There are a lot of Americans who move to Mexico and cant stand how free it is. Im in some Facebook groups, and there are people who get on and complain about the noise of centro or the music on the malacon. Thats the price you pay to be close to more things or have a view of the water. But I do laugh every time i see someone complaining because some of them think they can call the police and they will do something 😂. Great video as always
@JoseArteagaTravels
@JoseArteagaTravels 7 месяцев назад
Jaja yes I totally agree! That's why I make these videos. To make sure those Americans stay as far away from here as possible. They will be miserable no matter where they go. Just the thought alone of walking is enough to send most of them into an uncontrollable spiral down hill 😅 Thanks for sharing!

So many things led to U.S. cities becoming places where personal transportation became a necessity, unfortunately progress doesn't always move us in the right direction, we went from having local craftsman and small businesses to strip malls and now Amazon where goods are brought right to your door, all of it at the cost of our health and social society, people no longer know their neighbors or how to meet people without an app. One of the many things I love about Mexico is that it is still a social society, people can still have an individual business or provide services and make a good living, they still place faith and family first, they still have neighborhoods, as you mentioned, where you can walk to the places you need to, all things conducive to a better healthier life, this is another reason why I and other people want to live in Mexico.
@JoseArteagaTravels
@JoseArteagaTravels 7 месяцев назад
I totally agree with you about the US. One of the things I love so much about Mexico is that it has everything the US has like Overnight Amazon deliveries, Malls, Strip Malls and so much more, but none of these modern conveniences comes at the cost of getting rid of small businesses, or horrible infrastructure where you always need a car, and most importantly the people have not lost their faith in each other and it is a much more accepting and social society. Mexico is a prime example as to how progress does not have to come at the cost they tell us in the USA. Thanks for sharing!

Every single person considering moving to Merida needs to see all your videos. So many come and want evening to be just like the US. It's not. It's much better. Unlike a lot of youtubers you don't sugar coat it, you keep it real. It's a very different, and I think better life. I'm in the states right now for the first time since moving last June, and i can't wait to get back home ṭo Merida .

Buenas Tardes, Jose y Christin! I’m on vacation in Puerto Juarez (near Cancun) with passport and a 1 year temporary visa. I’m staying in an AirBnB condo on the 6th floor, right on the beach facing the Caribbean Sea. I’m going to Mercado 28 today to buy some food and souvenirs. Everything is going well. The weather is much warmer than I expected for January. The weather is most undesirable from 10am to 6pm. I’ve experienced some “Gringo Pricing” but I was able to negotiate with the seller on the price in most cases. Otherwise, I’ve had no problems and everybody has been courteous and helpful. I’m enjoying my stay in Mexico 🇲🇽 and will travel to locations with cooler temperatures in Mexico next time. I’m from Colorado and it’s snowing there now, lol. Anyways, I love your channel, keep up the good work informing and assisting those who want to visit or live in Mexico … Adios, Amigos.

Jose, the real problem lies not in the walking, but with the hazards inherent in doing so. Before I moved South, one person actually told me that I was crazy to risk moving to Mexico and dying at the hands of some cartel. So, to any of you who may still consider this to be a reason to avoid Mexico, just chill. As can easily be seen in Jose's excellent video, absolutely the single most dangerous threat to one's health and happiness while in Mexico is in negotiating the horrendously uneven, broken-up slabs of concrete rubble that passes for some sidewalks here. If it can possibly be in some need of repair, you'll find it. I love Mexico; just watch your step, and you'll be 100% safe here. (If there aren't that many cars, it can be much smoother sailing just walking in the street... )
@JoseArteagaTravels
@JoseArteagaTravels 7 месяцев назад
That is a Great Point! I actually had someone in the comments section before mention that they had their young daughter with them while walking once and she pointed out how the uneven streets in Mexico were actually a good thing. As she pointed out, in the USA everyone is looking down at their phone or worse and not paying attention simply because they are expecting the pavement to always be even and flat. But in Mexico since we all know the dangers of those sidewalks, everyone is forced to pay attention and always look at their surroundings or pay the price by tripping and falling on their faces. Sometimes kids have the best perspectives simply by telling the truth and she nailed it. Ever since then I have looked at those streets completely different and in a way appreciate them for what they are. Who knew something so simple as uneven sidewalks could force you to enjoy your surroundings even more? Thanks for sharing!

I absolutely LOVE this video. As a Canadian, we can always tell if you are an American visiting in Canada, especially by the way they talk to people. Don't get me wrong, we have crappy people here as well but for the most part, we treat people with more respect. I have gone on vacation to other counties and seen the way a lot of Americans speak to people, is just rude. Example; I was with friends in an all inclusive and tipped the server each time they brought me a drink, the people next to me asked why we did this when everything was free. I just said I know they appreciate it as they get paid a minimum wage and a little goes a long way. I asked them where they were from and named the state and were quite proud to say they were American. I have also noticed when I have gone to America that they always ask where I'm from and say how nice we are. I have also had American immigrants, ask where I'm from and found to get greater service knowing I'm from Canada. We just treat other people with respect regardless of their class, cab driver, waitress/waiters, hotel staff, cleaners and so forth. This is in no why bashing Americans as there are so very nice ones, but they are usually ones that have traveled extensively and are courteous and respectful of other cultures. Please and thank go a long way. Well, thanks for letting post my perspective on this and I LOVE this content in this video. Cheers

Very well said! You aren't wrong 😅 Many Americans I know will also be proud of said behavior. It's most likely just the culture of some areas of the USA. Oh yes, in the US we used to be the the only ones with the Mexicans who would walk. Its similar here in the UK, often you only see them walking when they have to walk their dog. That is a good info Jose. So you started similar there like when we arrived here in the UK. We lived here for a good while without a car and shopping was definitely not easy. Indeed, patience is needed there but its not a bad thing. Yes, some parts of Mexico is dangerous but its similar to the US, you wouldn't go to certain parts of a city. Its definitely modern there but we have to see more of Mexico and Latin America. Good info Jose.

Wow thats awesome! Come to think of it I remembered when I first moved to Seattle WA I also didnt have a car right away and had to rely solely on walking and taking the bus. Uber didn't exist yet. At least they had a pretty awesome public transportation situation there. It was rough at first but all that did was make me appreciate it even more. I still remember taking the bus home from Trader Joes with my bags full of goodies I had never seen before and enjoying the view from the bus on the way home. Thank you so much for sharing you similar experiences in the UK

In Mexico City, walkability depends on the neighborhood. Where I live in Condesa and Roma Norte it is very friendly to walking and Ecobici. But the Santa Fe area of Mexico City positively militates against walking around. You need a car to go to the Oxxo. If you have to commute in Mexico City it can be bad quality of life. Mx City is paradise for digital nomads.
@JoseArteagaTravels
@JoseArteagaTravels 7 месяцев назад
I agree even here in Merida there are areas such as the North of the city where you need to have a car to also get around. But as you already know those areas are more of the outliers than anything else. Most of Mexico is very walkable. Thanks for sharing!

Hola! Yes I have in the Past. But my phone is a cheap Mexican phone and it doesn't really have good video quality or battery life so It's not the best set up for that. Also it makes it extremely difficult to interact much with the audience. If i were sitting in the park it is a bit more doable. But walking around with this sun and heat make it very very difficult and also due to battery life it is also a short stream. Perhaps in the future if I get a better phone or a better set up I could attempt it again. My Gopro can also livestream but it is even more limited. The reality is that in order for me to do this the right way I need to invest in better equipment and right now I'm just trying to pay the bills. Hope that makes sense. Thanks again for the suggestion!

I actually love that freedom to do what you want . You cant act like a fool like they do in the upper US expecting police to come wait on you if you clown. Excellent comments about being forced to live in a certain way... Deed restricted everywhere, regulations everywhere, all must be perfect and efficient... we have gone from the wild west to a such regulated life that you can not be out of the jar anymore. Looking forward to retire, sell my deed restricted home and start from scratch somewhere else where I have rights and obligations but at least I am entitled to do with my property whatever I want. It is ridiculous when someone receives a letter offering to put you the Chirstmast light and the f*** can at the door becouse you stand out in the entire neighborhood. I am tired of such a regulated country.

I'm always talking about how much more Freedom we have out here in Mexico and its exactly what you were just describing there. It is astonishing to me how the US has turned into an over regulated heckhole, but even more astonishing how many people want it that way. This is why so many Americans who come out here Hate it, because they can not impose anything out here. To each their own. I prefer the Freedom we have here in Mexico over the "Freedom" we have in the USA. Out here in Mexico it is a live and let live attitude that just doesn't exist in todays America anymore. Thanks again for sharing! Good luck with your move down south!

I’m from Canada & walked a LOT all year round, so Mexico is a breeze for me & my beautiful 3 story walk up apt. is easy! But I do notice for Americans walking & stairs seem hard for them! I don’t get it?
@JoseArteagaTravels
@JoseArteagaTravels 7 месяцев назад
That is awesome! Same for me with the walking. I always walked a lot and most of my career as a cook I was always on my feet so continuing to do so out here is more natural to me as well. As for most Americans who have trouble walking around everyday it is simply because most of them driver everywhere and then spend an hour looking for the closest parking spot to the entrance to avoid any extra steps. Even when I drive I always park as far away as I can, not just to get those extra steps in, but also for an easier time leaving once I am done. It has more to do with the "car" Culture in America than anything else. I know there are tons more reasons but I'll just leave it at that. Thanks for sharing!

Jose', I know you're from Miami, but you apparently aren't aware of the southeastern U.S. The problems with stray animals is very much a thing in Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee....etc. Damn, and those people don’t WALK anywhere, even with the nice weather. You'll literally see more people walking around during a Michigan blizzard, than you will on a nice sunny day in Alabama. Go figure? Southern cities are not designed for bicycle riders. Frankly, the whole U.S. culture annoys me. I will learn Spanish if it's the last thing I do.

We got stray animals in Florida and in Miami as well. But there are places like animal control too. That doesn't really exist out here. Also people out here in the city tend to have their animals roaming free, you only see that in more rural areas in the USA. But you are right I have seen Most of the USA but not all of it. Not everyone is looking for a better life in Mexico. There are plenty of places in the US where people are just fine and dandy right where they are. Thanks for sharing

I've also noticed that the stray animals in mexico are friendlier and don't bother you 😂 here in the states the strays are aggressive.

Can you make a list of the safest areas. Affordable areas. Are there jobs that pay American money there?

Too bad America disgusting car culture is spreading, with its parking lot wastelands, drive trues, mediocre pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, mediocre mass transit, single family zoning and suburban mediocrity all around.
