I worked with John Bush on the Metal Allegiance show and he was the most polite and kind hearted person on that stage. Wish I had more time with him. I LOVE Anthrax with JB 🤘🏽
He's fantastic to see live. He interacts great with the fans and even commented on the t-shirt I was wearing at a show. Armored Saint is my absolute favorite band!
He is a class act. Never talks shit about anybody, never wanted to do another Tour with Belladonna just for the money. He is very sincere. And maybe the best Metal Vocalist ever.
Despite everything that happened, for him to say that Joey should be their singer...what a huge thing to say. Such a gentleman and consummate professional!
@@yeahsure8323 The only 'thrax album without John Bush that I really enjoyed listening to was the very first album (which sounded a little bit like Judas Priest and Paul D'Anno really like Judas Priest and Paul D'Anno Iron Maiden but other than that the John Bush era of this band had better song writing with better, more memorable songs that had good hooks and melodies and heavy guitar riffs that are good to listen to while you are lifting weights in the gym). The Jon Bush era of this band was really a lot better than most other 1990's rock bands
I remember the first time I heard “Only” Hanging at friends place, bong loads and booze. “Only” video comes on. Totally blown away. We were in awe. It’s like James Hetfield said: perfect song.
Those Bush era albums are so underrated. I wish he was still in Anthrax. It was my all time fav band with him. But I suppose we still have Armored Saint. If he does do a tour doing Anthrax songs, I'd well be there going ape shit in the front row.
Right there with you man, for me the only Anthrax (save for a small handful of songs) is Bush era Anthrax (hehe, sounds funny given our ex-presidents who shared the same last name :P) and Sound of White Noise is one of my favorite albums of all time (and I count Poison My Eyes as a sort of 'hidden'/'bonus' or '12th' track for that album even though it was from the Last Action Hero soundtrack due to the similar sound and the fact that it was recorded at the same studio during the same sessions as the main album if I recall correctly), and while I wasn't quite as enthusiastic about Stomp 442 as a whole, it does include some of my favorite Anthrax songs of all time (Nothing and Bare in particular for me) and I at least like every song on the album; I just don't love every song as I did the whole of Sound of White Noise. We've Come for You All and The Threat Is Real were decent as well and definitely had some standout tracks for me and I'm certain that if he'd have continued with the band, I would have more Anthrax albums on my shelf without a doubt.
Agree man. I preferred the harder edge that he brought to the band. Funny I haven't really listened to Anthrax since he left. Loved Anthrax prior, then the Bush albums now....not so much.
Only got into Anthrax when John joined. We've Come For You All is one of my all time favourite albums! I'm gutted I never saw them live with John. I'd love to see him do his era songs with another band! Especially since Anthrax don't play them. Please do it, John and bring it to England!!
John bush is a great singer but he's also with another heavy metal band called armored saint by the first album called March of the saint second album Rise in fear and then the next album Delirious mind and then symbol of salvation all the way up revelation and when you buy those albums you won't be disappointed
Cool ass guy and a great vocalist. I was fortunate enough to see many of Armored Saint's early club shows in Hollywood in the early LA metal scene. Those were the days.
I never saw Armored Saint live, but I remember seeing the band members all hanging out at the Country Club in Reseda in 1984 when I saw Raven and Anthrax (ironically) there.
He fitted in the band very well. I remember seeing them in Germany as opener for Motorhead. I hadn't seen them for ages and they blew me away, they crushed the stage. John Bush was way better than I had expected.
Only Anthrax records I ever bought were the ones with John. He was such a perfect fit and the missing piece to their sound. I could never get into the stuff with Joey.
Man I would absolutely love to see John do a show playing his era of Anthrax songs! Thanks for doing the interview with him. I for one absolutely love The Greater of Two Evils and am glad he did it with them!
@Cuber Newb There were two videos made for that album, for the song “Nothing” and one for “Fueled”, that probably no one ever saw. I discovered them years later on a video VHS compilation Anthrax released (Killer A’s videos) in the early 2000s.
I will never EVER forget when I got to see Anthrax live for the first time during the We've come for you All tour here in Costa Rica, I was taking pictures of them and getting their autographs and John who was the last one on the table said to me "you coming to the show?" To which I replied "fuck yeah! I've waiting all my life to see you" one of the best shows I've been to.
Caught an Anthrax show with John Bush on vocals. Was a big Armored Saint fan and a huge Anthrax fan. Joey is Anthrax but John was an awesome version. What a show! He gave me the mic a few times, sung with him a few times and played bloody knuckles. Anthrax played alot of old stuff and new too. Was like my very own private show. Blew my mind. And afterwards Frank gave me his pick. Went to toss it to me and some dude tried to intercept and Frank pulled it back and personally handed it to me and shook my hand. What a night. Thanks Anthrax and John!
This was a good interview. For those who like Joey Belladonna better you should check out the Behind the music VH1 segment somebody put on here. They say they made a mistake doing the reunion tour with Belladonna and say they never should have done it. They say they like John Bush better in the band.
John Bush is one of the best metal voices, and just a great person. Perfect for Armored Saint! I love both Anthrax’s eras, both had their downs and a lot of ups. But the album that really meant most for is their legendary first Fistful of Metal. Best trash album EVER!
LOVE LOVE LOVE W.C.F.Y.A. John Bush was totally awesome in Anthrax. Kind of liked The old stuff but when Bush came in, they became one of my favorites.
I love the Bush era of Anthrax. The only albums I have of Anthrax is all the Bush albums. Also loved the title track song off the Bordello of Blood soundtrack which I played in my car all throughout my senior year.
When Joey left anthrax and John joined i had a hard time accepting it but after i saw them live in 1996 they blew my mind. Now i def like John Bush better. Don't get me wrong i love Joey and John eras a lot but they don't play Bush era songs anymore....lucky enough to have seen them 6x w/ Bush. I got meet them Toronto 98, Toronto 2003 & Buffalo, NY 2003. John Bush is the most down to earth awesome guy i ever met. After the Toronto 2003 show he just chilled and was talking with me for like 15 min. Such a humble cool dude!!!
I love John Bush. I am old school Anthrax fan but got into the Bush stuff in about 2000. I really got into supporting them, because they were struggling (Vol 8 disappeared because of the label tanking, etc.). Charlie and Scott posted weekly on their old website - direct communication with fans. I felt they were very down to earth. I was really into WCFYA and tried to drum up support with street team materials. They were very positive about it. All the activity afterward seemed like positive momentum. Then, suddenly, the reunion, all the positivity around WCFYA, MoMD, GoTE, gone, new website, no more Alpha Mails or Blast Beats. Soured me on them for years.
I love both eras Anthrax is no doubt my favorite thrash band and def one of the most technical it baffles me how they are the least talked about of the big 4.
Mr. Bush, if you ever decide to hit the road to perform those amazing Anthrax songs that you made legendary with different musicians, I'd love to provide bass for your band. Your time with Anthrax was a huge positive impact in my life. Would love to perform Tester & Catharsis along side you. Great interview and a true class gentlemen.
All Hail the Armored Saint himself, John Bush!!! I got my hands on a cassette (CD's didn't even exist !) of "March of the Saint" back in 1984 and was blown away! (Holy shit he's been kicking ass on stage for nearly 35 years!! Now that is the fucking very definition of OLD school!) Regarding his years with Anthrax - in my mind, he was always The Greater of Two Evils!! He took their "Sound of White Noise" into some really unexpected sonic territories, and I was hooked like a crack baby! Stomp 442, Vol.8 The Threat is Real, We've Come For You All, Music of Mass Destruction....dude, I still fucking love them all!! @John Bush : Thanks for being such a massive part of my lifes' soundtrack, man. Your songwriting has always been a clear reflection of your personality; and the often [painfully] open exposure of the depths of your emotional character, combined with your personal and moral integrity, have been both inspiring and motivational for most of my life. Really glad that you're still going just as hard as ever, still making great music, and I'm hoping you and the Saint come through the Southeast US again sometime soon!! Much love and respect, man...
This guy is grrrrreat! I’m only listening to the JB Anthrax for about a month. Both singers are great. Like when Brian Johnson replaced Bon Scott. Both versions were entirely and sufficiently kick ass
Persistence Of Time and Sound Of White Noise are my two faves from Anthrax, loved all the John Bush albums too he's a fucking great singer. Great interview btw!
Loved it! I didnt know they got a new singer. I bought sound of white noise the day it came out I was so excited. I played it and was like wtf? I was so waiting for joeys voice then it wasnt. Fk! I didn't put it on again for months. It was in my disk changer. Then it snuck up on me snd became my most favorite album of any band. Stomp 442 is soooooo killer. Can be hard to get or was some years back. Anyhow. Those albums all kick ass! Every last anthrax song kicks ass !!!
Sound of white noise is a really good album great singing in it thank you for all the experience you gave it in anthrax love your work John eight ball is fantastic it love it
Met John and Frank on We’ve Come for You All tour. Great guys as Scott and Charlie sat on the bus half the night! Frank and I had a great chat about a variety of music while John and I talked about Armored Saint. Glad he went back!
Good times driving to LA to see Armored Saint. Met John outside of a liquor store. He was putting up flyers for the show we were going to see. I was probably 17 or 18. I thought the short interaction was awesome. I still have my old vinyl collection. Anthrax is in there as well as Armored Saint.
Me gusta mucho toda la época de Anthrax con Bush,y we've come for you all es un discazo, broche de oro, igual no pierdo la esperanza de que algún día vuelvan a grabar un disco juntos.
