One of the finest rally cars to grace the worlds stages. That sound just sends shivers down my back. Superb music! It would have been interesting to have seen a evolution version rallying, rather than just in rally cross but Group B was a doomed formula, sadly. But you can't beat Group B cars for spectacle.
Whilst other group B drivers and teams might have mocked the Metro, it was without a doubt the safest, most sustainable and affordable group B cars ever....sounded pretty good too!!
By far, the best EVER car to come out of a BL factory gate. The look, THAT SOUND, beautiful. Group B have given us really fantastic cars, but for me there is only one. I have one on my bucket list, hopefully the boss will say yes.
It should be noted that the clip in this vt of Colin Mc Rae (clip 2. Grey Metro) and Nicky Grist was taken at the Donegal International Rally. During this rally Colin had an extreme high speed slide and overshoot at a junction in the Metro. This was captured on the in car camera and on an external camera at the junction. Find it on RU-vid...👍
What's funny is that my mum used to drive an Austin Metro: an utter piece of garbage. It had good acceleration, but was SOOOO trembling over 100 km/h. It was a 1.0, and 4 ports... I imagine what the 3 ports/lower weight Metros were! Holy shit, they must've been very frightening to drive :D Now I own a little Corsa Sport, '99, those 16v and the relatively low weight are fascinating. Watching these monsters, I can't help but feel like I missed my chance of keeping the Metro and tuning it over in these years... maybe I'll get some cheap Metro from the market and see if I can still mess around with those. I'm deciding if doing it with a Metro or a 106 Rally. Both are great cars. My mum used to tell me "These cars are not for girls like you", even if she meant that they were a little bad looking, watching this I'm thinking "maybe she knew" :D
