On this episode of the Miata build we'll be finishing up the Miat Build we’ll be wrapping up the cooling system. We’ll be installing a coolant re-route, lower radiator hose, and clamps. This is a must have mod for any Miata to protect your engine.
The engines that came in the Miata were originally designed for Front Wheel Drive application where the engine sat horizontal. The coolant was meant to go through the back side of the engine to the front.
For the Miata the engine was mounted longitudinally. Mazda decided to have the coolant go into the engine from the front and back out the front
Mazda then replaced the water neck inlet with a heater hose outlet.
This causes cylinder 3 & 4 to receive less cooling than the front cylinders and sometime causes issues due to lack of cooling.
A coolant re-route essentially returns the coolant flow back to what the engine was originally designed for.
