This video covers everything you need to know about TunerStudio setup to guide you towards your Miata's first start. We show you how to load a basemap in Tunerstudio as well as configuring your IAT, Wideband O2 sensor, coolant sensor, and calibrating your variable throttle position sensor for a 1.8L Miata! I am by no means an expert with tunerstudio or tuning in general, but these are the steps I took to get my Miata running on tunerstudio and the things I've learned on the way! I am running a Megasquirt MSPNP2, but these settings are applicable to most megasquirts running the ms2 board.
I did this on my 1996 Miata that has a 1.8 engine.

I just want you to know that this video and your wideband install video literally made my life so much easier. Everyone likes to turbo the 1.6 Miatas so you can never find any good content on the 1.8's. I appreciate the crap out of this channel!

Cars are cool but what about new DIY pallet bars?

I have a 1993 european 1.6 (DIYPNP, GT2560) when i start the car it revs to about 2krpm for about 3 secs and then just stalls out. I tried adjusting closed loop idle values but then it just reved about 100rms higher. Sensorvalues are setup according to what i have. i can send you the log if you have time

question: for the AFR/EGO algorithm control at first start, I noticed your setting was set to "simple" but my ms3pnp base map (not trubokittys) is set to "no correction." I'm honestly not sure which one is best for initial crank/startup thanks
@HardwayLearning
@HardwayLearning Год назад
It shouldn't really matter, I don't have AFR/EGO correction enabled until my coolant temperature has reached 165F. As long as you are getting enough fuel the car should start and I wouldn't worry about hitting your targets until you get that first start.

@@HardwayLearning Thank you, and one last question. Do you find closed loop EGO control better than open loop? And, from my understanding... all boost tables are open loop tuned with no EGO control correct? The only open loop option with boost is dealing with closed or open loop boost control. No EGO correction in boost I believe.
@HardwayLearning
@HardwayLearning Год назад
If you are running "open loop" there is no fueling corrections being made. I run my car 100% closed loop EGO correction at idle, in vacuum, and in boost. Some people prefer to get their fueling completely dialed in and run "open loop" or no EGO correction for boost to prevent a bad o2 sensor from causing your car to lean out. I would probably recommend doing so, I believe you can set kpa limits within the EGO control so it is only used outside of boost. The only reason I haven't turned off ego "closed loop" fueling in my boost is because I don't 100% trust my fueling in all temperature ranges yet. Open loop = no corrections, only running on your VE fueling tables Close loop = corrections being made based on feedback from your O2 sensor You can run open or closed loop boost control. Typically you run it open loop and set initial values and slowly work your way up to the desired boost level. This can give you the closed loop initial values to start from for various boost levels.

@@HardwayLearning i have the Same wideband as well, 03-0300 and the readings are off by 0.4, whats the probable causes? How i hooked it up: Red=ignition Black= Chasis ground (under the dash where other grounds are connected) and white and brown is connected to the OEM o2 connector ( blue and white wires). 94 model
@HardwayLearning
@HardwayLearning 4 года назад
 @Oscar A Your grounding may not be perfect between the Wideband controller and the Megasquirt, this causes a discrepancy in the voltages they are referencing (which ends up being the AFR discrepancy you see). You could try switching which ground reference the brown wire (Pin 10, of the Wideband controller) connects to on the Megasquirt. The brown wire (Pin 10, of Wideband Controller, Analog Output Negative Signal) can connect to Signal ground input (Pin 22 of the MSPNP2) or Chassis ground (Pin 5 of the MSPNP2) input of the options port and see which one gets you a closer matched AFR in Tunerstudio. (I'm sorry I don't remember which one worked better for me) To get them to match even closer, you may have to use custom linear Wideband settings. What I did was get the car idling steady (perhaps target 1500 rpm), adjust my target AFR to really rich like 11.0 in the idle range. In the "Calibrate AFR Table" menu, select "Custom Linear Wideband". Adjust the 1V AFR number up or down until Tunerstudio and your Wideband controller match. Then set your AFR target to something like 15.5 and adjust your 4.0V AFR number up or down until Tunerstudio and your Wideband controller match.

Squirts does nothing once you are set to full seq
@HardwayLearning
@HardwayLearning 4 года назад
If I recall correctly, it wouldn't let me set it to sequential without first setting it to 1 squirt per cycle and vice versa
