Dude I hope they port this game to Switch so we can get the chance to play it with a Pro controller and a better quality, this game Totally deserve it.
@@tono_lagos8765 It's always possible for either the Space Pirates or even the Galactic Federation to build an entire artificial ecosystem based on SR388 in planet Zebes similar to the one in the BSL Station in order to allow "the Baby" to continue it's natural life cycle, becoming a Queen and kickstarting a new hive in the process. As long as you have the resources and technology Metroids can STILL grow into mindless killing monsters ANYWHERE in the Universe.
It gets real interesting with AM2R. The ways people defeat bosses and complete the game are surprising. For example, I never knew you could role under the chozo statue's feet.
@The Clorox Addict lol omega fight is quite similar but more difficult than zeta metroid in am2r. I don't understand how zeta feel more difficult and better than omega. Even though omega has every technique which zeta had but more difficult. Yes both metroid fight has that hiding place in am2r through which you can cheese both metroid fights.
One thing I loved about this scene is that it shows that Samus is a super strong badass bounty hunter, and then it immediately shows how gentle she can be. Samus really is the best of both worlds
If only they had Google where you live... OH WAIT, THEY DO!!! In case you have YET to google it, a process quicker than posting "wat is this?" Other M is a 2d Metroid game for the Wii by a third party dev, same guys that did (new) Ninja Gaiden. It wasn't very popular.
Jason Adjiwanou As long as you keep the baby Metroid away from Planet SR388 or any environments replicating it, it _should_ stay as a cute, friendly jellyfish.
Yeah I loved it, I even got all of Samus' ending variants/poses in all the difficulties including Fusion mode. It is highly underrated, although I'm not sure that general perception will change much given how much of an improvement Dread is in some pretty big ways. If the game were to get rereleased as-is it would probably be kind of jarring to go back to after playing a lot of Dread.
@@BradTheDead I played through this game twice (Normal and Hard) for the first time and played Dread just a couple of days after I finished. I can say with all certainty that Dread is the superior game. It has access to more buttons which makes toggling between different weapons like the grapple more intuitive on the fly, much smoother movement, more variety of enemies that don't feel as cheap, and the exploration is top notch. I thought this game didn't let you discover much for yourself. You just use a pulse and get a readout of all hidden rooms and item locations. But I also don't like how earlier Metroid games required a guide to 100% without bombing everything. The new mechanics in Dread game helped me to 100% the game while still finding the secrets for myself or not realizing it when the game was guiding me about what to do or where to go.
@@jacobg8640 Yeah I totally agree that Dread is the superior game by some distance but it's great to see how some of the things from this game carried over to Dread (I can't imagine a 2d Metroid game without being able to parry enemies). I get the feeling this game was largely overlooked by all but the most dedicated fans but then that's probably true for most other games in the series! On a side note I've noticed on Ebay the price of this game has shot up since Metroid Dread's release, i bought a sealed copy of this around 18 months ago for £27, now sealed copies (at least here in the UK) are going for at least £80. Should have bought 2...
@@burtbackattack I borrowed it from a friend in preparation for Dread after I played the rest of the series on an emulator save Super on NSO. It's always been $40 here in the US with used copies being even more expensive. I've fallen in love with the series, but needed the money for Dread.
Something kind of scary about Samus’ design in this game is how much it reminds me of Dark Samus. That visor shape just really throws me off. It looks great tho.
I guess many people don't know this, but you can slam into her by spider balling onto the wall and using a power bomb to propel yourself. It interrupts her attacks and does good damage, so you can use it when she's in a phase you don't like. I used it whenever she'd spit the green blobs.
It works but it's hard to pull of after the second powerbomb to the queens heart. Because she starts to shoot her beam on the ceiling and I run into the beam before her head
Then again killing the baby Metroid Samus wouldnt have been in those situations. For example Ridley cant take the baby Metroid from the space facility in Super Metroid because there is no Metroid thus most likely preventing what happened. On Metroid Fusion the without the DNA of the baby metroid a facility wouldnt be constructed in SR388 to clone the Metroid. Then again im just high af right now and thinkin tooo hard about it haha
Not scary? Try playing it when those graphics were considered better than previous generation (minus color). The buildup of hearing what sounded like defenseless monster cries with ominous music playing and you enter the lair to see a gigantic monster bigger than the screen can display (almost inconceivable at the time) that hit hard, hit fast, and didn't want to go down despite dozens upon dozens of missiles. I may sound old, but back then, it was a Colossus.
For the green balls, and any fire breathing attack, you can morph ball between her two front claws and avoid all chance of damage. Definitely takes longer, but it made beating it in hard mode much simpler.
Thomas Reid You’ll have to roll out from under there quickly when the coast is clear; once she’s finished attacking, the Queen will notice you’re under her and will prepare to charge forward.
Same! I did both playthroughs back to back, and I just thought I was taking advantage of her being knocked out to shoot Super Missiles down her throat. Go figure!🤣
I had absolutely no idea you could just roll inside the Metroid Queen and drop a power bomb right next to her heart. I’m now more prepared for this fight when I get there. Already defeated the Diggernaut, so she should be next.
I swear I didn't know this, either! I played on normal and then hard, back to back, and I swear I killed her by thinking I was taking advantage of the opening to unload as many Super Missiles into her mouth as possible after yanking her head down.
I recently bought Metroid samus returns last week, I’ve completed it now and it was a blast…. But I NEVER REALISED YOU COULD MORPH BALL INSIDE THE Queen Metroid, that’s so cool.
Not killing the baby Metroid was the smartest decision Samus ever made and will ever make. Because even if she makes smarter decisions, she wouldn’t have been alive to make them if she didn’t spare the Metroid
When she spits out the green balls there is a space next to her chest that you can sit in with the morphball that is completely safe until they go away. You can't do damage while you wait. But its great if you are having trouble dodging the balls and the lasers.
Yeah, it's a nod to the original. Though AM2R made it more of an Easter egg, since you got a fantastically gory kill if you opted to kill her with a power bomb.
It's three times. First against Ridley while trying to escape SR388. Second against Mother Brain in Super Metroid. Third time when it's cells were used in the vaccine that saved Samus' life against the X parasites in Fusion,
Tip: For the phase where she uses the Green Plasma attack, going under her neck is a safe zone and will cause the AI to initiate a charge attack, just roll away while in morph ball form and you'll get away unharmed.
Ah, I'm about to hit this very point now in the game, and based off of what I've seen "It should be a breeze" it's the one after this one that concerns me lol.
Man, good fight. I never really got the gist on how to avoid the second fire attack that starts from the upper part of the screen. Thus, I finished the fight with 30 energy and my heart beating at 120 bpm 😂😂
I know I'm gonna get slack for this but in the style of Other M, I could see this when Samus meets the baby Metroid. "(5:10) I had my cannon raised and the Ice Beam fully charged...I was ready to pull the trigger. But...something was telling me that this was wrong. The newly hatched Metroid...it wasn't trying to hurt me, in fact, it's mannerisms were acting as if I was more to it. (5:27) Then it hit me, most newborn species feel the first thing they see as it's mother...and this baby Metroid...I was the first thing it saw after it hatched in front of me. (5:38) I couldn't do it. Not to such a defenseless creature. (5:42) I knew what I had to do now, I needed to bring this baby to safety. I'll return to my ship and leave this planet for good. And maybe...just maybe, there may be hope for the Metroids yet with this baby."
I was wondering before why people would not try to find a way to get inside the Queen on this version of the game, or if Nintendo had removed the action. One of the surprises in the original Metroid 2 GB game was that it was quicker and easier to enter the paralyzed Queen's mouth when she froze right in front of you and deposit as many morphball bombs as possible till she died instead of laying 200+ rockets on her and almost dying in the long process. I remember doing that by accident and then it became my preferred way of killing her. Then watching other people's game play on this version really made me think that Nintendo wouldn't or couldn't have erased that option and I am glad now that I saw that they didn't.
The Queen Metroid is essentially a big Dodongo from the Zelda series, you kill it in pretty much the same fashion by bombing its insides. I’m also surprised at how many people didn’t realize you could roll in her mouth, that was the optimal strategy back in the original Metroid II and you have to do it in Other M
Goddamn! I didn't know you could go inside. I just used super missiles. Also, where you used ice beam, I used regular missiles to soften her up. I'm trying to get the under 4 hour finish time...and you've helped "bigly". Thanks.
I didn’t know I could spider ball around the green fireballs. I was initially taking cover under her head, but had to switch it up because later in the battle she lowers her neck
Wow, just think...Samus was sent to SR388 by the Galactic Federation to exterminate all Metroids...but after defeating the Queen Metroid, she went against protocol and decided to adopt the Baby! Goes to show that even intergalactic bounty hunters have a soft side!
Why is everyone so surprised that you could crawl into the Queen Metroid and bomb her from the inside? You were able to do that in the original Game Boy version too.
Well when I played the original, I tried to, but I never got past her mouth (I wasn’t willing to risk it further because of how quickly it drained my health) When I played through this fight for the time, I completely forgot you could do so, especially with the Thunder Shield Also, not everyone’s played the original Metroid 2. It’s a bit of a hidden gem in the Gameboy’s library Even still, I think it’s a cool nod to the original fight
Just finished this game today and of course i didn't knew you could enter her. Saw that you could do that in the gameboy version and thought "wait, what if..."
ShadowNinjaGrump Game or melee counter and shoot? There's auto lock on after the melee too so you don't have to aim. It's a lot faster. Then again, the stupid snail things can't be melee countered, I guess ice would work on them
You could destroy those green orbs with the Screwattack the entire time!?!?!?!?!?! And I was dodging them like Catherine Zeta-Jones dodged laserbeams lol
There’s a lot of people that didn’t think to use the spiderball for the wind pushing attack didn’t diggernaut teach y guys ?i sure as hell frustratingly learned
Can anyone tell me how the grapple works? Samus just latches on and stands there. I don't get it I don't remember being told how to use the grapple on enemies. I had the same problem with the Zeta metroids
Aim at the Glowing Red Grapple Spot, Hold L(Or switch to grapple beam) and Aim, when the light turns Light Blue, Shoot and HOLD the Shoot Button, then While holding the Button move the Analog stick back as though your trying to Pull on the enemy.
Fuck yeah. I started with beam burst to get to the first uppercut and grapple part. Used missiles to get to the second and third but missed the third grapple part but got two power bombs in at least. Trying to get the fourth uppercut so I can get the third power bomb so bad I started using my super missiles and bam didn’t need a third power bomb cause super missiles finished the job. What a fight.
The Queen Metroid is as intimidating as always. I wonder how Samus would handle the Basilisk from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets? I mean, would she know not to look the Basilisk in the eye, and that it has very potent venom? Then again, she probably would just shoot the Basilisk in the eyes with her eyes closed, considering she shot the Diggernaut in the face with incredible accuracy without looking at it.
OH, so THAT'S what I was doing wrong. God damn it. The Queen Metroid isn't so tough now after I used your strategy. Beat her on my first attempt utilising this.
I hate it when she uses her fire breath on the ceiling FIRST and then on the ground, as well as launching those green balls. What am I supposed to do to avoid this attack?! Ground first, then ceiling is fine, just spiderball onto the wall and jump off when the ground fire extinguishes. But I can't avoid the attack the other way around! And I can't space jump to avoid because of those damn green balls!
i dodged by spider ball jumping to the ceilling with a power bomb the first time out of reflex. the green blob can't hit you during the propulsion either so thats nice.
Shit me too, was looking for this comment, I can never avoid when she does that pattern first, what I did my four time playing this game as soon as she shoots the greens balls I quickly turn to morph ball and start climbing the ceiling, all three times she shot down first, not sure if I just got lucky but that's what I did, but yeah fuck that attack lol.
You know i wonder if people had gotten idea for metroid queen orginal one from movie metamorphis a cheesy monster movie, the alien in it looks very similar to metroid queen. it came out before metroid 2 on gameboy.
Gameplay and variety wise I say this is better than the AM2R version of the queen, the idea of using the spiderball during the boss fight was brilliant, sadly the presentation is not nearly as good as AM2R, specially the music, the remix of the classic theme carries so much more tension and drama than this new one.
0:15 Queen Metroid: You. I am amazed that you fought past all my children and made it all the way here. You may have killed all my children, but you’ll never take me down!
