out of the wind. Seriously, meditation music for a metalhead!
I so wanted to go to this concert! The first time I saw Metallica was at Summer Sanitarium Aug 2003 and then at the Save Mart Center when they toured with Godsmack in 2004....
I was 16 and in a half way house for alcohol addiction when one of the guys handed me a cassette tape labeled Metallica: And Justice for All. Put my headphones on and pressed play. I had never heard sounds like that before! I was hooked! I was into Motley Crue, Quiet Riot, Ratt, Twisted Sister and Van Halen. Metallica was from another planet! After I wore that tape out I discovered Ride the Lightning! I had gotten to the lowest point in my life and decided to end it. I played Fade to Black over and over and swallowed 3 bottles of pills and chugged a pint of crown royal. I literally faded to black. I woke up 3 days later in ICU. Then in a “Sanitarium.” So, I can relate to Metallica’s songs more than any others. Metallica has always been in my playlist and will continue to be! 🤘🏻
One of those songs that actually sounds better today than back in the glory days, the band’s sounding extremely tight recently, really need to see them live
The best thing about this is seeing the youth of today upfront in the crowd keeping Metallica alive.. I'm almost 50 years old now and I was in the same place watching them over 25 years ago.. To today's generation 👏👏👏
This one goes out to you who battled the physical, mental, and spiritual battles. These gentlemen where there from grade school throughout adulthood. Thank you all. 🇺🇲🙏💪✝️👑
I’ve seen Metallica three times and they never cease to impress. They sound just as good live as they sound on recordings. Without a doubt one of the best bands ever. In fucking deniable.
My first Metallica song. My dad was driving me to school when I was about 6. Our car had a cassette player and he put in the tape for Master of Puppets and this was the first song that came on. I’m 17 now and I thank my dad for my love of metal. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Ive been listening to the boys for 34+ yrs...i had planned to go to at LEAST one concert this tour but for health reasons i couldnt....im so broken-hearted that i missed them, i listen to them every single day....anything and everything Metallica is my lifeblood...♥ you guys so much!! Good luck overseas...
I dont know what you think, but for me, this is the best performance of this song. The tone is perfect, lars keeping a tight and steady tempo, kirk nailing every solo on his peter green les paul, james singing perfectly with perfect articulation, bass loud, the beautiful clean riff (i know that its actually the rainbow worrior riff by bleak house), tight distorted parts, and that enchanting bass intro with the volume swells that make it sound like a cello, but best, that moment of silence, respect and mystery in the cliff-esque intro and then the audience goes wild when the main riff comes in. Yes.
Well, doesnt he always? I think it serves a certain rush and tension to the already fast second section. Anyways, at least he wasnt going off the rails.
On songs like these, James's voice has aged so unbelievably well. His vocals here sound so much better than the way he sang this song in the old days, it's amazing.
That tape before the song is so amazing. It’s so mysterious and calm and it was also something I had never seen before so it was like this new part of Metallica that was being introduced to me. I’ll never forget the feeling of being so confused yet so excited for what was about to come
I first heard this song while walking down a dark alley after school on a rainy day.. it was during a depressive episode I was in, it was absolutely mesmerizing and an experience I’ll never forget. Metallica became my favorite band since then and I can easily say they changed my life for the better. After that I wasn’t wanting to take my life anymore since being dead=no Metallica blasting in my ears! Lol I can’t wait to see them in August!
So jelly my friend i have seen them 2 times and they just get better and better the first time i saw them was right after James set him self on fire in Canada he was singing but someone els was playing his parts cuz his right hand was all bandaged up
Chris saw them at Starwood in Nashville in the 90s kick ass show. If you are old enough and living in the area you know where I'm talking about. Wanted to go to this one but couldn't. So how was the show.
This song was my refugee while my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer. Important so much in my life. It says the whole package of what it really means in real life
Well played! I listened to this song over and over on my SONY Walkman cassette player when I was a kid aged 10 on my first international flight from Germany to Chicago. Whenever I hear this song, it brings back memories of sitting on that plane and staring out the window as a kid. It feels like yesterday, but it's been 33 years now
I love their studio versions but having seen them live myself I’d much rather see Metallica!! So much more power and creativity in person!! Just awesome
Me encanta esta hermosa canción como suena después de la intro más la letra y todos los solos de Guitarra más la poderosa voz de Mr James es algo fantástico!! 🤘😎
