There's a quicker way to bomb jump that I've been using to get everywhere. Jump with the morph ball vertically and at the apex plant a bomb. Then jump back to that apex and plant the first in a sequence of bombs following this pattern: Ta ta-ta Ta ta-ta Ta ta-ta Ta. I hope this helps.
As a rando enjoyer in other metroid games (not experienced enough with Dread yet) its always good to know and practice different ways of getting items.
Start a speed at the room the right above the cone room, get the spark by stopping just before that morph spot, go back into the cone room, proform a double jump then press B+Y together press right, and hold right to grab the ledge, then profit.
@@MegaLucario95 Yeah, I wish it was more formulaic so it could be a more reliably repeatable technique, like in Super, Zero Mission, and AM2R. I spent a good while in one of the large train rooms practicing it and seeing how far across the room I can get. Because there isn’t an exact set amount the bombs force you sideways, like in the sprite-based games, the physics are a lot tougher to control and stay up in the air once you move yourself sideways from a bomb blast.
@@Straigo I noticed how random the physics get when bombing sideways. Even if you do the exact thing twice, to a T, i was still getting different results. But hey, if you can somehow find a way to get it consistently, go for it. It’ll be unique to see it put to use.
I use to do these kind of things like in Metroid Zero Mission. I use to get Ice Beam and Varia Suit early to go beat Kraid and not suffer in the pools of acid.
I get early Varia too, but I Kraid before even entering Norfair, which means I do it without the power grip; there are some tedious bomb jumps but it's not that bad. For an any% run I think it's faster to beat Ridley before Kraid, but I always do 100% except for those 15% runs
It’s actually funny how forgiving home jumping is in this game compared to all the others. Quite a few sequence breaks can be found just by bomb jumping, such as this shown here or early Phase Shit
That's more of a 99.9% file if you don't have all the things. Samus might be a good bounty hunter but she can't math. Or was ADAM keeping track of that?
@@sierraamaya I keep forgetting you can flash more than once, but shinespark + flash can absolutely work too. I’ve just got Super Metroid’s bomb jumping so ingrained in my head from all the randomizers i still do.
Any missile pickup is worth it. Just decided to have a little extra fun while secretly forgetting that you can flash 3 times consecutively before cooldown.
@@BaconNuke It actually is since It’s practice for getting some pickups that normally require way later abilities or getting to some areas early. It’s just a matter of how you feel like playing.
@@MegaLucario95 well it works but I've never seen that timing be used before. It looked like you placed a new bomb on your way down but the way I do it is I place a bomb at the greatest height then when I bounce I place a new one right next to the top one before it explodes. It's really hard to explain with text but the way you do it seems to gain height slower than the method I learned back playing Super Metroid.
@@PleasantLeech What’s funny is that my method in this vid is the exact way i bomb jump in SM, at the time i wasn’t aware of how forgiving the timing window is in Dread.
There’s plenty of ways to get it, i just used one of the slowest methods for the sake of trying it out and practicing. There’s a couple other of the way pickups you can get with this method, rather than return at a later time when you have the necessary/required ability.
You don’t even need space jump, flashing from the left hand top door in the same room as the missile works too. Also because bomb jumping is a grand ol’ time.
Completely pointless since you have flash shift. Would have been more impressive if you did some diagonal bomb jumping with no flash shift. That would make it truly early missile upgrade.
At the time i wasn’t aware the path to the door up top was still accessible, so why not have fun with and practice a mechanic that’s been fun to use since SM. Got some actual early power bombs this way.
You lay a bomb, and just after it explodes but before you reach the maximum height you get from it, you lay another in midair, and you can just keep doing that over and over again to reach pretty much as high as you want to go.
