@@4:00 "..Its more that there is this symptomatic issues, In protestant cultures especially, where people engage the Bible only in environments where you encounter little bits of the Bible out of context..for your whole life" I am not understanding what is so funny to Michael Heiser about this particular issue that he laughs & giggled @ this point where Tim Mackie is relating this problem to us. Is not the engagement of the Bible properly within it's proper context perhaps a tremendous soteriological issue? Can not this be the difference between Heaven & Hell? Why then is this problem therefore so funny? Even if one believes the Gospel itself in the context of a setting where scripture is taken out of context & therefore is saved then on what basis were they believing the Gospel itself? If for example I am LURED into believing the gospel itself based on "out-of-context" promises for health wealth wisdom & prosperity where some TV evangelist tells me to believe the message that Christ died for my sins and arose again (and perhaps pray some prayer tacked on) then later discover that the Bible was not telling me that at all then I suppose it begs the question, "How can you believe the truth based on a lie?" What happens then when the Holy Spirit does count that belief as salvation but the person who was saved believing the truth of the Gospel moved to do so with "out-of-context" prosperity promise lies then LATER discovers that the Bible never promised them whatever that alleged benefit of believing that moved them to believe was false & that few if any promises are guaranteed for this life this side of eternity? I mean if someone leads you to believe that if I believe this message of Jesus Christ's incarnation propitiation & resurrection then as a free gift I will become healthy wealthy wise & prosperous and as a side effect have eternal life to boot. Who would not jump on a promise like that only to find out later "It aint necessarily so." Often people in this category become atheists or heretics of one kind or another. Why then is this problem so funny that Heiser would giggle about it?
A teacher who understands they are touching on serious information often use humor to diffuse a conversation where the audience might include those who are hyper-sensitive about their theology. I know that the creator of the universe has a great sense of humor. Look around.
this guy and at the gas station wanted me to look into you guys and I'm looking into you but I'm also thinking about all the conspiracies of religion and I believe in Jesus Christ Godbut I don't believe in religion because it's been made over and over again in time
have you guys looked up Pope Francis snake room I mean it's like a room where it looks like a snake and the statue looks like hell I mean it's pretty crazy
I think I'd rather read this 'prof' than listen to him..., whom talks like the proverbial 'Valley Girl'. Is he asking a question? Or is it just that upward vocal inflection ending his sentences that is annoying to a guy from NY.
