Pretty good? MGS4 has as many easter eggs as like 10 or 15 normal games lol It has like 3/5x as many easter eggs as most big open world games. I knew there were alot but seeing this video, god damn.
Tanegashima's "divine wind" is a reference to Japanese history. Short version : the Mongols tried invading twice, and twice got rekt by typhoons. The Japanese basically saw this as God's intervention, and called it "divine wind", or in Japanese, "kamikaze".
@gergoszabo7168 ironically the American precision bombing campaign was screwed over for the longest time because of the slipstream over Japan literally blowing the planes away, a literal divine wind Unfortunately for the Japanese this meant that they had to cave in to the British strategy of low altitude night time firebombing which led to the atomic bombings If you read an American historians recount they'll talk about how this was a tragic throwing away of the morals they tried to practice throughout the war formerly exemplified with high altitude precision bombing If you read a british historians recount they'll talk about how the yanks finally learned to wisen up and use tactically sound, efficient strategies instead of highly impractical wasteful experimental ones being so naive as to think they can "play" war and have the moral highground
Fun fact: In act 4, Shadow Moses was bigger and originally you were supposed to explore ALL areas of the island. This didn't happened because of the limitations of memory. There's 2 unused areas from 2007 version of the game, that was revealed on integral podcast talking some secrets about act 4. The first one is the frozen lake, it's located nearby of the beginning and the route was really different compared to the final product, so instead of you heading west to get in the heliport, originally you had to head north, pass through the lake and then you end up getting in the canyon. The lake has an Gecko patrolling there, you can shoot on the lake to break the ice and make him sink in the lake. This lake has been removed because it should remove the fans expectation from seeing the heliport again and another reason is for nostalgic feeling. The second one is a secret base bellow the nuclear warhead storage building, you had to use the elevator to get in this area, there's not much details about this secret base, in my theory this area should exactly the same map from Metal Gear Ac!d 2 link battle (online) map. This area has been removed just for nostalgic feeling. Back the 2007 version of the game, you could have access to B1 commander's room and you could get 1000 of DP upon get in there (THIS IS STILL IN THE FINAL PRODUCT) and there's a flashback of Psycho Mantis (ALSO STILL IN THE FINAL PRODUCT) he says "I saw you there... you have a large place in her heart. And getting bigger... but I do not know if your futures lie together." This flashback appears when you enter on the corridor, nearby where Snake fought with Psycho Mantis (it's only accessible by hacking and the B1 commander's room has been removed and doesn't have any textures of the area only the elevator collision is still there all that remains is these flashbacks for DP and there's a video on YT showing this). There's 2 unused codec calls conversations of Snake and Otacon talking about the ladies room and the bookcase placed at the same place where the entrance to the cave was (there's a video on YT showing their conversation). 36:13 You can pass through it by hacking but this doesn't lead to anywhere, I believe that tunnel should leads to the snowfield (there's a video of a guy on YT exploring out of bounds in Shadow Moses).
19:30 Not only does Snake imitate Altair's stance, he also bends the ring finger on his left hand, imitating the missing finger to allow for a hidden dagger. Man they no longer make games with such attention to detail
@@eduardoisme1590 Eh I don't think I was. I felt like the cutscenes provided enough context for me to at least understand the basics of everyone's past.
@eduardoisme1590 You have no idea lol. It was pretty much the definition of the meme "I do not know who I am. I don't not know why I am here. All I know is that I must kill."
44:27 So, there's actually another interruption screen that Screaming Mantis can pull off aside from Blackout/HIDEO 2. It's a rare occurrence, but basically during the fight, a voice clip saying "Reset!" will play out causing the game to "fake reset", showing modified logos of Konami (renamed to Kojima) and Kojima Productions (flipped ala XOF with the text "Kojima Protection" written below). The battle shortly resumes after.
@@GeorgeSalonikh get controlled again durning fight, you'll get reset voice and fake title logo. keep you eye on computer on stage before screen changed. blackout and fake title logo will show on computer on stage.
MGS4 boss: *tries to give Snake a lapdance and dies* Drebin: "That was Angry Armadillo, she was forced to eat cement as a child" (shamelessly stolen from twitter)
It's wonderful how Hideo pays special attention to every detail, no matter how small, in his works, so that the player interacts looking for the references and Easter eggs scattered in them. Sometimes bordering on sick. I can't imagine what I would have done by finishing the fifth installment, with the next Metal Gear Solid or with Silent Hills. Hugs
I remember back in 2018 I use to literally watch all your MGS gameplays plus your complications of certain categories. Keep doing what you are doing George. You are one of the 🐐to the MGS community.
@@Polavianusmeh, not that good easter eggs as the previous 4 titles. I do not count is as an og MGS because the story is disappointing as hell, as wel as the mission type style.
The hidden detail of the 1911 pistol, when you look at the grip of the gun you can see where big boss/naked snake filed it down in the cutscene when he got it from EVA.
during the vamp fight, vamp does a special attack if you lie on the ground after he knocks snake down. it gets his knife stuck if you manage to roll out of the way in time, and are free to grab him to administer the syringe.
I remember watching my dad play through MGS4 for the first time back in 2008. I thought the game is amazing which it is. It was fun watching him go through this game while it lasted. The laughs we had and our minds being blown from this game. Wish I could go back and see those memories again.
Thank you so much for making this video! I was afraid the series of interesting things and secrets would end at MGS 3; looking forward to when you do MGS5!
I cant think of any other video game that has this many easter eggs and secrets. It truely shows how much love the devs had for this series. When I was growing up I had the official MGS2 and 3 guide books. At the back of each book were DOZENS of pages listing each easter egg. I think it's these little "touches" to the MGS series that elevates it above most other games. ALSO: Excellent editing in this vid.
6:05 When i played this game when I was a young teen, i remember seeing those strings attached to snake at random times throughout the game. Not specifically during a death animation. This creeped me out back then when i noticed, because i thought it was something that only happened during the Mantis boss fight
Over the years, I've systematically gone through the MGS games looking for secrets and posting everything I could find on GameFAQs. I knew most of the stuff here, except for restoring psyche by checking out Meryl in Act 1, the photos of Sunny and Naomi in the kitchen, the names for some of the ghosts, and the Boktai/Lunar Knights references aside from the Solar Gun. Thank your for putting so much effort into this!
The amount of secrets and fun Easter eggs they stuffed into this game is mind boggling. So many of these I didn't even know existed. Great stuff George 👌
11:22 It's possible that one of the "under construction" games was actually Metal Gear Rising The first version of Metal Gear Rising was shown off in I believe 2009 under the title "Metal Gear Solid: Rising" and initially was written (though not directed) by Kojima before he left the game and it used heavy MGS4 assets. It'd have probably begun development towards the ends of MGS4s development most likely. I don't even think Kojima imagined MGS5 would be a thing back in 2008.
In Otocon’s codec about snake taking down a tank by himself, he says he talked to a soldier who swore no single man could take down a tank. Reminded me of a WW2 story where a single cook managed to disable and capture an entire German tank unit using an axe and a tarp. Goes to show the right man in the right place can make all the difference
I just Googled the story and holy fuck it's absolutely nuts! He went on to be a platoon commander and received the Order of Lenin, and yes he did get the Hero of Socialism title. He died really young though at 31
These videos are such a great way to rediscover the MGS series. So much nostalgia. I'd played the absolute hell out of these games growing up but there's always something I never knew about. Thanks for putting these together!
I'm sure you already know this but before you enter the rebel cave in Chapter 1, if you are spotted by the lone guard, he'll cautiously approach you with his weapon pointed at you, do not move and you can offer him food and he'll let you pass. Also if you offer the other rebels food youll gain their trust and make it through the cave without the use of a disguise or stealth.
Btw, idk if you know about this but there’s a secret move Snake can do that the game doesn’t tell you about it (or at least I think the game doesn’t tell you about it), two moves actually. Act 1 for example, right before the B&B Corp cutscene. There’s a small gap, right on top of a militia spawn point. You can roll and spam triangle to not fall and get pass the gap. And talking about spamming triangle, when a PMC or Frog hits you and Snake falls down, right when Snake is falling, spam the triangle and Snake will immediately get up in less than a sec. Kind of a bad english but I tried my best to explain myself. Hope you can read it, maybe try it or comment if you already knew about this.
Whoa!! I appreciate this George… I watch a lot of MGS content but I don’t think I’ve see this for this game tbh… and it’s actually the MGS game I’m least familiar with gameplay-wise… awesome
At around 6:42 during the flashback sequence that happens as snake dies, there's a shot of Jonny with his poopy butt having a diarrhoea episode. What a thing to go through someone's mind as they are dying
When I was younger I love open combat sequences with multiple allies and enemies like a huge war zone with allies and enemies fighting to the death and it's just an endless wave of allies and enemies
As a boy at peak puberty, the fan service was a welcome edition. Too bad people nowadays think they are "distasteful" and games dont do them anymore. It least i get to experience the best years of modern gaming. RIP fan service.
man every 2-5 years i have a great time playing all these games again.. i love stumbling on new lines of dialogue.. or just interesting things or trying new/different ways to mess/kill enemies. after u do a few no alert/no kill or harder difficulty settings/speed runs etc.... its fun to do more casual playthroughs and just mess with everything you can.
@3:59 This sequence triggers a specific ambush squad that has slightly more health than other normal enemies, if you take them out too, the game goes back to throwing normal enemies again till you reach another 100 and then again the ambush squad loops restarts.
George you awesome man! I was hoping you would do 4. The time has arrived. I almost couldn't believe it haha. I'm getting excited for part 5, even though I didn't even like 5. Maybe you can change my mind a little... I'm not even counting it as a real MGS for now...
Bro has me hyped, I have already played MGS1, 2, 3 and 4 but only 1 run of it, I would love to see this go through so if I do a re run, I will be golden. And I will love it as much if not more than the MGS2 video and idk if it is there the MGS3 video
