Hi prakash. Another small doubt... Why does the engine does not brake(engine braking) in astor?? It seems quite difficult to brake at higher speeds as the whole braking is done only by the brakes of the car but not by the engine.... And another doubt is that when we hit the gas pedal we know that the engine sounds but when i lift off my leg from the gas pedal, the sound from the engine shut downs as if completely and the car goes without engine braking(in regular cars, when we lift off the leg from the gas pedal, we get a deceleration sound but it is not there in the case of astor...) Have you experienced this in the case of your astor?? Mine is same engine as yours.... Please help me to know whether this is a common issue or only my car has this problem🙏🙏

Great and informative video as usual by you Prakash🙌. We recently had a round trip to Mumbai. We started off from Surat to Mumbai. Our model is Sharp(O)/Saavy 1.3L Turbo. We got a Highway mileage of 16.5kmpl and city mileage of 12.5kmpl from Surat to Mumbai. AC was on fan speed 4 and Temp was 22°C. While we were returning, we got a city mileage of 12kmpl and highway mileage of 16kmpl. In city, Temp was Lo° and fan speed was between 6-8. On highway AC was on Lo° and fan speed was of 4. On highway speed was between 100 to 120kmph. We are due for our third servicing. Let's see if mileage improves any further.

Thanks for this details information! I believe u are getting a decent mileage! And i am 100% sure that there will be mileage improvement after 3rd service where engine oil will be changed!! A skilled driver like you will be able to fetch more mileage from this car after the run in period completes! I am so happy to see your positive comment! It's like a booster dose to me! 🤭😄🙂🤗

I also want to point out that Astor in their next facelift shall have a mild hybrid like Ciaz or a hybrid system like that of Honda City for the mileage improvement. It needs one to become the most relevant petrol option in this segment. It's still the most VFM car in the segment 👌.

Further things to try though benefit is only on highway driving. How much I have not measured, You can eliminate spare tyre if you are using a reliable tyre pressure monitoring system. Instead of spare tyre you have a puncture repair kit. But drawback is the space of the tyre is not filled. 2. Use low rolling resistance tyres like Falken Ziex Ecorun.

For short journey the spare can be eliminated but for long i would never be able to do it! Low resistance tyre would definitely be great provided they give great grip as well

@@prakashparadisee The tyre pressure monitoring system would tell you which tyres is losing air. Most of the new tubeless tyres lose air slowly. And the puncture repair kit has a fluid which will seal it temporarily. At the next repair station you can repair the tyre. It's legally allowed in India and EcoSport SE used it to elimate spare wheel. Please check the puncture repair kit used by EcoSport.

Hello Prakash, I am thinking of buying the Sharp model. Just a quick question, does mileage has any relation with the model type (CVT and 1.3 Turbo) ? Do you feel turbo model provides better mileage?

From what i have heard from people i would say these two cars give almost similar mileage! The turbo mileage is marginally better than CVT if you don't have budget problem go for the turbo as there is no compromise in terms of power and acceleration! Also if we look at the mileage too much we won't be able to enjoy the driving experience of MG ASTOR

Hello Prakash Very useful and timely video. I have been following most of the techniques you suggested since 1993 and getting good mileage but in case of Astor it’s not coming as many have reported. In the beginning I got a mileage of 15 on highway but it has somehow come down to 10 or 11 max now. Could there be any technical issue?

i think we need to focus on tank to tank mileage check rather than whats shown on the display!! It cant get so low just like that!! Earlier your mileage was good!! and happy again to know that you are finding the video useful and worthy your time!!

Prakash I think my issue is resolved now. I tried to go light on accelerator as this is my first automatic and got an average of 14 on a mix drive of 300 km with traffic and highway. I have been driving since 1983 and thought I am expert but I was wrong. Thanks dear:

In your previous videos I remember seeing of adjusting the cruse control ie if 85 comes to 60 you should reduce the cruise 65 and gradually increase. This also helps. 1.5 CVT SHARP PETROL 15-16km/h on highways city is 10-11 km/h

Hello Prakash, firstly I really appreciate the effort you are putting into making these very informative and helpful videos. I watched all of your videos and atleast 5 to 6 times for some of ur videos. I have a doubt and I thought u could help me. My astor is the same variant as urs i.e. savvy 220turbo. It’s been 15 days simce i got it and i am really worried about the mileage. I have driven around 500 kms so far including on highways. The avg i got so far is only 7 kmpl. Is this normal? Will it improve over time? Something I need to worry about? Pls advise.

Mileage is just a number and it's not predictable, you can plan out the mileage. It gets improved as per your driving.

In city driving, it's best to disengage the "auto hold" and use the neutral gear at signals

I wanted to talk about putting the car at neutral when there is traffic but it's kind of unclear to me as new car models completely disengage itself when the brake is applied for more than 3 seconds! I do put my other car in neutral position as soon as I reach a red light! It's because i am confident that my Amaze don't disengage itself

my vehicle is Astor CVT Sharp O. I've driven more than 7500 km and the mileage is pathetic in the city. When I drive in bumper to bumper traffic the average (tank to tank) goes down to 7 or 8. When I travel in normal traffic, it gives around 9. In the city it never ever crossed 10 for me. I do follow most of the driving tips that you mentioned and on time service is provided. Any suggestions?

There will be an improvement in mileage when the engine oil will be changed! All You can do is to drive little more calmly than you used to drive! The city to city traffic factor does matter a lot! Also the mileage should only be checked for 100kms driving and not 10-12-20.

I own Astor CVT sharp..... To summarise the mileage it's 15 to 16 on highways without AC.....with AC maximum I could get 13 and 11 to 12.5 on average(avg speed of 50 to 60kmph) In city without AC 10 to 11.5 and 7.5 to 9 with AC on . My AC temp 25 degrees avg. CVT feels gud when u drive alone without AC but with 4 passengers and luggage and AC on...the engines struggles to gain initial speed after 40kmph it starts behaving normally. Honestly with AC on car feels bit underpowered but the smoothness n ride quality is just amazing. I did test both creta and seltos before Astor but those are just avg suspension doesn't feel premium in ride quality. Personally I am willing to sacrifice a bit of mileage for ride quality n for that Astor is best. People buy luxury cars giving a lot more money just for the ride quality and not for mileage.

Yes ! You are absolutely correct on this. The CVT is not meant for fast driving it's only meant for relax drivers and those who are seeking good mileage while driving. The CVT even in Honda city is similar. If you are cruising nicely the engine is perfect but the moment you decide to press the accelerator and overtake with an aggression sorry to say you won't get that. If you plan to drive easy then only go for CVT else CVT will disappoint you

Hi prakash... Recently bought an mg astor savvy 220turbo... Everything is fine.... But one day when i was driving the car, i heard a noise which was similar to smashing a steel glass on a steel plate from the front part of the vehicle (probably between the axle and the engine)... After 2 to 3 times of that sound coming, the wheel made sound as if it was punctured or u can say like the alloy was smashing the road... And the wheel noise was increasing as thr wheel speed was increasing and vice versa... After we stopped for sometime it stopped... Again started... The next day when we took it to the service centre, he checked everything and everything was fine... And i didn't get that sound again(he tested on high speeds and offroad and no sound came)... We are planning for a long trip.... Should we go for it coz i'm scared... We took the delivery a few days back...please help

Hello! This noise feels very strange! I guess something got stuck and then it got out! Since the SC guys already checked so you need not worry! I own Sharp Manual. I drove 520km stretch on highway including Mumbai Pune expressway. The mileage I got is just 11.5kmpl. I tried crusing at 71-72 but nothing helped. In city I get only 8-9. Ridiculous 🙄 I tried everything possible to get better mileage but no luck!

Hello Sir , I got delivered Astor Smart CVT on 3rd November 2023 . All is good except it’s mileage . I am getting very poor mileage in Mumbai city 5 to 6 only . So my question is that “Maine yeh car lekar koi galti toh nahi ki ,?? 1.5 CVT give sufficient power to climb hills with full capacity. I have driven that's why i told you. We have 1.5 cvt in our home. One of the best and refined engines we have seen. Very smooth. Mileage you'll get around 12-13 in city which is good i guess.

I am glad that @hitesh has answered your query so nicely! CVT is a good engine for a relaxed driver! The only thing you need to keep in mind is that - CVT won't be punchy engine! It will be like a calm engine which can do all your job quite efficiently! Turbo gives that kick! Which can make you feel wow!

I think automatic climate control and fan speed of AC is another factor factor why people aren't getting mileage more than 11 in Astor. Now I keep my AC on 28 degrees(still cool) and fan speed on 2 or 3. And in Delhi I get the mileage of 12 in traffic(moderate traffic) and upto 13-14 on holidays.

Keep AC in manual mode with lower fan speed 2 or 3. Mileage will improve a lot.

Hello prakash, have you also noticed in astor when i am driving cvt by own, its rpm at 80 kmph is around 1.5, but when i start the adaptive cruise at 80,the rpm gone around 2, if its there in yours also.. can you please verify or you can make video also if its looks like an issue

I own Astor CVT , the real mileage in city 9 - 11 KMPL , on highway 13-15 KMPL . And after 10K km running (thrid service) the mileage will increase by 1-2 KMPL. Totally satisfied with the power , space , comfort , safety and mileage.

Bhai ek baat btao, turn of ignition se gaadi ka Android auto ya blutooth to disconnect nahi hota na, I had Verna usme jab bhi ignition band karta tha and then phir se ignition on karta tha to gaadi disconnect hojaati thi, isme essa to nhi hai na. Now have been waiting for my astor now for 6 months can't wait more. 🙈

@@prakashparadisee i have heard from many youtubers that Astor boot space is large in size but not practical. Creta, seltos & taigun can store more bags than astor. So please make a video bcoz u r a owner of astor so can tell in more efficiently.

Mere jankari ye hain k Astor ka demand or popularity Kam ho raha hai aur iska main reason hain poor milage aur v kuch chota mota problem hai but main baat milege hain aur ADAS ka use v Indian traffic me thik se ho nahi pa raha , aur road presence v creta , seltos jaisa hai nahi ,so abhi mujhe lag raha hai certa ya seltos Bina ADAS ke v age hain

Bhai i completely agree with you! But to add on to your comment i would like to say - ADAS is a feature which is highly ignored by people! I have personally felt the good use of emergency braking system! Creta ka DCT is very advanced and it's makes a good mileage figure overall but DCT has its own complications! We will see that in long run! Also Astor ne jo base models ko poora ignore Kiya that was something which out them down! Aisa na karte to gaadi aur jyada popular hoti! Abhi negative way mein naam kama Rahi hai due to those issues!

If mileage is your priority! Astor won't be able to serve you the best I would recommend you to go for 1 liter or 1.2 liter engine

I am following all your videos on Astor. Also following almost all videos related to Astor. But on all the videos one thing I noticed was milage issue which they are facing. Every individuals are quoting different milage figures. Starting form 7kmpl to 22kmpl in both city and highway condition. After house, car is the big budget thing for purchase right. No no not at all! Your comments means a lot to me You are discussing because it's an important decisions for a long period of your life! So that's the reason i am trying to help out! I am getting no financial/popularity benefit from this! Mileage is something that completely depends on the person who is driving the car. If the car is given sudden acceleration and sudden braking , it will ruin the mileage figures! I have achieved mileage of 18 also on highways and 12 also on highway! When i got 12 i was driving rashly ! For the MT i would say expect 11-13 in city And 16-18 on highways There maybe up and down but overall this will be the figure! Also i would request you to not for the EX varient! I personally don't think it's right decision for any car owner as it lacks safety features

Will miss out best ESC functions like Hill Assist, Hill decent and traction control features. Though it is time taking I will go for old syle variant only. Thank for your time and advice/suggestions. Also if possible please make a video on installing the rear camera for base variant.

Bro nothing helps much! Just returned from Goa. Had travelled from Mumbai and the mileage was 9 and maximum was 9.5. Drove without AC, manual mode, not pushing too hard keeping the speed at 70-75 and it gave maximum of 10 mileage for an hour because you really can't cover the journey at that speed and AC off. But the comfort, suspension, build was top notch. Also tried every ADAS feature on the journey.

But bro! You know some of my friends are getting a decent mileage! I also feel that people buying CVT are expecting performance. However CVT is for relaxed drivers who doesn't like to revv or overtake too much! Just glide ! And instead of gliding they are driving with aggression! I too drove a CVT! What my personal experience says - drive it easy and you will get good mileage! The moment you do too much of overtaking - bye bye mileage! PS - i am not an expert but learning from my experiences

I feel it's not correct milage that is shown in instrument cluster, we should do a tank to tank fuel test, then we come to know the real milage. Praksh can you please make a video on tank to tank mileage test.

I completely agree to you bro! Actually there are people who have peculiar way of driving which ultimately results in bad mileage that what our car can actually give! So i made a video upon this mileage issue! I am too satisfied with the performance of my car! 1.3 turbo is 1.9 as an engine (let's just say 2.0liter engine ) so I am very satisfied with overall experience!

Just a random question to astor owners. Do rear doors have separate sensor to indicate if they're open or not? Currently for me even if any single rear door is open its shows in MID that both doors are open. Is it same for all astor?

@@prakashparadisee yeah so if were getting 15 km/litre mileage u will get only 13 now + the hp also decreases by 2 or 3 + even if 1 drop of rain water gets in the ethanol and petrol can seperate and car will stop working as ethanol will sink to bottom and car engine will not start... so if u do milage check after refueling at shell pump u will notice difference in performance and fuel efficiency as the blending rule doesnt apply to private players like shell and reliance

🤭No bro! Actually lawyers have lot of documents which they need to move from court to home and vice versa! When not required they should be removed! In the same way you will see interior designer also keeping lot of booklets with them to show the clients so if it's not required it should be removed! Architects to have a lot of files with them and keeping to many files which will not come to any use will hamper mileage So in that sense I said it 😀🥹
