Everyone wanted to be Owen when I was growing up. Michael Owen was a finisher in its natural form . Left and right foot and was incredibly fast and even though he wasn’t the tallest. He had a good leap and would get a lot of headed goals. If Owen was in front of goal 10/10 he’s putting the ball in the net. Can never usually that with any striker but with Owen you could. Ice cold in front of goal. He doesn’t get the respect he deserves I think tbh. It’s a shame.
Owen before his injuries was a machine. SO damn fast and surprisingly good with his head as well. Could out jump defenders far taller than he was. Fowler, and Owen after him, kept Liverpool competitive for 10+ years during the 90s and into the early 00s ... We were lucky to have them both.
Owen and Ronaldo (R9) are the two biggest “What if”s?” that I can think of. Their careers playing with one leg are better than 99.9% of footballers. Imagine if they had injury records like Messi or Cristiano? They would have blown everyone away
It’s a joke how little 20 somethings understand how good he was when he burst on the scene but in what high regard Rooney is held in by comparison.Owen before injuries had everyone asking just how good could this kid actually be?Are there any limits? After the 98 World Cup he had backlines terrified to pass the ball when he pressed them he closed down that quick.People rave about mbappe but there was similar excitement about young Owen
I m not quite sure, but he starts his career brilliant the firs two or three years. However, some time after WC 98, he started to suffer with injuries and he suffered a very serious injury that kept him aside the court for many months. When he returned played well and keep scoring goals but not in an outstanding way that he used to play before his injury, when the best teams of Italy and Spain wanted to sign him. In 2004 , surprisingly, Florentino Pérez signed him due to a nostalgic memory of his prior performances and for marketing reasons
He mistake is leaving Liverpool. If he not leaving. Torres/Owen/Xavi/Gerrard maybe they will win Premier League. Great Striker but injuries. So sad. Same situation like Sturridge.
I lost all respect for him when it came too his gambling problem, all the money he made as an brilliant footballer, he's an complete disgrace and messed him self up.
Rocky G So? He hurt only himself doing this. He didnt cheat his wife or made offensive comments on or of the pitch about other players/clubs, didnt hurt anyone on the pitch, only 1 red card during entire career. Humble man, there is few like him.
