@@jamesboyd4863 The original Armored Saint lineup was really good! But the newer versions of Armored Saint are John with a different guitar player right?
I grew up on Anthrax and yes John doesn't get the credit he deserves. I almost don't like the band now because of how they kicked him to the curb. He saved the band in the 90s when Grunge and pop punk were taking over. Scott and Charlie better realize this.
John Bush is a Pro. Sings great, his voice isn’t destroyed, knows the lyrics, doesn’t need a teleprompter, and not out of breath. Professional!!! .....and he’s a super nice guy.
i remember him being so upset when around Worship Music Antrahx got rid of him to get Joe Belladonna back, he was treated like shit, and yet his behavior show so much respect, ultra good guy
+Chris J I fucking love his rendition of old Belladonna songs. Honestly the best singer they've ever had but Belladonna had the best songs. Greater of two Evils is the best of both worlds :)
+Erich U That is the best album with Bush on vocals. I can play that Anthrax album over and over again. Matter of fact, I'm going to press play right now LOL
No man, things been good at all. Dave had to be kicked for Megadeth, John was great at Athrax. And James was great enough at 1985-2000. Kirk had to join for this awesome middle solo. Can say nothing about Cliff Burton.
This is only further evidence why John Bush is one of my favorite metal vocalists of all time. Hetfield gave him carte blanche, and John went out and OWNED IT. I am grateful to have heard this; I only wish I was there!!
John Bush is simply one of the top metal singers of all time. His voice is unique, raw and passionate. He never lost it after all these years. Long Live!
I must have missed something here. He is fine, nothing special, and Im not hating on him or something, but saying “one of the top metal singers of all time” is kinda funny xD
@@raphaelmacedo4467 Considering that according to your opinion/taste he is "nothing special", it's not strange that you find this statement funny. For me and many others he is as special as it gets, so it's not funny at all.
John has this unique voice that fits every single genre. When I was 13 or so listening to Armoured Saint's Delirious Nomad I thought he was going to be the next Freddie Mercury based of his amazing vocal skills.
+Christian D Bush has my favorite "gnarly" voice out of everyone I've heard, while Joey has an equally good, but melodic rather than rough voice. They're both good for different songs in my opinion.
Saw The Saint in the early 80's. Saw them again in 2018. John still has that killer voice. One of the finest voices in all of Metal. Forgotten voices, John Bush, Glenn Hughes, Paul Rogers, Paul Shortino, Graham Bonnet, Jeff Scott Soto, Doogie White. The list goes on!
I'm glad someone did. Judging by the record and concert ticket sales when he was in the band, not many other people did. He's a great hard rock singer but not the guy for a band like Anthrax.
@@Swampster70 its not that Bush was a bad fit; you gotta remember that times/musical tastes were changing with grunge/alt being so popular, Anthrax, along with a lot of other bands got lost in the shuffle, even though they still made good music (White Noise charted at number 7 and went Gold in its 1st week)that moved with the times(without selling out), but still remained true to their metal roots. IMO, Bush is one of the greatest metal vocalists ever,no matter what band he fronts.
The man just kicks ass, but, every time I hear him all I can think is "Armored Saint" He sings with so much energy and force, it really gets you going.
John Bush is a way underrated Singer, this dude's voice still kick's ass. His voice sounds as good as when armoured saint opened up for Metallica in 1983 amazing, not to mention when he joined anthrax those were some of their best albums IMHO...
@@mikeg.9238 Joey has completely lost his voice, its the aging process cant be helped. My theory on why John Bush was not accepted well by plastic fans is because he doesnt have the Metal trademark long hair.......Thats my thoughts...Scott gets away with it because he has been there from the off and he is a Wizard anyway...............
@@scotty193 John had long hair when he was in Armored Saint. Honestly I never was a big fan of Anthrax anyway. I loved Metal thrashing mad , from Fistfull of metal. I don't remember the singer's name , but I think that was the only album with him. I've never been a fan of Joey's , my favorite album was and still is Sound of white noise with John , almost that whole album kicks ass IMO!!!
Wow. Just Wow. John Bush makes any band better. He is one of the best singers in metal, hands down. Armored Saint is a great band. Bush took an already great Anthrax to a new level. And as much as I love Hetfield leading Metallica, John Bush again took it to a new level. Thanks for sharing this video!
Goddamn, that was awesome! John Bush killed it on the vocals and even the backing vocals were epic! If that somehow came out as an insult, none was intended.
Yes. Seems anthrax has no identity,, they're all over the place with punk stuff, priest imitations, serious music, comedy music, idk what they are. That 90s soundgarden alice in chains vibe with Bush on vocals would have worked very well i think.
John and James actually have really good vocal harmony. I really wish Anthrax had never pulled their BS, and Bush had never left the band. We've Come For You All was SUCH a good album. Just to imagine where the band could have gone from there, if not for their sudden "we wanna make 80s money with Joey" tour they wanted to do. Don't blame John at all for not wanting to be part of that, moving back instead of forward. I'm willing to bet the follow up to WCFYA would have been epic (if it had been developed naturally, with Bush's involvement), but we'll never know.
Yeah, sucked how they looked back instead of forwards. The Bush years with Anthrax were amazing. I saw them open for Pantera once and they destroyed and outjamed Pantera on the trendkill tour. I don't understand why Scott Ian pulled that shit. I guess alot of people like that old Joey stuff. I'm not one of them.
Imagine if John Bush had joined as lead singer and Cliff Burton had taught John and James how to harmonize vocals, like a Metallica equivalent of Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell, with Cliff and Dave as backing vocals.
Imagine not having he feral cat vocal ferocity and riffs of Megadeth, the idiosyncratic lead guitar styles of Chris and Marty, the superior drumming of Gar and Nick (Compared to lazy Lars)...
@@notsure1135 they were gonna fire Lars around the master of puppets era before cliff died. Around that time Dave Lombardo left slayer for a few months. Lombardo could have joined metallica. So it would be John Bush, Dave Mustain, James Hetfield, Cliff Burton, and Dave Lombardo.
crazy to think how different metallica could have been: bush, mustaine, burton, newsted. so many great musicians who for different reasons are not up there with them today. still the greatest band ever imo
Mustaine came out to play a few songs w/ them at the last show though and Kirk even gave him the freedom of choosing which solo he could play on Phantom Lord (Mustaine played the original "demo version" solo that didn't make Kill 'Em All)
OMG, John is just an amazing vocalist! But James will always be the man in Metallica. Even Bush said it himself..... They both sound awesome together BTW!
@@noahmartin9526 I've read somewhere that they called Joey before Bush leaving. So Idk if he really didnt wanted to go, or if they just called Belladona for reunite "the classic Anthrax".
There were several reunion tours and such popping up for different bands, and the bug reached Joey and Anthrax. They reunited with Joey and Dan, replacing John and Rob. Think this was when Frank left to be in Helmet too, and Joey Vera replaced him. Frank came back too, and they did Gigantour and I think another tour. At the end of the tour, Dan left, Rob came back, and it was up in the air about whether it would be Joey or John. They asked Joey first, and he had been talking with Dan about how much he should be paid. Dan told him the figures from the last album he had been in the band, which was Sound of White Noise. Record sales weren't that high anymore, and the money Joey wanted, based on that, was all of the money. Scott and Charlie tried to show him it wasn't that much anymore, but he believed Dan. They said no to his demands. They called John, he didn't want to commit to them because he felt was backup option, understandable. He also had a kid, was doing voice work for his wife (he was the Burger King voice over for a couple commercials for her), and didn't need to go on tour again. Rob finds Dan Nelson and brings him in. He works with them on an album, they commit to a tour in Europe. Before the album releases, and before the tour, something happens, and Dan Nelson is gone. A lot of speculation and rumors. They scrap the album release, call John about the tour, he agrees to help them out. At the end of it, they ask him to record the vocals for the album to replace Dan's vocals. He declined. Anthrax now has an album finished, featuring a singer not in the band. At one point, Corey Taylor offers to be the new singer. Anthrax is ecstatic, he is ecstatic. They schedule him to come out, and the day of his flight, Roadrunner calls and tells him he can't be in Stone Sour and Slipknot and Anthrax, he still has record commitments for Stone Sour and Slipknot. Anthrax again has no singer. While back in New York, Charlie is at a bar, and in walks Joey. They hash it out, and Joey comes back. And that's where we're at now.
John Bush fucking killed it, and I love that they did the slow middle section which they hadn't done live for decades - Kirk's solo on that section is so damn good.
Well, don't get me wrong, i liked James voice a lot in the 80's, but this is definitly the best vocal performance ever from a Metallica song. John Bush is awesome! I can't imagine how great Metallica would habe been with him!
Metaphoria Go listen to some old armored saint or sound of white noise. Both of these singers are past their vocal prime but back in his day Bush wouldn't have taken the back seat to James.
+Coltallic James was never a singer. His screams were amazing, when he couldnt keep like that and choose to singing, they went downhill. Also, I think after 2000 it would be better, there were many concerts in the 90s that were great with James.
@@damianb2374 Check Jason Newsted interviews and the Metallica documentaries, also Jason is not the only case, Hetfield and Ulrich mistreated Mustaine even worse than Jason.
konrad3014 He wrote most of the song (originally the Mechanix, found in the first Megadeth album). The part you are referring to has actually been rewritten by Metallica after Mustaine's departure.
As an old 80's survivor at age 56, I fondly remember John's days in Armored Saint and knew back then that he was a cut above the rest. The years have not diminished his voice while others have fallen by the wayside. He's a true diamond in a sea of common stones.
I love John Bush but let's be real... To say that his voice hasn't diminished is stretching the truth a little bit. The best vocal performance that man ever did was on the Symbol of Salvation album. As much as I love the ensuing Anthrax records, they really took a toll on his voice. I understand that people like this version but the only thing I can think of is what it would have sounded like with THAT John Bush.
Imagine another dimension where JB lead vocals, James on Rhythm, Mustaine or Ian on lead guitar and Benante on drums. We ended up spoiled as hell w the Big 4. I'm glad we had em all!
Ya know the thing is nobody can top James voice/presence from Kill 'Em All - Black. He was an unstoppable force of nature that fit the band's persona perfectly. No one and I mean NO ONE can replicate or replace that. And thats a HUGE deal when you're talking about what makes Metallica METALLICA. John has a good voice but so do alot of people. How many sound like James Hetfield? I'll take his vocals on the Kill album 8 days a week. However I did like the chorus harmonies. They should do that more...If they can lol Not taking anything away from John Bush but I am SO GLAD they "settled" for James!
