Absolutely! Super underrated !
@elijahruderman
@elijahruderman 4 года назад
@@BratatoChip He ain't top 40 all time. Definitely top 50 ever. He was never a top 5 player in the NBA. He was a good, but not great offensive player because of his lack of efficiency. His career playoff field goal percentage is 47%, which is terrible for a center, and it's worse than Jordan's career playoff FG% of 49%. It is also slightly worse than Chris Paul and Reggie Miller, who are guards. However, he is one of the best defensive players ever, and easily could've won a few DPOY's. He led the league in defensive win shares in '93, '94, and '97, and from '87 to '97, he averaged 6.3 defensive win shares per year, which is better than any NBA player has had in a season since Dwight Howard in 2011. He only made the all defense team 3 times, because only two centers can be chosen, which is unfair because Ewing was a top 5 defender every year from ' 89 to '97. Also, he (only) had 10 all star level seasons, from '87 - '97, which is a lot, but not that much when you compare it to other all time greats. Also, he was terrible in the '94 finals, and Hakeem was 3 times as good as him in those finals. He was never an MVP candidate, unlike a lot of guys you would put below on an all time list. His peak was basically what Joel Embiid is now, except if he was healthy, and a little bit more efficient, because Joel Embiid shoots around 40% when he's guarded by Marc Gasol level defenders.

he does have great touch with his jumper and turn around fade away jumpshot, but another big man with just a a little bit better jumpshot, hakeem the dream, i love the 94-95 season when hakeem vs ewing , that was a battle of the big men. can't see them now a day, now every big man want to shoot 3 and want no part of playing in the post.

I was a knicks fan in the 1990s. Patrick Ewing had very lottle talent around him. He didn't get get real good talent around him until 1999 when he really could not play anymore. He had Mark Jackson for a few years, but Pat Riley inexpelicably traded him. It was a terrible trade. It killed the knicks offense for the decade. Patrick is not Michael, but he did great work with lousy talent around him. John Starks did his best, but he is not really good enough to be a #2 on championship team. Knicks front office could havd signed Reggie Miller, but went with Allan Houston to save money. Houston is a nice player. Miller was an HoF.

Kids today want participation medals for finishing last and being told it’s ok to lose just to protect their feelings. It’s pathetic and exactly why millennials idolize Lebron. He’s an underachieving loser that has taken the easiest path of least resistance and STILL has only been able to win 33% of the time. The debate is OVER. It was never a debate to start with. You can not compare whining, crying, flopping, excuse making, apologizing, passive aggressive, drama queen to the most Cold Blooded Athlete in the history of pro sports. Maybe some do not know, but he was head of NBPA in the 90s and he fought for the players, he is the main reason why NBA players get paid this high today, most players who signed at the end of the 80's had shitty, Long-term contracts, and Patrick is the reason why, when they re-signed those contracts, they started making 10s of Millions a year instead of 10's of millions per 7/8 years, and I think he was the highest paid player for a couple of years till MJ came back. Patrick Ewing is so positive through it all . Definitely a good man. I enjoyed those days watching the Knicks. You can say what you want to say but that man could ball. I'm not even a Knicks fan but I followed them just to see Patrick play. the knicks just needed that one extra player and they would have won at least 2 championships. Remember as great as Michael Jordan was he didn't win a championship until scottie pippin came . Scottie is the only player in all six of the bulls championships with jordan. Patrick is on my short list of my all time greatest basketball players of all time. He always gave 1000 percent sweat and blood he gave his all. He will never be forgotten for his contribution to the NBA PATRICK was One of the best That's why I respect his legacy 💯 percent. Straight baller.

This is a guy who had a good face up game and jumper in an era where big men were not shooting the ball from the perimeter. The knicks still have not truly recovered after Ewing's career ended. I have massive respect for Patrick and I believe he always put 100% effort on the court. He's also a very charming and likable person. During his heyday, I was quite a sports fan and watched him play many times on T.V. Truth be told however if he had the ball and needed to make a shot for the win, let's just say he wouldn't have been my top pick. I do wish him well in his personal life and as the new coach for Georgetown University. Not everybody can be a super-star like Bird, Jordan, or Magic as well as many other greats. Cheers

I defy anyone to watch the players in the 90s and compare them to today. No doubt there were many more marquee players then who played defense, posted-up, and the game was more physical. Watching the NBA today is like watching a pick-up game in your local park. Lame af!
