Soto is not coming to the Mets. Why would he cross town, immediately alienating himself from half the city he lives in, to downground ballpark, uniform and legacy, all to be on a losing team? He'd have to go integrate himself into a fourth team when he's already beloved on his current team. Sure, Cohen can overpay, but that's not the intelligent move. The Mets first need to build the base of a good young franchise, and then they can look at attracting top free agents who will view the team as a destination, not just a place where they're coming to be overpaid. Cohen driving up the salary structure is going to come back and bite him in the ass when the next CBA rolls around.
That will always be a Mets problem. I can understand free agents wanting to play elsewhere than NYC. The problem the Mets approaching free agents is, why would they want to play in NYC and not for the Yankees.
Soto will sign if all he cares about is money. He already won a WS. If he cares about winning and legacy, he’ll stay far away from the Mets or other downtrodden ball clubs.
I dont any scenario where Soto is a Met unless Cohen Drastically over pays like Micheal saying 60+. If Mets are seller this year, why would Soto come to a team that won't be contenders and play w rookies (outside getting paid). If the money is semi close he will stay on the Yankees where he can make playoffs and have a better career in that stadium. The Mets have 2 options. They either rebuild and go cheap w these rookies (Baty, Vientos, Mauricio, Acuna, Alveraz, Jett, etc etc.) OR Cohen spends and drops like 200 million this off-season. Reminder The Mets are gonna need a ton of help, he's gotta sign Minimum 3 SP, 3 BP, 2 OF, 1B, 3B
Yes I'm a Yankee fan and both series Cleveland lost to us in the ALDS he basically didnt exist and I told all my friends who are Mets fans this when they gave him that ridiculous contract.
Michael is saying EXACTLY how i feel. We didnt need to trade for Lindor unless we were gonna get him on a discount sign and trade.... Shoulda signed realmuto.
I wanna know why Francisco Lindor isn't getting boooood the way Bobby Bonilla did back in the early 90s when he played for the Mets.. The fans and the media abused Bonilla and his contract was 29 million for 5 years...But Bobby Bonilla had a batting average of at least 265 , 270 sometimes 290... Lindor is getting 341 million for 10 years and he's batting 200 but not one single booo from the fans ..
The fans at citifield are mainly some form of spanish... if you haven't noticed. Whether there puerto rican, dominican, ect... Its a double standard, they won't boo one of there own even if he is hitting like crap.
Lindor is way more media-friendly, that's why. His name is "Mr. Smile," he's in every single freaking video that the Mets post, he's like another mascot for the team 😂 Mr. Met Jr.
a) Worst OBP on team = lead off batter b) .184 AVE/.581 OPS in home games = starts every day c) Lowest RISP AVE = highest paid player on team = not winning
Mets have 4th worst record by winning percentage in NL. Good luck with making the playoffs. Lindor was a foolish move and will continue as such. He was not a superstar when signed but a rung below.
Eventually the Mets will become the 4th worst team in the division once the Nationals become legit playoff contenders in a year or 2. They're building a great farm system over in DC and will have payroll flexibility as well. Something the Mets clearly don't have.
Is this a surprise? This team is hot garbage and lindor has sucked since he got here. Clowns will say look at his war or look he hit 30 hr last year! Yes this is true but all his hr come when the Mets are losing 10-3, they are meaningless. His war will be good because he plays great defense but if you hit 3 hr from opening day until July than hit 20 you suck and aren’t helping the team win. I think we need a compete fire sale besides nimmo and Alvarez and Senga. I hate this roster, scrubs rotation. This needs to be rebuilt from the ground up, wish we didn’t fire buck either this new manager is a clown
Also, as an FYI, Lindor came in that spring and went hot... I believe he belted like 7 homers and in a short stretch, prob also lending to cohen saying let me sign this guy. alonso didnt help (however you look at it) because he I recall hi saying a quote like - pay the guy! Seriously...? signed in the spring at that. Corey Seagar avail and a stud... I think ppl thought he may have been injury proned then...
As a Mets fan let's tank it up and get the first pick, trade the people who have to go and bring the young guys up to take their bumps. They have over $100 million coming off the books this off-season. Sit Senga as long as need be. We knew we had zero starting pitching coming in.
Most overrated and overpaid player in baseball. The abaolute worst contract the Mets have ever gave out. No Met fan is saying "we are close to a wild card". We are saying how terrible this team is and how much of a joke ownership and FO are. Everyday we hear from players, Ownership, and coaching how they are a playoff team while they keep losing. Facts are facts and the fact is outside of one good year and spending money badly we are as bad as the Wilpon days. Id argue its even worse bc at least under them when they had a bad year they would have a top draft pick. Now with the luxury tax there pick will drop 10 spots.
I think that Lindor is overcommitted to doing PR for the team and his focus is not on the field. Too many interviews, too many videos. Just let him focus on playing the game and earning his money that way.
Lindor hasn't been even good since he went to New York. He chased the money, when he should have chased the situation. And in spite of what this guy says, he hasn't had good numbers. He's been bad for several years now.
Silver slugger last year? 30 30 30 last year? Top 10 in mvp voting the last 2 years? And now he’s fully turned around his season while the Mets are fully in a playoff race? I hope you’ve changed your opinion lmao
This is hilarious to me as a Cleveland fan. Saying Lindor used be a 30 HR guy in CLE, but reality is he just hit 30+ HR last season. Yeah the .254 avg isn’t great. This yr he’s obviously been terrible all around except the power #’s. I just find it funny b/c one of CLE more beloved players atm is Josh Naylor. Hitting .247 but with career high power #’s. If he was a Met they’d be trying to run him out of town 😂. Here in CLE they want to give naylor a lifetime contract. Since the Lindor trade CLE has had virtually no power up until this yr. Seems to be a bit of an overreaction. Maybe the Mets need to look at their coaching staff. Frankie never had issues performing under Tito. There’s a lot that goes into this shit
Cleveland absolutely is not going to give Naylor a lifetime contract. There's no such thing btw. They are looking to extend him and buy one year of his free agency. A three year contract at most.
Michael is completely wrong about his contract. Aside from this year he has been great and thats coming from a yankee fan. Hes not gonna have one of the worst contracts
@@Tank4Life aside from his average he has been giving the mets 25+ hr and 100+ rbi and gold glove defense for the last two years . Maybe hes not worth 33 million a year probably 20-25 range. Definitely not “the worst contract in all of sports”
i get the overrated argument but to soltify it with “all star games” is laughable, he should’ve been an all star 2/4 years here and the ASG selection is merely a popularity contest
Lindor has played horribly but Turner is not better player and definitely not a better shortstop..Turner is just faster, but when Turner loses that he’ll be an Ellsbury. Turner is always hurt and is not a real bat. Lindor is actually the best overall SS but he’s just not an aircraft carrier. The only SS that is one is Seager but Seager is not really good defensively and is always hurt as well. Lindor plays the best SS and just needs better players around him. Expecting your SS to be an aircraft carrier was never the norm.
@@davidcanni None of the SS that recently got paid are air craft carriers. Especially not Turner. Some of them even got moved from the SS position for better defensive players. Lindor got paid to be a solid offensive player (which he hasn’t been this year) and a great defensive shortstop (which he is). No one should expect him to be Aaron Judge, Juan Soto or Yordan Alvarez. Players like that can’t play shortstop. SS is a defensive first position and the hardest position to play. Shortstops are not expected to be the biggest bats on the team. Lindor just needs better players around him and he will perform like a star. We all know how good he is and we all know he’s not Bryce Harper. The greatest offensive players, like Soto, are not usually good defensively or even great all-around players. That’s why they’re in the outfield or on the corners. Lindor is great at every aspect of the game, but he’s not an aircraft carrier. That’s Pete’s job to do.
